It's fucking depressing.
Can someone tell a bit about the /d/cember, how should I prepare?
deadmau5 is streaming vrchat right now kek
Poker needs more games than just poker
Vox needs more content overall
Pavlov needs to fix their balance and add more content and add bigger lobbies
Onward needs more people playing and massive lobby support without mods
Beat Saber needs ranked MP
Elite Dangerous needs to stop existing
Scam Citizen needs toadd VR so I can hijack the thread with itcome out
H3VR needs to add actual gamemodes that are fun
Oval needs more attention and nicer movement/gunplay
Contractors needs more natural gunplay and better IK
Blade and Sorcery needs to come out and add MP
Sprint Vector needs better character models, more players, and more maps
Gorn needs actual content aside from a 10 minute "campaign"
VRChat needs actual content

>>235664221
sprint vector is passable for what it is, it just needs lobbies so you dont need to add people to friends on steam every time
>>235664221
>Contractors needs more natural gunplay and better IK
The gunplay feels more natural than both our current options (until you have to do anything other than aim and shoot I will admit, hopefully head-relative plate carrier soon) and the IK is literally god tier compared to everything else we have. Go ahead and turn on the player IK model, and try to make the arms not track correctly. You can't.

Triple Triad tournament
10PM GMT Saturday 1st December (Countdown below)
Approach me ingame or message me onDiscordat Shammy#5256 if you want to enter the tournament
Depending on the amount of people entering it will either be a single knockout or best of 3.
First place prizes - Champion card & trophy prop in Bifrost
Second place prize - Legendary card
Third place prize - Epic card
More prizes may be added/changed
You will need to make sure you're in the world during the tournament! If you're not in the world when it's your turn you'll automatically lose.
Rules:
Closed hand - You won't be able to see your opponents cards
Bonus rule - Sudden Death - If the game ends in a draw, a sudden death occurs in which a new game is started but the cards are distributed on the side of the colour they were on at the end of the game.
It will probably be using the deck builder rather than random cards so get practicing with making different decks!
Link to the world to practice: https://vrchat.com/home/world/wrld_f6a86cc9-abcd-40e5-baa3-b06986cd18dd

The characters all chicken wing obscenely hard, it's very unnatural when you're holding a rifle properly to have your elbows at 90 degree angles from your body
also shooting and aiming feels like you're dragging the gun up against some form of resistance, it feels awful
Damage model felt pretty poor as well, 308 takes 4-5 hits to kill even when they're wearing soft armor that doesn't stop it, I just defaulted to the P90 every time because of fast ROF and just magdumped instead of trying with a G3 or other battle rifle which is my typical strategy

Question. Why have neural networks and machine learning not been applied to IK? It seems like the obvious solution to solve the problems we have with player position when leaning.
>>235665049
>The characters all chicken wing obscenely hard, it's very unnatural when you're holding a rifle properly to have your elbows at 90 degree angles from your body
Well that's because most of us are actually in fact chicken-winging. I'm probably one of the few that actually arm-tucks instead of using a protube, and a lot of the protube guys have awful shooting posture and the length of pull dialed WAY the hell in, which results in compulsory chicken winging. On that note, hard chicken-winging is the norm when using a plate carrier.
>shooting and aiming feels like you're dragging the gun up against some form of resistance, it feels awful
I have nothing to say about this because I don't perceive it at all. Make sure your settings are properly configured and you don't have artificial smoothing enabled.
>Damage model felt pretty poor as well, 308 takes 4-5 hits to kill even when they're wearing soft armor that doesn't stop it
You are flat out not making the hits that you think you are. I run a G3 exclusively and routinely drop people with two rounds even through armor. Damage does scale with most weapons over distance however, try taking longer shots with the G3.
The games biggest problem at the moment I'd say is the LOD pop-in. It's horrendous.

I think rotating the headset sideways should just enforce leaning anyway. When are you ever going to need to actually crouch with a tilted head?
>>235665950
On this subject, what is the approximate ratio of givers and receivers in /vrg/?
>>235666031
I think it's a problem that could be very easily solved with a few hours of training a simple NN. I don't think it would take long for the network to register, when properly trained with an adversarial algorithm against a properly rigged player skeleton, that if your hands don't move but the headset does and leans slightly while doing it, that the player is probably not hobbling to the side while leaving his fucking hands in one place.
>>235665680
I don't chicken wing with a PC with standard shooters cut plates, it's objectively bad form and your plates are probably oversized or something weird- but it is true that a lot of the players are shitter noguns who instinctively chicken wing
On top of that, your character never stands in a normal human pose, even when you straighten your stance and hold your arms at your side, it always looks like someone in VRC with horribly configured full body- the constantly "about to pounce" crouch and hands like they're ready to quickdraw, it looks silly
As for the weird feeling, it was largely just a feeling of it being nowhere near as snappy as Pavlov or Onward feel, stuff felt off like it *was* being artificially smoothed, although I didn't dig through the menu yet
As for the shitty balance, it was in the first week of the closed beta. Someone did mention they buffed battlerifles which is good, because I pinged the fucker a half dozen times from a hilltop when he was just blazing through the open and got proper blood hitreg but he just kept on trucking, it felt like Tarkov all over again

