Are worlds expected to have the same range of drawcalls as an avatar?

I'm trying to approach them generally the same way I do with avatars by atlasing and limiting meshes/materials and such but I imagine it's more difficult to keep things down to single meshes a lot of the time, or doing things like having the map split up into meshes by room so that they can be deactivated when not needed, etc.

Note that map props that are static are mostly able to be batch drawn by unity itself. There's no skinning/armature happening on the CPU morphing the vertices, so all the vertices are loaded into the GPU once and stay there. Thus the number of unity objects and tri count matters less, but materials/atlassing still helps a bit.

Separate meshes don't matter in worlds. As long as they're set to static, then it'll merge them all anyway. I think I have at least 30-40 materials on my map and it runs fine. What usually kills it is the lighting though. Make your lights baked and use light probes. Also, you don't need to disable rooms. Look into occlusion culling.

Yeah I'm running vrchat and all the vr trash in a vm. Stuff performs pretty well and I'm happy with it. I will be honest with you in that CPU overhead of the hypervisor is not non-existent and you will have reduced frames in games like vrchat where they rape the ever loving shit out of a single thread but it's not that bad, worth it to not have to have two different workflows for each OS and be able to not have to stop all my tasks just to play games, and for graphics as it has direct access to the card it's native performance there. In terms or problems I have faced they were all windows specific and are due to me not knowing jack shit about how to operate windows systems with the exception of my vega 64 having the "reset bug" where if the VM reboots and it's running a windows guest you will not be able to use the card till you reboot the host machine as windows does not properly shut down the GPU and just shuts off, normally not a problem because power gets killed but not in this case, no Nvidia card has this problem to my knowledge, my 970 worked just fine and according to some source AMD "SHOULD" not have it in their latest cards (even though my vega 64 has it :^) ) . Since you have windows on another disk you could try it out for yourself without any issue by just passing through the disk device to the vm directly. It was simple for me to setup initially but I've used linux for awhile so YMMV in terms of how easy it is for it.

That's me and every yamakaze outfit I have I made myself. I just have a perfect naked model ready to go which I just make a copy of then use the weight transfer method or the armature transfer method to add clothes. Usually it's a biproduct of the main meetup getting too laggy for people's tastes (although I have a mediocre at best VR setup)

Fair warning though, it usually just ends up with us walking around, seeing something new, then sitting down to chit chat for a bit, then moving around again.

But never feel pressured to join on people and also to lead the charge in looking at cool worlds too. It's a nice change of pace from just going to mogra or something.

I'm running void linux but it really doesn't matter as all the vfio stuff is mainline at this point. Dedicating more cores doesn't really help from my non professional analysis in games. I haven't done a proper benchmark with more and less cores but in vrchat at least it didn't make a noticeable difference when I went from 4 cores to 6. Perhaps 4 is just enough to where the scheduler can spread out all the tasks for vr nicely but I still have 6 out of my 8 dedicated as some things like blender are sped up with the additional cores. I don't have an expansion card in this setup but in my previous machine I had one and it worked fine. Now I have just enough headers on my mobo to pass through for fbt and my vive which I just pass the USB controller through for so I can hotplug stuff. I'm not certain if passing through usb devices directly without the controller has a relevant impact but I do that for my keyboard/mouse just fine I woudn't do that for your vive/occulus though.

Not that anon, but I went with an Intel CPU with the intent to do VFIO because it has an iGPU while ryzen CPUs don't IIRC. Since you're passing through your dGPU to the guest, you either need an iGPU, or another dGPU for your host OS (or some wacky headless ssh setup and a laptop).

That's what I'm doing with my Windows VR box currently. It just boots straight into SteamVR and then use the desktop either in VR or remote with RDP.
