There might be the odd mod or two that cause issues, but mostly the pack is "broken" only in its sheer amount locking the game up for minutes at a time at worst when it has to load all them. Even going from one menu to another in edit mode stutters for a couple seconds.

After googling Oculus Rift earthquakes in VRChat, I stumbled onto Tupper's Reddit profile and did some light stalking. He says he plays almost entirely while seated.

I'm in a weird spot, since when I play, I move my desk chair away, but will often end up sitting (or lying) on my bed. This is obviously less comfortable than sitting in a chair, but it gives me a lot more freedom in moving around, since the chair keeps me quite upright and the armrests get in the way.

My question is, does /vrg/ play VRChat seated or standing, and when seated, how much freedom do you have?

If you don't mind taking the Zuckerdick Oculus seems the way to go right now. Better controls and build quality for a cheaper price. Windows headsets are also an option if you want to be a real cheapass, but I don't think they're appealing at ~$300. Might as well spend the extra $100 for a Rift.

I have the Dell headset. It works perfectly even in games like QuiVR and Pavlov where you gave to grab things that are pretty much out-of-view.

I honestly think it's a better product then the Vive.

See above. It's honestly better than anything else we have right now. All it needs is an optional "Clip-on" for the headset and some pods that track the clip in order to give it better room-scale tracking. (Right now moving the monitor or "Center" of your playspace will move the whole playspace in the headset. Meaning scooting your desk scoots the whole VR world.

I'd say WMR is worth it if you can get it close to half the price of a Rift where you live. They're nice, but the tracking is wonky, and they don't get a lot of dedicated support. They're actually higher-resolution than than the Rift and Vive, so if you just want the headset the image quality is there, though they use LCD screens instead of OLED. You should be looking at one of the 110 FOV sets. I know Acer is only 100 FOV. I wish I had considered that before I bought mine.

Basically, you run a setup the first time you plugin your headset.

It has you hold the headset right in front of the monitor, and then you carry the headset in a square shape to make a boundary line for your playspace.

The computer itself serves as a kind of "Marker" for the headset, and the boundry is based off of it. The headset looks at where the monitor is located, and then remembers the boundry you set up from there.

Any movement within the boundary is tracked perfectly.

I should warn you, the cable for the dell headset is pretty short, so I advise you to get an HDMI extension cable and a USB 3.1 extension cable.

Windows-based HMDs use Microsoft's proprietary inside-out tracking. The same tech used by hololens. The headset finds your walls etc using its own cameras and can figure out position in 3d space. It doesn't work in the dark.

Compare to Oculus where it uses external infrared cameras to track IR lights on the headset or Vive using external lighthouses the headset looks for, windows is closer to vive's solution. The downside afaik is the surface-finding trick takes longer to calculate it out than just spotting a lighthouse, so it might have higher latency.