>I don't chicken wing with a PC with standard shooters cut plates, it's objectively bad form and your plates are probably oversized or something weird- but it is true that a lot of the players are shitter noguns who instinctively chicken wing
I mostly agree with this.
>On top of that, your character never stands in a normal human pose, even when you straighten your stance and hold your arms at your side, it always looks like someone in VRC with horribly configured full body- the constantly "about to pounce" crouch and hands like they're ready to quickdraw, it looks silly
This stems from some in-progress stuff dealing with player height calibration. Did you notice that every player is the same height? Currently, that's deliberate, but they're working on both manual and dynamic calibration of the player height to alleviate this.
>stuff felt off like it *was* being artificially smoothed, although I didn't dig through the menu yet
Yeah, do that. I'm pretty sure you have something enabled that you wouldn't want.
>As for the shitty balance, it was in the first week of the closed beta
Ah yes.
> Someone did mention they buffed battlerifles which is good, because I pinged the fucker a half dozen times from a hilltop when he was just blazing through the open and got proper blood hitreg but he just kept on trucking, it felt like Tarkov all over again
I know exactly what you're talking about. It wasn't the beginning of the beta, it was a week or so after that, but they changed some shit an inadvertently nerfed rifles. I literally stopped playing for two weeks until they fixed it and I started going 21-9 with a G3 again :^)
The games improved rapidly compared to any other beta I've been in and there's only a handful of things left to fix. I'm quite excited for launch.

>Question. Why have neural networks and machine learning not been applied to IK? It seems like the obvious solution to solve the problems we have with player position when leaning.
This would be nice, yeah. there are a few research papers with fully analytic IK from hand/head pose as well. Everyone in the unity world just uses finalIK's VRIK though, which I think is CCD-based, or FABRIK-based. I think the ML approach is mostly missing training data specifically from controller pose. You could stick vive trackers on your elbows and train an ML to predict elbow pose from hmd + controller pose for yourself, but it might be hard to generalize.
How do I befriend NA? I'm the the type of person who only ever really opens up when there's no one else except me and one person around.
>>235667637
>You could stick vive trackers on your elbows and train an ML to predict elbow pose from hmd + controller pose for yourself, but it might be hard to generalize.
Any source of a properly tracked player would be fine. Including a prerecorded 'video' of the player position against prerecorded sensor data for the IK algorithm. The nice thing about NN adversarial training is that it doesn't matter if the source data is a live feed, you just have to be able to compare it to what the algorithm does with it.

>>235667881
Sure, but again, you'd have to collect a lot of it. And now that I think about it, the real reason it's probably not used is because _evaluating_ NNs isn't exactly cheap, never mind the training. Running all that matrix math across 10 players at 90 fps just to get elbows, compared to FABRIK or an analytic IK, probably isn't practical.

It's a day to cater to yours or other popular sexual fetishes with a custom avatar.
You like futanari? pick your favorite anime girl and slap a dick on her.
You like Shibari/bondage? fuckin' make a non-humanoid avatar that slides everywhere because it's hogtied.
You like fuckin' ahegao? gesture override those blendshapes.
Bonus points for putting in that extra effort like matching the cockskin on the futa to her overall skin tone, or adding sweat and blush to the ahegao, etc.
All fetishes are welcome. I think either Based Manami will be hosting or maybe Mommy Yuru? Hopefully Yuru can legally tell us if we've gone too far with an avatar and need to microwave our hard drives.

4: Although we started off with the wrong foot, I'm glad you could put all that beside you and still be friends. I enjoy spending time with you because of how considerate, fun and helpful you are. Thank you for helping me when I've been in need.
5: We've had some good conversations and banter, and you've helped me out plenty of times. Thank you. PS. your avatar makes my pp big.

7: We've had some good talks. Your avatar makes my pp big. hope things work out for you and him.
8: I only met you recently, but I hope I get to know you better. The first talks we've had have made you seem like a trustworthy and overall nice person I should get to know better.
9: Same as above. Thanks for helping me out that one time.
10: A great person. I love spending time with you, I don't know how you can put up with how boring of a person I am but you are always interesting to listen to or speak to. We've shared our expriences and trust, and I hope that our friendship may flourish.

How do servers even work in Pavlov? They're obviously not dedicated, so what does the region mean? If I host from EU, will it give the same latency to everyone as if I hosted from NA, or does it somehow route via the selected region?
>>235674540
I meant pavlov.
>>235674983
It's where you are. You are hosting it.
>>235674983
It's still a dedicated host within the region, but run by the pavlov devs (or probably unity's photon service or some other cloud shit). You should select based on where you expect most of the players to be, but it won't lock them out or anything.
>>235675228
Wrong, it's not p2p hosted. If you leave, whoever joined after you gets the lobby "owner" role, but same server.

