With Pavlov I do this to get it working right:

Vive user with some technical issues, just wanted to check and see if any of you had any fixes for this that I haven't tired yet.

When I launch steamVR I get the general "headset not connected properly" error. I unplugged all the connections, plugged them all back in ensuring everything was snug with no change. I un-installed and reinstalled steamVR with no change, I bypassed the linkbox with the HDMI and USB with no change, and updated my graphics drivers. There are some pretty bad kinks in my cable from months of hard use but if there was an issue with the cable this is the first I've seen of it, I get audio in the headset just fine and it seems to power up with the red light on the side.

You can keep your model with its original materials, but in a state where it can be exported with atlased materials in only a few clicks so you don't have to go back to branch points.

>if you have multiple materials in the atlased version, you can select all of their verticies, then move them a full texture length in any direction to make them easier to select later with a box (the texture loops, so the UVmap still works the same)

To export:
>assign the vertices to the correct materials
>delete the original UVmap
>export as FBX which won't save the original materials
>do not overwrite the previous save

If you've already deleted the original material and UV map, you can get them back by importing the pre-atlased version of the model which will bring the original materials with it, then you can manually select each set of verticies from the UVmap, separate by selection, then transfer UVmaps onto them and change the material back to the original. This takes longer, so it's best to just keep the original materials and UVmaps.

on my new map i have the layout so that you got a small observatory on top of a hill and that design lets you cull very nicely while still preserving detail of a forrest. when you are on top at the center you will only ever see a quarter of things below, but if you are below, you wont see much more than a quarter as well, due to the hill blocking a lot of stuff. You can even billboard trees nicely and you wont see it ingame.

Currently runs at 80% of the fps compared to the "lag-free" stuff.

You can use a particle system with zero velocity on the particles. I think there's a particle pen prefab out there somewhere. Even with particles you have to write slow though. The netcode interpolation is never going to be as smooth as the writing looks locally.

Separated hand gestures means 'left thumbs up' and 'right thumbs up' are separated in the custom animation override - like pic related, instead of just having 'thumbs up' which is activated with either hand. I was playing Obduction for a few hours. It makes my brain hurt.
I got so far as finding a robot with arms and powering it up. And it's some sort of math logic puzzle to connect all the stuff on it's chest together.

I like all the avatars a d that's why I would go there, I dont usually use avatars world's as hangout spots.
If you want to make it a hangout spot make a more comfy version of it without the avatars, add some funny props or alcohol props for people to mess around with, make a day time version with nice lighting.
If you want vrg to just go to maps you've made in general, then make small comfy optimised maps in interesting settings and locations

Thanks for the feedback. Seems the concensus is that it's an avatar world and people want smaller maps to hangout on.

It's funny how popular the Alcoholics HQ world seems to be, since that would be relatively straightforward to emulate. Though I think I would focus more on comfy. I'll get around to making a proper comfy map without avatars and hope to goodness people like it enough to hangout there.

I like maps that are more cohesive concepts. Madcat is a good example of a cohesive map, it has a good theme, and has 3-4 hangout areas where people will naturally congregate that are far enough away from each other for the groups to be separate but not so far away that you won't know where everyone else is. Mogra is another good example, and Johnny's map is yet another.

I also like maps with themes, like a diner or a office or a mechanic's shop or a boat or something like that.
Maps so big that people can go to some obscure corner and be hard to find are not good hangout maps.
I think maps need a normal intermediate light level to be a good hangout map. Not too bright but not so dark that people bitch about not being able to see. It's best if there is a normal brightness area and maybe a darker area.

Line up the balls with your legs and hips, then press grip(?) to attach yourself. I think it's grip on Vive as well.

You line up your body with your t-posed avatar, then hit the triggers on both controllers with your arms in the T-pose. Depending on your avatar, the feet and hip balls probably won't line up with your avatar feet, but it doesn't matter as long as it's close enough. Get the playspace mover advanced settings overlay from the OP, it helps with calibration.
