But you don't have to pay for anything, just look at what's being done and learn from that. How to make the point where the beam is coming from is there, using mesh to actually create a better beam effect is there. There should be a cylinder that you can even flip 90 degrees in your project.
You don't have to buy into the patreon, just look at the video and see what they're doing to get their beam working, then copy it over using your own items that you find online or make.

That's what the animator is for.
You keep the animator file it makes when you create the animations. Then whenever you create a new up-to-date duplicate to animate on, you toss the file on there, and there you go; Now you have access to all the animations and model components for editing them.