Yeah, the "host" just gets to choose the map and pin, basically, and their name shows up in the list of lobbies. The only special thing you need to host lobbies yourself is to have the maps you want to play on pre-downloaded (or have played on them with another host), else you can't select them. You can subscribe to the list of maps in the OP to get them.

You don't need to reach behind in Pavlov. I don't know if it's exclusive to Rift, but I find the gun is sometimes slightly misaligned if I bring it up quickly until it snaps to the correct position. I guess it's going to the IMU backup because the cameras can't track such a movement.
>>235677419
I can't tell who has one and who doesn't so I don't think it matters. Sometimes it doesn't register quite right and I grab my pistol when I reach over my shoulder for my back gun and I'm on vive. Mostly happens when I'm crouched though so it's probably the way the player model crouches than anything else.
>>235678548
>Mostly happens when I'm crouched though so it's probably the way the player model crouches than anything else.
It's because you fold like a napkin.
>>235678548
The 'back' is always directly below the headset, so it doesn't consider the rotation when you are crouched. I'm surprised how well the side slots work, though. I can cross draw without looking and it almost never fails to grab. Unless you're crouching low, then they glich back and forth.

The Wednesday before last, a group of anons here explored Anyland. It's a free game on steam that's in the same bucket of "social VR metaverse" thing, like VRChat, Sansar, Altspace, NeosVR, etc etc. I took some recordings of our adventures, and have some impressions for ya.
Starting off, anyland covers the essentials pretty well. You launch the program and you start off in a private world. You've got hands, and little menus attached to your hands, which have a world list, and friends list. You can hop around to different worlds, and after an excruciating 10 second loading screen, it'll pop up, and you can see other people in the same instance and talk to them with spatialized audio. Movement is teleport, snap turning. No other options, sadly. There are a surprising amount of "streamer" options for the desktop window though, like steadicam, 3rd person follow, etc.
As far as building the actual worlds and stuff, it's a lot more "native" than VRChat. All the props are constructed out of a library of primitive shapes, and some built-in shaders/colors. No texture import AFAICT, so it adds up to a low-poly look, for better or worse. There's also a cool inventory system, in webm-related, where you can props out of worlds or make them yourself, and spawn them wherever.
>>235679942
And I thought I was delusional
>>235680221
That and PoV.
>>235680345
A little bit more of that low-poly aesthetic. I guess there are some textures too, like the rug.
https://streamable.com/8tak6
There's a complex trigger system built-in the game too, like the door opening, and the oblivion gate at the end. It crashed my game when I touched it. I think it actually led to another Halloween world though. I missed out on a lot of the exploration, but apparently the connected worlds were pretty huge. All built in-game too.
>>235680221
>>235680703
if this is something you worry about, you're not straight.
>>235680797
Triggers also apply to props. This isn't the best video, but it's a low-poly revolver with working chambers. There were a lot of really detailed weapons in the game actually. Gun autism at its low-poly finest.
Is there any hope?
>>235681330
I'm more interested in the thing dancing in the back

>>235681554

>>235681379

>>235681330
Avatar building works as a system of attachments to your arms and headset and rough body area. You can grab or build (low-poly) stuff and put it anywhere. And you can just lift shit from the world. in webm-related I become a working calculator, and another anon attached some rodeo guy to his arm. More on this later.
>>235681554
That was a little animated prop. No IK or FBT or libsync animation that I could tell for avatars, but maybe for props.
>>235681330
Looks pretty cool. I wish I had friends with VR headsets.
>>235681950
Fug, forgot webm.
Here's also longer streamable of the inventory system and animated props, in which I kidnap a fairy. It's _almost_ anime. I dunno how the sound clips work actually, they must be imported somehow. We didn't get too deep into the creative side of things, but it'd be fun to go back sometime and see.

>>235682054
Make some friends here, we have headsets. We're going to do the same metaverse exploration meetup this wednesday at 1900 central time, if you can make it. I'm not for sure on the platform, but I think we're going to try rec room, since there's some custom world and scripting stuff there.
>>235682550
Oh yeah, there are also avatar pedestals of sorts, where you click a thing, it turns you into something. "You've been given this body" it says.
>>235681950
Er, I meant lipsync, or any emotes/shapkeys. Nada AFAICT, but maybe the scripting system could do it on button presses.

