How do you differentiate between any of the modern processors and graphics cards? I want to get into VR but my PC is about a decade old.

Clock speed matters when comparing within the same CPU architecture, but IPC varies so much between them that it's only one component along with things like cache size and memory speed. i5 is better, it has more cache and usually more cores, but you also have to look at which generation i-series it is. i7 is better than i5, and i9 is the new super-high-end designation Intel rolled out in a panic to compete with AMD. On my old model (on the right), the leg tracker ball position was perfect. Very close to their actual position in real life (in green).

In my new model (left), I use *almost* exactly the same armature. I removed some unused hat bones, and skirt bones. I remade boob bones. Everything else is the same. The model height is the same, and scaling in unity is the same. But the ball position is much higher.

Why?

Driving me nuts. I've been moving around the bones below the chest in different ways and it doesn't seem to affect it. Next I'm trying to add back the hat bones I deleted, if that somehow makes VRChat think the upper body is taller, so it pushes the tracker balls lower.

I'm not entirely certain about it, but I think that the scaling between your playspace (HMD to tracker) and in-game (viewball to armature) is affected primarily by the width of your gameobject's bounding box. i.e. a wider character -> in-game is scaled smaller. And the system height settings somehow apply over this as well, e.g. the parts in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IqUVFuSD5a4 to get your arm length to match up.

So I don't think your armature matters, but there might be a stray shapekey or other geometry change that messed things up.

I used ProBuilder with ProGrids most of the time and very few 3rd party models you can get for free on the asset store or elsewhere. Make sure you got the standard assets and post processing pack from Unity.

To get the scale of certain things or to compare the proportions I had the mega fantasy pack too, it had a lot of low poly stuff. Like I based the height of the railings partly on the fence from that pack.

To get Lighting done properly it is important to first place Reflection probes and then adjust the colors of your materials. How I did it is that i roughly placed textures on everything using a normal version, a darker one and a lighter one of something or for the indoor walls i used only one texture. Just a quick and easy recognizable color. Then once that was done, I set all reflection probes, then started adjusting the colors and reflection intensity (Remember everything reflects in the real world, even if only slightly).

Placing reflection probes itself is based on how much changes. In Aria Company I used as many reflection probes on the main building as on the city part, because the main building got a lot of windows and therefore needs a lot of detail on those reflections, while the city part only reflects very slightly and therefore only needs a few low res probes (literally used 32x32 ones) in order to get the colors right. Then just place them where the colorspace of the map changes drasticly. Reflection probes cost nearly nothing so you can also spam them a bit. Test around and see if something reflects weirdly. Also helpful is to have a mirror texture (max out shininess and metalic) which you apply after setting and baking one probe to see if they got your probe right.
And of course you can overide an object with a reflection probe of your choosing if you dont like how unity blended them for you.

Tried throwing a video for "Frantic Freighter" together just now but holy shit that game needs some work.
I'm a fan of Phr00t's previous games in the 3079 RPG series so I know that graphics aren't going to be a thing but holy shit the game is barely working for me, just picking a destination on the map display is headache inducing as it either picks it then immediately discards it or just doesn't pick it at all.The in-game music is extraordinarily loud, the game can't be paused, many scenes are just "react within five seconds or lose" and just trying to pick something up is very hit and miss.
I cannot recommend Frantic Freighter in its current state even at just one dollar which is a huge shame.

I've been over this a bunch, you all tell new players to just make their own avatar, it's super easy, it's no trouble at all just do <x> and <y> and <z> and you have a finished working avatar ready to go.
But it really isn't that simple, some of us have no idea what blender or unity or whatever the hell else you use are, we don't even have the software pre-requisites needed to install them.
And then you direct us to a two hour long youtube tutorial that is out of date compared to current blender AND it assumes some passing knowledge of these systems to begin with.

For you, who know how to do it, it isn't hard.
But some of you are basically going "Hey, making music isn't hard, here's the address of a shop that sells instruments go wild".
Maybe it's just because I'm older but I simply can not get my head around all this stuff, it makes no sense to me and while everyone has been so helpful in trying to assist me I don't think i'll EVER have a custom avatar.
So please, stop telling people it is super easy because if they have no background in computing or such have you then they're not going to find it easy and they're going to be dissuaded.

There's a tab for avatar worlds or simply searching under worlds for "avatar" will net you a lot of results.

Hey fellow old man, I'm 35 and I only have ever had basic normie computer knowledge too.
Blender is fairly complex and arcane at times and I think it's hard to understand no matter what your age.

I really do suggest Tupper's avatar import tutorial, I followed it step by step and was able to import my first avatar.
Since then I've just plugged away with it and been very quick to ask people smarter than me for help and now have the ability to put together fairly nice avatars. I'm not as good as many but I can make avatars that look nice.

So my advice is to start simple and start by following an import tutorial to the letter, and then branching out from there by asking others for help. If you'd like to ask me for help, my name is Yuru. Feel free to find me and drop my a line, I'll try to guide you as best I can.

I don't think learning Blender from the ground up is a good idea. I thought that at first, but now that I am experienced with it, I think that would be a years-long task given how arcane it is. My advice is to build the basic avatar import skillset by doing the tutorial, and then branching out from there by learning little things here and there about things you're interested in making your avatar do.

3 sets of 2 group photos EVERY weekend is exhausting.
2 weeks to prepare for an event is perfect but because the event is both weekends people feel rushed to make it for the first week and are over it by the second week.

Should make the group photo weekends strictly every second weekend with the event weekend coinciding with it.

That way they won't be exhausting and people will have plenty of time to prepare without feeling rushed to make it to the first weekend of the event for the first photo nights.

It's also very easy to add reddit spacing.

Yea i'm an /agdg/ nodev and have been working on a 2.5d game for over a year now.
All the models and characters in the game are OC i've made in blender but since getting into VRChat my blender power level has gone through the roof. I was going to make some of them avatars for VRChat but my skills are so beyond what they used to be i actually want to remake a lot of them first.
