Kinda. If you like rhythm games, beat saber is incredibly fun. If you like milsim shooty game, onward is good, and pavlov is more counterstrike-style shooty game for VR. Driving and flight sims are apparently great in VR, but usually you need the autism to have a wheel/shifters/hotas hardware in addition to VR.

There's not really any good adventure-type RPG games though, unless you count skyrim. which is what it is at this point.

If you're not interested in spending a good 80% of your VR time sitting around in VRChat, the value proposition of 1st gen VR just isn't going to be there for most people. Gonna t. riftcuck for a moment. I've never tried WMR or Vive, but I think the rift screen and lenses are fine quality. Certainly comparable to any other 1st gen headset with the same FOV and pixel density at least. Requiring 3 USB 3 ports (and 1 USB 2.0 port for third sensor) is annoying, but what most people don't realize is that their motherboard has extra USB ports on it already, even if it doesn't physically have USBA ports on the back panel. You can buy a 20pin to 2 USB-A female cable on the internet for like $6.

But most of all, the touch controllers are just so far ahead of any other VR controllers on the market that even if the rift _did_ have shit screens, I'd recommend it. For both the few actual VR games that exist, and VRChat, where instead of having to remember pie wedges on shitty touchpads, you just... do the hand gesture IRL. Everybody gets excited about the knuckles conrtollers because the vive dildos are so awful, yet the touch controllers are 80% of what the knuckles do, and they already exist, right now.

I'll piggyback on this and say if you want the cheapest VR set you can buy, the Lenovo Explorer is on sale on Newegg for $99 without controllers, or $185 with them.

Personally I'd still go with a Rift as an intro to VR set. The touch controllers are excellent and the USB issues can be worked around with some ingenuity.

I categorically do not recommend the cheaper WMRs. The resolution is nice, but the fixed IPD and small sweet spot are deal-breakers for me. That might just be my face, though - it's worth a test run in the windows store to see if it works for you.
Anyway, there's more involved to the Rift than how many USB ports - it's also a matter of not saturating your USB controllers, and it not playing nice with certain brands of USB controller on top of that. Better hope you have a free PCI-E slot for a USB expansion card if Zuck doesn't like your onboard USB - and spend the time to research what usb controller is on the expansion card too. Want to add a Kinect to your setup for ghetto FBT? Good luck, because those gobble up bandwidth on your USB too.
The WMR controllers split the difference between the Touch and the Vive dildo nicely, I think. Good ergonomics - the only thing I dislike is the Windows button that kicks you back into the Cliff house if you push it accidentally. You'd think MS would have figured out how much gamers hate the Windows key by now.

Literally the only cons, are the Cliff house and the controllers not tracking well outside of your FOV. Otherwise, I think the Samsung is aces.

Picked up Robinson The Journey for around $8 and could definitely recommend it, as long as you're aware it's basically a walking simulator and you're OK with a slow walking speed, some motion sickness if you get that, and a few unintuitive controls because it was originally designed for gamepad and then added in motion controls later.

Otherwise it's a visually nice looking but short walking sim with some narrative and puzzle/adventure elements. It actually makes me want a sequel that's bigger and better, especially to continue the story and flesh out the universe which has potential from what you get to know in this first game.

For the pretty decent graphics, it also ran pretty well. The highest graphics options and 1.5x (in-game setting) super sampling gave buttery smooth frames on my 980ti.

I don't know if this is correct, but I atlased as normal and used the same atlas for multiple materials, simply selecting the relevant vertices for each material.

With that strategy, I could theoretically expand to however many materials I want.

When you get to unity however, I had to duplicate the material into the separate material slots on the model: It recognized the extra material slots, but failed to create the additional materials automatically.

The field of view isn't amazing, but it should be something you just forget about most of the time. If you're wearing it wrong it can go below 90 and the image quality will be a lot worse. Try tilting it back and forth and you'll rapidly see if it goes into greater focus.

does anyone know of a good way to get multi layered clothing weight painted equally? I have a skirt that is made of 2-3 layers which i had to rig myself, and i mostly used a combination of blenders automatic weights and manual adjustments. The problem is that with dynamic bones on the skirt because the weight paints on each layer are not equal, when i move the layers clip into each other. Is that a simple way of doing this or do i have to do it the hard way and basically manually assign weight paint strengths by hand for each layer face by face?