After a while we figured out how to actually edit objects. You can create a new world in-game, then assign people as "editors" in it. Gives you access to make "things", which are collections of primitives mostly, but also you can edit the vertices, which is super cool. Apparently it's a recent addition too. It's no blender, but it really makes me wish for just edit mode and proportional editing in VR.
>>235684907
Tomorrow perhaps! I actually *just* picked it up an hour ago, and I have slow-ass internet. Also about fucking time Beat Saber got an update. That PSVR port took a lot of their dev time.

https://streamable.com/ng87f

>>235686385
There was this funky 1950's future world. Many cute props to mess with. Worth noting we were basically the only people in public worlds at this point, so don't expect lots of people if you try. Might be better on weekends I guess.
>>235687010
And finally we went to an avatar world, which basically has a bunch of attachable stuff. Found some nice arms and a body.
And that was pretty much it. Overall I liked anyland quite a bit. Unlike sansar and altspace it's not trying to be some locked-down "pay for virtual stuff" second life clone, and they're investing into the whole "make things natively in VR" approach of neosVR. It's actually a bit better than neos in that respect. In Neos, there are no permissions, so you can just open up the dev console in any world and reparent everything to yourself if you want, making griefing extremely easy. Anyland is locked to editors of the instance, so you can have more of a semblance of just hanging out like in VRChat. It's not as battle-hardened though, so I'm sure spamming expensive props from your inventory can grief pretty effectively, and there's no stopping that.
I like the in-VR editor, but I wish neos/anyland had a desktop editor as well. I like the precision of unity/blender on desktop still. It'd be nice to rough out something in desktop, then import and finish it up in VR. Or vice versa. I can't imagine programming and debugging complicated game logic in VR. Also, the low-poly look of anyland did start to grate after a while, and while it's not great, I like the mishmash of styles in VRChat. Having full access to unity shaders and stuff would help a lot.
Anyways, look for a post on wednesday night this week if you want in on future expoloring sessions. It's always fun to try new things with other people.

Newbie here, thinking about getting into VR. I want to know what games are good for making me feel like I'm in space. Bad news everyone! Ashei's coffee bar and avatar world failed inspection and is shutting down. Mainly because most of his avatars had thousands of dynamic bones and materials. Now he doesn't have enough avatars for an avatar world.
So it's time for an avatar drive! If you have avatars to put into his world to save it, send them to ashei so he can put them on pedestals.

>>235700087
You need to buy another 75$ camera to get proper roomscale tracking with Oculus. The cameras are also far worse, as is the cable to the headset- it's fairly frequent for people to have to RMA it here. Additionally the Vive has a camera on the outside of the headset, but it has no legitimate reason for existing and is useless, but adds to the price nonetheless.
>>235700571
I've had my headset for almost two years now, and my cameras have never given me issues. The software itself is the problem.

Palmer is unironically an /our guy/ that was coerced into a deal to sell his life work to the (((devil))).
>>235700087
Vive had first mover advantage and was the first headset with actual room scale. Oculus eventually closed the gap after finally realizing sitting VR was retarded. They then cut prices aggressively and HTC hasn't responded because they are a bankrupt company and likely can't afford lower margins. Vive still has better tracking tech but functionally you won't notice this for the most part if you get the 3 cameras.
The only other advantage to Vive is you have more upgrade paths and can add wireless VR or FBT in the future. Presumably the Valve knuckles will also get release sometime in the future as well.

fluffy tail doesn't need a reason.

I've done very decent vr on a r9 290 8gb and a amd fx4xxx, 16gb ram and an ssd. Literally trashbin PC, LITERALLY pulled from the trash, and it worked great for 75% of everything out there.
this was before steam reprojection too.
Also done it on i5 2320 and a 470, 480, 290, 390. Ran great. Better than my fx9590 even because software is biased towards intel.

I've recently accepted that I'm probably the fastest mmd remixer among everyone I know due to "sekret no ledge" from years of being a ultra nerd even among weebs and loving vocaloid.
Even so,
I've hated blender for years but I worked out a way to make it fairly tolerable, and cats is honestly almost too easy.
I think the best thing to do would be to import the finished fbx into blender with the latest cats, and just use the new material combiner they added last month. Then just bring back into unity with one material using xiexe's pbr mixed toon shader and upload with one or two dynamic bones and no collider on each major hair root with stiffer settings. Or use conservative cloth physics to bypass the check they do. You could crank them all back out in no time.
>>235700804
because people are lazy, and autistic 16yo chubby girls with dreams of being english teachers in japan, who use pmxedit to remix mmd models with horrible weight painting from assets they ripped from mmd mall can't decide which fandom they want to masturbate to more, so they end up doing shota furry light TDA edits all day long with fox tails.

