If I have an already rigged mmd model how much can I tweak the mesh before it starts fucking with the weight painting? Like if I wanted to make an ankle smaller to make the calf look bigger would I need to re-paint the weighting for the bones or will it just keep those settings and just apply it to the slightly different new shape?

Find the shape key the glasses are associated with. It's usually called "glasses". Set the shape key value all the way up, you'll see the glasses move/scale from inside your head and onto your face. Create a new "basis" shape key and there ya go.

There are at least four ways you can do that.

The shape key doesn't stay set unless you set it to it's own key. Once you get the glasses situated using a shape key, you have to click the arrow on the shape key box, select new shape key from mix, and then name it Basis, or name it whatever, delete the original Basis, and then name it Basis. I haven't done this so there may be things I'm skipping, save often.

There's also a keyboard shortcut you need to do to propagate the new basis to all shapes; it was mentioned a couple threads ago, not sure what it was.

Literally the fucking stupidest advice ever. The best bang for buck is always going to be buying the last gen hardware when the new gen comes out, when prices will likely be at their lowest. In the Vive's case, the smartest is likely waiting till the Pro comes out, which should coincide with a price drop or at least discounts on the regular Vive. Although if full body tracking isn't needed, then the Rift is much better value.

Besides fucking with height in settings not much you can do unless you got body tracking.

I had a neat idea to make a custom animation for when I crouch very low so my knees bend more and put me lower. I have trouble picking stuff up off the floor on normal models.

did you test in blender to see which shape keys move the eyes, then switch it to the correct ones under the eye tracking tab? Also make sure you do eye tracking last if you do eye tracking when the meshes are separated or you r separate the meshes last it after you did eye tracking it will fuck everything up.
