I'm new to blender and stuff, so tell me how bad this procedure is. Every time I try the automatic texture atlas, details on the face just gets glitched. Here's a solution I did instead:

>Separate by materials
>Then I shift click on all the materials except the face and then press ctrl+J to merge them
>Then run the merged meshes through the texture atlas
>Then I do the same for the face, except for two materials for the eyes that I want to have different shaders on
>Then I merge the materials back into one, and I went from 13 materials and down to 4

Is this a fine way to do it? It seems faster and less painful than doing it manually at least, and the model looks fine in blender.

My manual atlasing process, that I improvised as I did it the first time a couple days ago, is along the lines of:
>Start by using photoshop or alternative of choice to tile as many of the texture files into a single canvas as can fit into 2049x2049 without resizing (repeat with leftovers into smallest required power of two)
>In Blender go to cats, click merge duplicate materials and ignore extra textures if you didn't yet.
>Create new material for each of the atlases, apply the correct texture and enable shadeless. Also turn the material's diffuse up to full white so it doesn't darken or desaturize. Enable double-sided, transparency etc. if necessary.
>Edit mode, pick one of the existing materials, click on select vertices button
>Click the appropriate atlas material, click assign
>Change view to, or open second panel with the UV editor. Change the picture shown to the correct atlas.
>It should show only the UV points of what you just assigned, stretched across the entire atlas. Press A to select them all.
>Resize and move into place.
>Unselect everything in both UVs and 3D view, delete the now empty material, and repeat from step 4 until done.

The only time where stuff doesn't "just work" that I've come across over the couple models I've done like this, was when there's a texture that isn't a square. In that case you need to resize X and Y separately, because when assigning it stretches the UVs to match the new resolution and disregards aspect ratio.

Never watched any guides on how people recommend doing this, but I can't imagine their methods are much different from what I came up with.

How do I make separate UV maps for different parts? Tupper's guide is just for the entire model, but it's not working out for me, so I'm just gonna lump the stuff that has the same properties together on one map, so it'll reduce my material count still.

People will tell you vive because “muh room scale tracking”, but actually, I suggest rift simply because the controllers are way better especially for Vrchat. Get a 3rd or even 4th sensor for the same room scale tracking as a vive, better controllers, lighter design, and still cheaper than the vive package. Vive knuckles controllers are no where in sight.

By trackers do you mean objects that you strap to your feet that can be tracked? No, right now that is exclusive to vive and only available in North America. Alternatively, people are having success getting full body tracking on rift with a Kinect.

As far as a wireless non-tethered option goes, there is one available for vive and one in the works for rift. I forget the name. Apparently it’s “ok” with some artifacting. Tested did a video on it. Personally I don’t think it’s worth it unless you have a REALLY big space. Most people in vr will use about a 1sq meter area, and use thumb sticks to move further distances.

vrchat RPers stealthrg (chipz) and wuzzb (nuts) were getting married after doing about two weeks of “dating” in “a storyline”. chipz (the character) is a beta who's stalked by the yandere/nymphomaniac nuts (the character) in their "RP", but he loves her very much. the thing is that the both of them (the RPers) get really into it and basically play as themselves. most of their content consists of hanging around with friends, nuts acting super lewd and chipz trying to cool her down. chipz is (in the RP) always super jealous of nuts doing anything with anyone else, which most of the time is something lewd. he usually ends up sulking (in the RP), but has also cried IRL when the feelings push through. from the QA sessions they do with the chat after streams it's starting to seem pretty obvious that he likes her IRL, while she seems more indifferent

so then there's streamer called karacorvus. her character monika (yeah, ddlc..) always tries to get in between chipz's and nut's love (she usually tries to insert herself to every story and to kinda steal the spotlight). she's been hanging out with them lately but wasn't able to join the wedding because chipz didn't send her an invite in the game. she was feeling pretty frustrated for spending hours on an avatar and the act she was preparing for the wedding and ended up crying on her own stream.

it's possible that stealthrg didn't want her to ruin / hijack the wedding, like she probably would have done. it's also possible that he’s just so into wuzzb IRL that he didn’t want the wedding that he greatly stressed (he tells he spent hours preparing for it and was shaking at the start of his stream) over to be anything but perfect. hilariously awkward moment ensued on the latest QA session, when stealthrg confronted wuzzb about her telling karacorvus that the wedding wasn’t anything special when she was trying to cheer her up.

also complicating things is that him meeting nuts by chance really kickstarted his twitch career, going from couple of hundred-ish to 4k viewers on average. nuts doesn’t even stream herself, but she’s since been getting donations to upgrade her equipment and she will stream in the future. hell, she’s got 10k followers on twitch without ever streaming herself. stealthrg is good with guitar, but nuts is the one always initiating the funny moments while he’s stuck with his straight man act. most people tune in to watch chipz and nuts, not chipz. so I guess the fear of losing her AND his viewers is also on the back of his mind. it doesn’t help that the chat is always asking if they’re dating IRL and how they feel about each other IRL, which I can imagine is hella awkward for both of them, for different reasons

How does Unity decide the unit scale for colliders for a model, and how do I change it?
For some models a collider with a radius of 1 works fine give or take a little, but then with another I have to add a decimal and anywhere up to four zeroes to all the values.

And yes, the model is in right scale for the game, right next to the other ones that don't have the issue.

The nipples are one texture. They're supposed to have transparency, and blend in with the skin color, but for some reason transparency/fade don't work on this model, so we get that solid, flat circle around the nub. I don't have an occulus but it's my understanding the sensor's position really doesn't matter when it comes to tracking you. It deduces things based on "seeing" the headset and the controllers and working with the other sensor. You can put them wherever you want as long as they can both see you and the ceiling corner mount just happens to work best usually.