And I was still more actively part of /aa2g/ and /cmg/ making 4komas in those games, so that was something I missed more of (and the communities and friends I made). Not enough time has really passed for me to miss anything. Only I do miss the simpler times before Discord ruined friendships, and split communities, and my e-friends were all one big happy dysfunctional family
>>235729848
I was barely playing anything between 2014 and 2018. Mostly just being depressed.
I am grateful to /vrg/ for having put me through such mental anguish, otherwise I would have possibly never learned the lessons I needed to. I hope one day I can actually break out of my predicament and earn what I expected to be given. Hopefully you're still here when that time comes.
>>235733745
wait, sorry, shit, no you can't.
You can export mmd from onigiri however, which is what I was thinking of.
http://onigiri.cyberstep.com/
The character builder in that game is limited compared to others in the genre but the ability to export mmd ready models from it isn't half bad. If you've been playing the game for a while and you got some event ukata or something it might be a nice way to build vrc models for some people.
If only you could do the same with a super detailed builder like the one from blade and soul.
I unironically wish the ready player one character builder didn't sputter and die.
>>235729848
would consider it life changing if vrc stopped running like shit
>>235735363
i'm more interested in a fully fledged exporter for koikatsu(or V-Katsu) with shapekey support and without having to do all texture stuff that you have to do with the current method.
>>235736086
Koikatsu doesn't use shape keys. The expressions are controlled by bones. You could potentially make a script to make them into shape keys automatically.
>>235736086
it does exist, there's a thread on hongfire, but you're absolutely right - It would be a lot of work to automate, i agree.
Shapekeys are actually a less difficult thing to do out of everything - blender's "morphs" or "blendshapes" support is pretty shit compared to metasequoia, and maya and even 3dsMax which is why they're so prominent and common in MMD and vrm models - it's literally just copying the vertex group with the lasso to a new layer, moving some things and applying it as a morph. It's ultra easy- but it's pulling teeth in blender.
One way that might be possible is for the cats team to integrate those specific troubles in those exports into the "fix model" feature.
>>235736371
>>235736556
I didn't realize they were on the bones from vkatsu/koikatsu. Sweet.
in that case the feature already exists in CATS blender plugin. Enter pose mode, then move the bones to move the mesh.
Click the "save as shape keys" button or whatever the hell it's called and that should do it.

Audio books are a thing. Absolutely fantastic when you're working on or playing something that doesn't require you to constantly read text or listen to people talking. I went through the audio book of the life of pi while playing minecraft and the one of starship troopers while playing factorio.
>>235744527
thankfully it only breaks a few things related to supersampling. Ironically there's some default settings in the nvidia control panel that mess things up too, like forcing single frame vr rendering. It's actually better to leave that on "application controlled" since most game engines optimize forward rendering anyway.
>>235743947
Desync issues, but I did before. I definitely have seen more movies thanks to VRChat.
>>235744671
VR pre-rendered frames in Nvidia settings defaults to 1 and it should stay that way.
...what does that have to do with forward renderers at all? Additional frames waiting in the swapchain is terrible for VR. Double-buffered all the way.
>>235743671
already exists on gear. http://chimerareader.com/
You can also just use oculus desktop or ovrdrop.
>>235743671
I feel the same way, but I'm having too much fun right now to take a break. I think I will start cutting back a little to spend more time on non-VR stuff though.
>>235744947
setting it to 1 actually breaks or adds latency for all non-nvidia vrworks optimization in dx12 for all other titles. Setting it on "application controlled" means it STILL PRE-RENDERS a maximum of 1 frame 99.999999% of the time but tech like async reprojection hitches less.
Not many people have vega 64, but it's much smoother when transitioning to motion compensation, despite being slower than the 1080ti. When you turn that setting off, they're suddenly on par and there's literally no difference or lag. It's a dumb setting for legacy games on non-oculus or wmr hardware that they should have never left as the default.
>>235744947
to clarify, all games will pre-render a max of 1 frame anyway because it's required by the driver chain to the headset, HOWEVER, leaving it on auto allows hmd manufacturer and game engine controlled performance and smoothing tricks to work properly and reduces the latency needed to render a frame. You can see it in the steam latency timer if you don't believe me, or in the stats on ovradvanced settings.
Any game on dx12 or modern versions of unity and unreal benefit. Vrchat benefits too, most of all.
>>235744947

Neat. There's something I didn't know.
I was having some hitching myself in the beta with motion smoothing, but that was only when it rapidly kept alternating between smoothing on and off, hovering near 90fps. 1080Ti.
>>235744185
I enlarge the text/zoom in and set the virtual screen as far back as possible. It's not the same as curling up with a book IRL, but that won't be possible until varifocal headsets, unfortunately.
>>235745778
I've got one of those as well and the difference is stark. Turn it off and save yourself a profile since it'll get updated every time a driver is installed clean.
HPET off in the bios helps on ryzen too.
I also turn off interleaved reprojection since it can fuck up player controlled objects in space, like the controllers and hmd and vive trackers. Async can be left on as can motion smoothing, but interleaved is no bueano and you look smoother in vrchat.
I haven't played with it too much yet but there's a 3rd party, re-written open vr driver that is a maximum effort no bloat bridge to any game for vr. https://github.com/TrueOpenVR that has a steamvr bridge too. It cuts out a lot and if you're using an alternative hmd it can speed some games up I hear, like dirt3.
>>235746454
Interleaved and async are no longer available settings at all now, thanks to motion smoothing. Internally I think it has interleaved off anyway now, and async always on.
>it can speed some games up I hear, like dirt3
You mean Dirt Rally? You can run that entirely without Oculus stuff installed on a Vive with Revive as well now. Huge speedup.r/Vive/comments/9eo5vd/dirt_rally_without_oculus_software_installed/
I've begun to see "people" without VR as lesser beings, especially the ones who have no desire whatsoever for VR to evolve and succeed. You have to be actually disabled to argue that a desktop / console experience is better than a VR experience - and to wish for VR to fail.
>>235741998
>>235742470
These two webms were the reason I started, yes.
Man I miss the old VRC times when everyone was still new the all of this shit and people had down to earth models without overdone shaders and effects. Community was less cancer, no russians there was a far better distribution of Avatar type. (Anime, Generic e.t.c).
>>235747114
they are indeed brainlets. I love my boss but his aversion to vr is entirely his anatomy, makes me so upset when he trashes it. Just wait till valve releases Half Life 1.5 and their headset. Anyone who doesn't think vr is the future really hasn't tried it enough. I knew with the DK2 that this would be the future of all computing.
Side note: VRChat is way easier than sansar but they're gonna push for it to go mainstream. Making worlds is real easy in there and the graphics are top notch, but avatars are a nightmare and there's no good tutorials for blender yet.

