Isn't the biggest issue that they're not doing any multithreading? There's a lot that can be deferred to other cores in this game that isn't.

It really shows how unnecessarily complicated some of these workflows are when the end result can be something relatively simple and yet it will have taken you many hours to do. I can also imagine various ways these workflows could be sped up by using VR, although even without VR, it should be able to be made easier. The software development tools are not as good as they could be.

Rift can do pretty much everything the Vive can if you have the proper set up. The only thing the Vive has over the Rift is pretty much native support for games like FO4VR and a brighter screen. Screen door effect is better on the Rift, and the Rift has much better controllers.

If you ever want to play VR games while seated, the joysticks are just as necessary and an improvement as they are for consoles.

I despise of the Vive for holding back controls in VR.

Just to be clear with you, even if this is happening in VRChat, it is a VRChat problem, and is not a limitation of the Rift. The Rift tracking is just as capable, if not moreso, than the Vive, it's just the Vive works in a larger area.

Any shortfallings are the result of your failure or VRChat's failure. Or a SteamVR failure. Make sure you have SteamVR configured correctly.

Your problem with picking stuff off the floor, IF it's limited to VRChat only (as in your regular Oculus hands and hands in other games can still go to the floor), then it's a problem with VRChat's height calibration. In VRChat, adjust your height so that it is around 6 cm shorter than your real height, and you should be good.

backfaced culling is pretty much the rendering method, what you're experiencing is flipped normals.
In blender you need to select the whole mesh in edit mode.
ctrl f > flip normals

You can also see this effect in unity by hitting n
scrolling down to a checkbox titled backface culling and ticking it.
If you turn it on before you flip normals and your normals look fine, that just means unity is importing them backwards, so you want them to look fucked in blender ;)

Recalculating normals will flip the face one way or another. As you can see in pic related all of the darker shades are where the faces are pointing inward. Recalculating the normals on this mesh will make the faces flip the wrong way, and everywhere where there's a darker shade will turn invisible to viewers. Right, but that's not the issue. The actual issue is that there are multiple places where the mesh caves in/caves out, polys are really jagged, overlapping one another, or outright not connected to each other. If the mesh was a blocky huey I'd use it so long as the faces aren't fucked.

I might be the hundreth person to ask this, but there isn't anything in the troubleshooting section of the wiki.

Has anyone had any experience with the bent-arms issue for avatars in VRChat using the Vive? I've done some googling but they never confirm a fix, I've tried toggling sitting/standing mode and that fixes knees, but not arms. And the player height is set correctly for all I know.
Is it just a matter of recalibrating SteamVR or is it something within the game? I want to say it's within the game due to everything else working perfectly in VR, it's just bent arms in VRC.

check this fbx file, you can even directly port it to unity if you want.

I deleted the extra meshes, I removed doubles which merged vertices that weren't connected, and I duplicated the mesh that was inside and flipped the normals on it.
your poly count increased because of it but it should be fine, only 10k or so.

fair warning though, calculating normals higher than 80 will probably cause your mesh to become transparent because of the duped mesh that's got flipped normals.

True. The biggest pain in the ass in dealing with the FO4 armor was reducing poly count and skinning. Since it's actually armor plates placed on top of a frame, there were a lot of polys that weren't even visible, they were just a waste. Trying to delete as much of the frame as possible while still keeping the visible parts around the joints was horrible. FO3/FNV suits probably don't have a lot of "wasted" polys.

If you're anything like me, you'll fuck around for a few days and make no progress, but eventually something will click and you'll be able to crank out an avatar in like 2 hours.
You don't need rigify, just drop a human armature in there, position the bones, delete the ones that VRChat doesn't need, then automatically weigh it to your model (AFTER removing doubles, and if you separate by part before doing the weigh then join all the meshes back together when it's done, you generally get a more accurate auto-weight)
