My most offensive model is my main at 4 materials, 3 of them are 1k textures and one is 2k, only 3 are active at once because I toggle between a transparent material on my prop. My model could be 1 material easily but I wanted to maintain transparencies and I didn't want to add a prop as a separate mesh. Otherwise my models are typically 1 material unless I really want transparency. Uses 6 or 7 dynamic bones on the prop which are off by default and toggled with an override. So there appears to be 2 different bugs I'm getting, in regards to the FPS bug. One is where the FPS tanks to 11fps. The other seems to be where ASW is getting borked (or something). Replacing the fbx USUALLY won't cause any problems. Sometimes I've had to go and set the rig back to generic then to humanoid again fixing the bones to get it start functioning normally. I've had it completely go hay-ware though and make all the weight painting get fucked up enough to make me have to restart the project from scratch so I'd def recommend a safety backup if you care

I looked back at this clip and it was stuttering (fps reflecting this) but it felt bad even when it was at '45'. I went to another world and the 45 there was buttery smooth in comparison. I found this really cute hakutaku MMD model, but it's really simple, with two bones and just a flat face texture, so my goal was to learn enough about modelling, Unity and VRChat to be able to:
make the legs move when the character moves,
make it able to slightly stand up,
make the eyebrows able to move to have it able to look even more concerned,
have very, very subtle eye tracking,
add mouth geometry and animate it for the rare occassion it should speak,

With a model like that, you should definitely look into animation overrides, especially for just running around. Alternatively, you could probably rig up some leg bones on each side, and weight paint those stubs to their respective side which would make it run with both sides moving opposite one another (more of a stride than a run).
The slightly standing up could probably be added to a hand gesture's position by tilting the body backwards a bit while making sure the back feet stay on the ground.
The eyebrows you may want to paint over, then move to their own plane so that you can easily move them, then just add that to a shapekey and have that be another hand gesture.
Same thing for the mouth if you want it to speak, but add a mouth beneath it that expands and changes to fit what's being said.
A dynamic tail could be figured out with any of the numerous dynamic bones tutorials (or ask again when you're working on it and I can give a quick guide to it).
Falling over would be decent as an emote; again, look into animation. That one should be simple enough once you understand what's going on in the animation window.

yeah i found outer groups of more like minded and family like people outside the meetup.