Sansar's fucking dead and Linden Labs is just shoveling cash at it to try and get people to make content. Anyone who has prior experience with LL knows what assholes they are, so I hope to god they crash and fail with this VR project of theirs. They don't deserve to rule the social VR space, and they'll fuck it up royally if they do.
My vote is for High Fidelity to make a success out of it. They're way ahead of Sansar as well now.
This beat saber update is really shitty, the sabers are impossible to track.

you're used to the current length. They shortened them to deal with more rapid drum rolls and to prevent accidental slashes people complained about.

>>235748759
I hope that's true, because it -looks- really nice visually and performs very well. They also managed to scam a bunch of hollywood types and esports people.
If it does crash and burn at least it'll give time for vrchat to catch up.
>>235748238
The move to steam is a good choice, but there's still so much they'd have to do just on making it a worthwhile experience first, while the devs seem way more concerned about their fake money and jewing people for virtual items. VR support in sansar is an afterthought rather than their core userbase. In the few hours we spent exploring sansar a month ago, we didn't meet a single other VR user, just a 5 or 6 desktoppers that claimed that they had headsets and used them "all the time".

I feel like any mainstream social VR winner will be a good containment app for people who prefer non-anime-style avatars. Part of what keeps me tied to VRC compared to HF is that the overwhelming amount of anime-style avatars compared to the pig disgusting western-style avatars makes me feel more at home. When I have 2 screens strapped to my face, aesthetics suddenly matter much, much more to me.
>>235749376
>on easy
Why even bother? They're brain dead in any case.
The eventual winner doesn't exist yet, just like how friendster, orkut, icq, aim, compuserve, aol, prodigy, internet explorer, napster, edonkey, altavista, ultima, everquest, and many others got shat on by latecomers.

>>235750967
I agree completely, however, I would at least like to see vrchat run Appleseed Alpha, expelled from paradise, Advent Children, Summer Wars, Captain Harlock, arpeggio of blue steel level cgi 100% of the time which sansar's engine and unity in general is capable of but nobody is using.
Once 2017 LTS is live it should be pretty good.
unity is capable of looking like this, and the lush environments in anime should match our avatars - Goblin Slayer is a good example.

I actually liked the direction Nintendo was heading with the Wii. I wish the Balance board would find some use for VR, like a snowboarding game or something. Jet Island would sort of work with that too, it would increase immersion at least if it had an extra front facing map or something.
Then Wii U dropped and it was a meme, switch is neither a good handheld, nor a console, if they didn't have their exclusives, it would be just another oversized paper weight.
I mean, fuck, I have a 1080ti and I've yet to find a reason to move to 1440p/144hz, games and visuals aren't just worth it, VR at least is engaging and there are many ways to be better at games like Pavlov, while skill in CS is measured only by how good you would do compared to an aimbot.
the great thing about the anime aesthetic is that through it the nips have found a way to sidestep the uncanny valley effect. one day japan will have visually appealing humanoid partner robots with physical appearances based on tda miku models like living anime figures. it will be glorious. the persocom age is coming.
>>235752903
only the parts you can tell are cg, when the framerate is lower.
During fight scenes it looks fantastic, but I would bet some bits you thought were 2d were actually 3d. You would be surprised.
All the background characters in Cells at work were cg, and the foreground at times too.
bbk was one of the first anime where I went ... "huh. When the animation isn't being motion smoothed at 24fps, or the scene is stilled, I can't tell this is cg."
The main issue is the movements don't flow like they do in anime, (ironically less frames) so it feels "weird". Cg isn't bad, the way they animate cg is too smooth so it's jarring compared to the rest.
It's kinda like how humanoid cg is uncanney valley but anime is fine, you can do a mixture of the two and it's completely acceptable, even sexually attractive.
>>235752817
BBK BRNK was pretty good

I've grown to love 5-7 for the illuminated iron sights, but if I have the spending money for a handgun past the pistol stage, I always go with the revolver. As a lefty it's a pain in the ass to reload (front loading, lmao), but can't argue with its sheer killing power.
>>235753312
I stopped giving a shit about graphics ten years ago when I first had a capable PC. Does anyone even notice exactly what the game looks like when they're playing? At best, I think 'that looks good' then get used to it within minutes. It's been stuck at the point of nothing being blatantly wrong with the image, but still not looking like reality for a long time now.

