Don't feel too awkward, there are some newfriends every week. Mention that you are new and most people will introduce themselves and their friends to you. Especially for people new to VR in general, it's always fun to watch their first experiences and take them to the cool maps to explore.

As for what we do, 90% of "the meetups" in VRC is us sitting around a friends+ close by a mirror talking about random stuff. Like how shit the game and optimization is, or how drunk everyone is, or cool shaders and avatars. Sometimes there's an "event" like in the OP and people modify their avatars to fit a theme which is fun to see, or you can dance to music. Sometimes you can find small groups to explore or go to the few gameplay maps like the dungeon. Outside of VRC, people play pavlov together sometimes, see past threads for streamables of the experience.

/vrg/, I'm thinking about buying a vive pro. Is there a particularly show stopping reason why I shouldn't? I used the previous Vive at a conference a year ago and enjoyed it, but I wanted to wait until a newer model came out before I bought something for myself. Reading around, the biggest complaints that I've seen are:

1: Its improvements are relatively minor over its predecessor. I've seen it refereed to as more of a gen 1.3 device rather than a gen 2 device.
2: The Rift is arguably a better value for my $$$, but it's disqualified out of hand because (((facebook)))

My initial use cases are probably going to be exploring assorted VR games on steam like a kid in a candy store, and playing Elite Dangerous to enhance the comfy factor. Is there a showstopping reason why I shouldn't buy it or a reason why I should wait another year?
