The kinect software has an option to offset the hip tracker before it sends it to steamvr, but you can also do this in openvr input emulation. I assume you can also offset the vive pucks the same way. This moves the tracker inside the virtual space, although you'll have to restart vrchat because you get different results offsetting something while the game is running.

The adapter is the expensive part, not the kinect. Kinects used to come with every xbox one. The PC adapter is expensive because microsoft stopped making them and they're the only thing that make a kinect worth using.

However, the kinect adapter is just a normal usb3.0 cable with a 12 volt rail attached to it and a power brick. You can't splice an extra 12v into a usb cable at home without wrecking the signal, but you can take a normal 12v power brick, strip the wire and solder that directly onto the kinect board. As long as the output is 12v and at least 1.5A it will work, you've probably got an appropriate one lying around the house from an old printer or modem. If you've got a soldering iron it's worth a try, it's about as simple as it gets.

Nametags are typically hidden through two methods. Method 1 is to make your avatar tall as balls so your nametag is a mile high, while leaving your viewpoint only a meter or two above the ground. Method 2 is to surround your nametag with a cube, and apply a shader to that cube which will occlude the nametag. I'm not going to link the shader and someone else can if they want to, but setting your avatar really tall is easy. Even if you're stuck to the god given limit of 5m height your nametag will be far up enough that most people won't notice it and it'll be completely hidden in maps with low ceilings.

Notionally, gesture overrides on the glasses are the same as any other. Duplicate the glasses in Blender to your hand, with a shape key on both pairs that shrinks it to nothing.
Set your base model in Unity to have the shrink shape key at 100 for the pair in your hand, and swap the shape keys in an animation to take them off your face.

So my VR-PC and Vive just came in, and I'm running into problems with set-up.

I have a GTX1080 TI GPU. This GPU only has 1 DVI and 4 USB outputs. However, it throws up an error as seems as if every VR game wants the computer monitor and the Vive headset to be connected to the GPU at the same time. Otherwise it gets stuck on a permanent loading screen. Thus, I while steamhome and viveport work, no actual games seem to function. Plugging in through the motherboard slots doesn't seem to work.
Should I get a USB to HDMI/VGA converter for my monitor, and use the DVI to HDMI wire for my vive? Should I get some sort of splitter? Is there a hidden slot somewhere on the actual GPU that I need to directly attach my vive or monitor?

Also, after the kinect trackers are aligned with your feet/hips, walk forward and backward a few times. If you sink into the floor or float into the air as your distance from the kinect changes, you need to adjust the rotation until it stops happening. Then line the trackers up vertically again. It's a bit annoying but closing the app will save the settings so you'll only have to do minor adjustments next time unless you move or bump the kinect.

What exactly is comfier about the current world, though? It's hard for me to make it comfier without knowing what's making it less comfy. The idea isn't to hang out in the pedestal rooms - there's the big area in the middle with the mirror, which i can add some stuff to (like a big tree with falling petals). There's the grassy raised areas with the campfires. Are those areas less comfy than whatever is in the current map?

I could make a couple of corridors between the rooms heading out to the edges of the map, but I'm not really encouraging people to go there. There's also the area under the grass behind the screen I can put stuff in.

I'm pretty close to just scrapping the redesign. Bit frustrating as it kind of represents my free time for the past 5 days or so, and I don't know exactly how to improve the current map without killing the comf factor. The redesign addressed a bunch of issues (including how the main mirror was barely used, and nobody ever used the camera), nobody ever went to the area behind the big mirror/screen) which I'm not sure how to fix. Obviously, if i stick with the current layout, it means committing to the OPPOSITE ethos of the redesign, ie, having sparse layout without a central focus. I'd be tempted to elevate the main mirror or otherwise distinguish it, and maybe move the Teto and Persona sets into an elevated position, somehow.

I've overheard a discussion about troubleshooting fixed joints.
That the rigid body should always be active.
My particle system is a rigid body fixed to the head so I can aim it. t. desktopper
It is toggled through gestures. Every toggle, the particle system move a little randomly. After multiple toggles, it's no longer where I want it.

Would this empty game object be a good place to put a rigid body and be a parent for my particle system?

There's two ways.

Preferred method is to:
1) Alight the two object mesh as good as you can
2) Ctrl+J join them into a single mesh
3) Highlight vertices that you want to join together. press F, then press CTRL+M pick Collapse.