>>235752817
That has a coherent art direction by professionals, compared to the mismash of amateur styles in VRChat. Which IMO is part of the charm. Even if there were a social VR metaverse game with a coherent 3d anime style and character creator, e.g. koikatsu multiplayer, I think it'd still feel weird and limiting after a while in comparison.

Yeah, not to mention photorealstic graphics will always be a meme. Stuff like Tales of Legendia looks perfect, and that's a PS2 game.
While some games with realistic graphics look surprisingly good in VR, like In Death, I'm very glad the demand for 90fps/high res graphics made anime/low poly/cartoonish artstyle a good compromise, and we're finally in need for better hardware for reasons other than damage controlling devs that can't optimize their fucking games.
If VR really bombs like those niggers want it too (which can happen if everyone will focus on PSVR/Occulus Go) I don't think I'll ever be coming back to video games. I can barely use the mouse after Vive wands anymore.
>thinking anyone from /v/, let alone 4chan has any power over the videogame industry
>>235753930
this is correct, but the engine update would allow for screen space processing effects that will improve lighting and shaders and texture capabilities to get that level of good in the game no problem. Right now a model of that fidelity would make the engine barf, unity 5.6 even splits 65k meshes. 2017 64 bit can get into the millions, and that should honestly be nothing for a modern gpu.
20 million poly per frame should be a literal cakewalk for a 970gtx even but unity 5.6 runs like dogshit with the build configuration vrchat is using on dx11. I really hope they ticked the right boxes this time (because that's literally all they needed to do)

so true. So awesomely true. Mostly because the themes in anime are unabashedly sex positive and the idea of being "assaulted by ideas" is pretty foreign to japan, though that is fading a bit because we live in clown universe and somehow drawn porn is raping real children somehow.
>>235754548
japan doesn't care what the west thinks of their shit. They've even gone as far as sending a letter to the UN to go fuck themselves.
>>235754360
Is unity 2017 any better at skinned meshes? From my understanding, that's more of a bottleneck than the raw tri count itself, since the CPU has to push all the transformed vertices (from animation/IK/shapekeys) to the GPU every frame.
>>235752519
I understand the option for anime is there, but the fact is that until a community is weeb-leaning at a glance I usually avoid it. While this is no longer as an effective of a litmus test as it was 10 years ago, it's still the first thing I end up noticing when I shop around for places to hobnob.
>>235754187
This is also a factor. An online community is self-policing and good lord do those types love to police.

Eh, you can easily tell those are 3D. Also what do you mean by mesh rendering. As far as I understand, most of those 2D-like 3D faces are made with a lot of hand crafted elements for specific camera angles, that don't work at any other angle which you have with two eyes in VR. Even with actual 2D elements instead of 3D geometry mimicking 2D artstyles, like is done in Live2D Euclid, you get a lot of errors between the two eyes depending on the angle, and it breaks down a lot the closer you are in proximity.

that a misunderstanding - the art is done to mimic camera fstops and depth of field, and one of the things early cg anime was bad at was using camera depth of field to mimic angles used in more artistic shots of anime. The distortion you've illustrated here is exactly that.
The thing is, if you took any single frame of either of those sequences and polled random people, they would not know it was cgi. It's only the animation that gives it away. In fast action, it's impossible to tell. In slow moving scenes, there's too much "tweening" and bbk and expelled from paradise for example added artificial stutter and long stillshot pans to throw you off.
I mean literally mesh rendering: https://docs.unity3d.com/2017.4/Documentation/Manual/class-MeshRenderer.html the work the game engine does on the mesh itself to make it look better, deform, or animate.
This is the MAIN part of a game engine besides scripting tools. The same exact model in unreal engine vs unity with the same textures and shaders still looks different due to the way the engine handles the mesh itself. Same goes for if you for example take your model into blender and render it in cycles. You'll notice the detail spikes dramatically and the surface looks crazy good... due to the way it's rendered.
You can even improve your models in vrchat without increasing polycount by changing some of these settings.
I'm excited, because unity 2017 supports Procedural Mesh Geometry, better quad handling, as well as support for HDR and async textures, better LOD, all kinds of stuff you normally do in post that makes stuff look insanely good if you know what you're doing. It's also got great multi cpu support - things will load way faster.
VR doesn't have to take many more resources to load than a normal game, if you have a 1440p 144hz monitor and can beat that framerate on ultra in any other game you can do the same in vr - it's all about how good the engine is. As usual software lags behind hardware.

This, pretty much. Okay, wouldn't hurt to have more FOV, resolution and better controllers (Vive wands could get away with many more buttons, but overall, current VR is amazing for something that a lot of people refer to as Gen 1.

