How do I apply different shaders to different parts of my model? Right now I'm looking to apply a shiny looking shader to some parts but use flat lit toon on the rest of the model. I have the model split into two meshes for shiny and non-shiny but it only applies one shader to the entire model.
In addition, I understand that what I'm doing is not optimization. Have no fear because I do not intend on using this as an avatar in crowded worlds, I'm just trying to learn right now.

Your avatar should never be more than one mesh. Don't split it up.

I'll assume you're using blender, in which case, you can find a list of "materials" that your model is using. Each one of those materials can be assigned a different shader.

When you import your model to Unity, it will create a Materials folder and in there you will be able to find all your materials and will be able to change the shaders on them. Ideally you'll want to have fewer than 5 materials total on your avatar. Watch Tupper's Manual Texture Atlasing video, particularly the part where he show how to combine materials so you can learn how to cut down on the total amount of materials on your model. Please join your meshes before uploading, Anon. You get no benefit from having them split.

What you want is different materials. Each material can have its own shader. You can separate your model in Blender into separate meshes based on which materials you want to use which shader with. Do a manual atlas on each mesh, then join the meshes. You'll end up with one mesh and however many materials (hopefully just two or three) you want to apply shaders to.

Then in Unity you just assign shaders by material.

I never went into VRC with an intention of RPing. I just wanted to run around in a cute anime girl avatar and do/see cute shit.
I was never a mute, I always just acted like myself. However after months of playing the game in desktop and then months in VR, I find myself playing the part.
It's not even RPing either, it's just how I'm acting naturally. I worry about what affects this game will have on my behavior months down the line.

The clue is in how VRChat won its popularity. The program most compatible with streaming on Twitch and Youtube will gain the most cultural relevance and popularity. Hey cutie. Sure. 90% of getting full-body tracking working smoothly is the model itself. If it's too tall, or too short, or the legs/arms don't fully match up with you you're going to have issues. I barely made the model I have work as it is. In fact, I'll let you in on a secret. My viewpoint is actually above the head since I had to reduce the height in order to keep the legs from bending.

I also use OpenVRAdvancedSettings and use the Floor Fix as well as the Playarea tweak so that I can lower the playarea. If I don't do that then no matter what I do in VRChat, my feet will always be several meters above the actual ground ingame.

Finally as for the trackers themselves I either put the two feet trackers on top of my feet or on my shins. It varies from avatar to avatar and if they have high heels or flat feet. As for the hip tracker I tighten it as much as possible around my waist and make sure that the tracker is on the side, not on the front or the back. If it's on the side then it will still track properly even if you lay down and spread your legs for some thick dicks~

Though I really need to buy another trackstrap so that I can use two of them around my waist. Right now I have to wear tight, skinnyfit jeans and it gets so sweaty in them. If I had two trackstraps I can just loop them around my waist and dance in short shorts~

Because giving the internet the ability to publish whatever horrible crap they want out to the public on a private platform isn't really something VRChat wants. There's rules (ToS, Community Guidelines), you gotta follow them, and the only way to make sure worlds that want to be public follow the rules is to check every single one, manually.

There isn't really a way to properly test performance automatically. There's other solutions we're working on, though. Soon (tm)