No, but I havent had any tracking issues and dont have a ton of space anyways.
Does it make a huge difference being able to take a few steps? I could see something like Job Simator being better, but I dont see it making a difference in something larger than room size like Skryim.

Why are animations on by default for people not on your friend list? What is wrong with you, did you get dropped on your head? The devs literally gave everyone the perfect solution to exactly the thing you're complaining about and you come here complaining about it.
Jesus christ do you even read the menu? They put the patch notes EVERYWHERE.

I have like 3x3m space, but it makes a lot of difference to me in Pavlov when I sort of switch to "manual" mode and basically feel exactly like I played airsoft/paintball.
Keep in mind most games allow for 10x10m space and if you have wireless you can go full John Wick. In VRChat roomscale means dancing.

I just block people who pull that kinda shit since they usually have nothing of value to contribute anyways

Probably not. This guy is bitching about what is now a non-issue.
>>235763496
I'm glad PSVR is doing fine and that sonyggers also get to try VR (they wouldn't otherwise due to brand loyalty), so maybe the tech will get overall more recognition, but it's roomscale or bust for me, if somehow all games supported full body tracking, it would be full body tracking roomscale or bust.
>>235763874
That stuff is mostly on the board or in discord. You dont often see people acting like that in meetups.

That sounds pretty awesome. Now that Ive had a chance to get my foot in the door and think its pretty great, I want to eventually build a good pc for better VR, but thatll be a couple years away.

I've been shitposted a ton and never once set foot in the discord. People just love to hate on personalities even if they know nothing about them, especially if they're trying to be popular themselves and see you as competition for social times with people.
That's been my experience. I get tons of positive back and forth here in the thread, and with people when we actually get to talking at meetups, but there's one or two anons who are bothered. Two people who are seen as generally agreeable to the vast majority of people might hate each other's guts, maybe just because of human nature. It's amazing how psychologically jarring relationships made in vr are compared to other social online platforms... it's WAY more like real life.

Actually, the more I think about it, "leader" types tend to clash with each other a bit more. A lot of you are sweet, but really socially awkward and like to orbit witty, funny, talented, kind or "mothering" parental figures, and other assertive types.
Being exceptionally good at the more complicated parts of vrchat development or just being generally entertaining makes people rockstars pretty quickly and they tend to clash a bit. I'm not even sure why.

One thing I've found incredibly funny is that not only is it because there's 300x as many good female models to import, but because in general, people treat "girls" with far more leniency IN GENERAL in social situations that not only do socially awkward anons wish to have the escape from social pressure that being a cute female in vrchat brings, but they start to want it for real.
It's not just the proteus effect anons - it's because most of you are hot blooded men who wanna fuck females. You get along better dressed as cute anime waifus because men treat women kinder generally speaking and women get along better in groups than men do. Primal genetics prevents women from being 100% straight, ever, to make matters worse.
Men don't even get the short end of the stick in social society, they are left asking for a piece of the stick and are told to get their own stick. Women have a two step system. literally:
1)not be fat (sometimes optional)
2)be willing to have sex once and a while
to completely skip the ENTIRE PROCESS of being a participant in a society. That is their only requirement and they will be given a free pass in any and all social and societal engagement and responsibility and are free to do whatever they want when they're working on not being fat and having sex.
I would want that too if I wasn't as successful socially and financially as I am now as a man Vrchat gives some of us a glimpse at that I suppose. Be cute, be fawned over and paid attention to.
>>235762865
>that a misunderstanding - the art is done to mimic camera fstops and depth of field, and one of the things early cg anime was bad at was using camera depth of field to mimic angles used in more artistic shots of anime. The distortion you've illustrated here is exactly that.
Sorry, I think there's a different misunderstanding going on here. I've no idea what the origin of my image was so I should've said it was semi-related to my post. What I meant was that 3D artists have to either overlay 2D elements onto the head, or they have to create weird geometry, because a lot of 2D art simply doesn't work in 3D. For example, side mouths. Or Astroboy's hair. That's what I meant. If you took a depth map of the scene, you'd notice it's highly unnatural. Or in VR. So if the model changes based on the angle we look at it, then that creates problems when you try to view it with stereoscopic vision. I believe this is quite apparent when you try the Live2D Euclid demo on Steam.
However yes, perhaps most people would not find a noticeable difference in 2D vs good 2.5D, and indeed, the problem is more apparent when looking at things in motion. But from what I can tell, it still looks pretty obvious when something is 2D or 3D even in still shots, and only becomes hard in certain shots when they've mixed elements with handcrafted camera angle-dependent visuals, which I believe they do a lot depending on the anime.
With that said, more advanced rendering techniques and shaders will help a lot with making our 3D anime avatars look better in VR, but it won't reach a point anytime soon that it will look the same as 2D or even 3DCG anime. Due to the reasons I talked about, I'm not sure if it'll ever even be physically possible to make it look the same as 2D without a blend of 3D with 2D which I'm not sure is a good or the right approach for 3D perception.
