first for ProTube > virtual stock
deal with it, sour grapes
>>236033273 (Cross-thread)
it sucks ass in h3vr and I would assume so BAM, its only useful in onward which is a ded game
>>236033583 (Cross-thread)
its easier to use sights if you have shakey hands while still being able to use grenades. with stock you're stunting yourself because you will not be able to use those at all and its a pain planting the bomb, and sometimes defusing it,
>>236033907
Second for virtual stock > GoyTube
Deal with it, buyer's remorse
>>236033907
how do the stock cucks change their mags?
Reminder that the butterfly uses no stock at all.
>>236034018
>>236034048
t. never used a stock
>>236034273
i used a stock for a while and went back to vstock because I wanted to use grenades again in pavlov. it turns you into a terminator in onward, and it works there for 2 reasons; grenades are worthless there and the there's isnt wack recoil like in pavlov so it helps out a ton. I tried it recently with h3vr and it was so damn awkward with a stock though, it was only 30$ so I don't particularly mind.
>>236034273
Gee I wonder why am asking about changing the mags then or reloading revolver.
>>236034641
You're not meant to use the stock with a revolver.
>>236034607
what is this nonsense about not being able to use grenades? you very obviously can use grenades unless you are using some DIY piece of shit. same with h3vr, protube can easily mimic any gun there.
>>236034641
cause your question is retarded
you don't use stocks for handguns/revolvers and stocks don't interfere at all with magazines and reloading
>>236033705 (Cross-thread)
>>236033812 (Cross-thread)
Oh my bad, I googled Virtual Stock and there's a company with basically that name so I assumed they meant their product.
What does it do in Pavlov, just give you a steadier aim?
>>236034048
I think with the ProTube you can pull out the controller pretty easily. They sell a magnetic cup now that should make it pretty easy to use other stuff I imagine. I don't know for sure though, I don't have one and I haven't got my VR sea legs good enough for me to play much Pavlov.
>>236034607
This is why you get a magtube. Magazines and grenades are not a problem if you can just yank the controller off easily.
>>236032465 (Cross-thread)
You're gonna wreck so much shit. There's always a clear gulf between stock users and nonstock. There's a dude I always dunked on in Contractors. He bought a stock, now I have severe problems against him.
vstock is big gay.
>>236032918 (Cross-thread)
I mean the demo of the tech was pretty clear. There's a massive gulf of visual quality between raytraced and non-raytraced. Reflections are literally perfect. And again, AMD is creating their own solution to it so it's not like it's not going to be available. It'll be up to developers to use it, but I think as long as unity gets a raytracting plugin I think it'll be popular. I'm 95% sure Mechwarrior 5 is UDK anyway, so RTX support is already going to be there for people familiar with UDK (a shitload).
>>236035183
>clear gulf between stock users and nonstock
I said before, some of the best players in /vrg/ don't use a stock.
>>236035039
it basically locks the stock to the approximate location of where your shoulder should be irl
it doesn't really work well at all, but it helps if you're a spastic who cant stop shaking
>>236035320
good for them?
>>236035320
>I said before, some of the best players in /vrg/ don't use a stock.
This doesn't mean what you think it means.
I swear the sabers are shorter with the new Beat Saber update.
Don't fall for the stock meme. You'll do fine without it just practice practice practice!
>>236035183
Yeah, but the 2080 TI hits 45 frames per second with RTX on. A 3080 TI is not going to have double the performance and so it won't be something that really impacts VR. Pretty much the only stuff you can see RTX is Nvidia's demos and Battlefield V which hasn't been very impressive to me. Reflections aren't a huge visual boon compared to things like higher grade textures and increases to polygons on screen. Most lighting and reflections can be effectively tricked to look really good and greater benefits could be had from resources being spent elsewhere.
>>236035797
Most of the updates are getting reverted based on their dev's post on Medium.
Anyone who says "don't use a stock" is an illiterate noguns
GET A FUCKING STOCK
>>236035807
It only helps with bringing up the gun quickly, while hindering everything else.
>>236036271
>>236035797
Also if you have it on Steam you can revert to the old version.
>>236036347
So it helps you with the one thing that matters in a gunfight, great.
You also have a far more stable view through magnified optics, shots at a distance are much easier.
>>236036271
The updates weren't even bad really, just that the game is already so established that really changing anything like they did causes major problems.
>>236036561
Yeah, I could definitely see that being the case. I actually haven't played the update and only got Beat Saber a bit before the update. I'm pretty weak at rhythm games but my girlfriend is great at them. She's also a drummer so Beat Saber is right up her alley. I'll see what she thinks about the update in the morning.
>>236036526
The gun should already be up. Optics are a meme that you can either use or not, and there doesn't seem to be any learning to use them if you can not already.
>>236034245
A lot don't, jelly doesn't jazkaz does
>>236036935

>>236036935
Unless I'm mistaken, Jazkaz is: >>236034607
>>236036789
>The gun should already be up.
It won't be on target. Target acquisition time is king here, and .1 second can get you killed. THis is the thing that people don't realize about competitive shooting; winning and 5th place can be separated by .08 seconds. In a VR shootout, the same thing applies. It doesn't matter that you got your gun up and on target in .95 seconds. He got his up in .92. You lose.

Are there in game tutorials for Pavlov? What I did showed me how to move around and load a magazine but it didn't tell me about reloading, grenades, swapping weapons etc.

>>236040312
the only bully in /vrg/ is twonukes, who loves making fun of us. anyone who says its just bantz is just too retarded to catch on.
>>236040312
Jelly isn’t a bully target, he’s literally the bully. It just backfired on him and the community rose up against him. There’s a reason why the only people who like him are naive newfags who buy into his victim card bullshit. He is a piece of shit and is incredibly toxic to the community. He has attacked people for doing nothing. He even exposed drawanon by posting PMs of him admitting who he was. He got way too many passes over the year just because he’s retarded. It’s time for some accountability.
>>236038992
a big floofy sweater, not some shitty virginkiller either, that's less floof
>>236040740
Nukes is actually a bro. He’s not malicious and he’s not trying to manipulate people to fuck them over. Plenty of people like Nukes. You just have to not be a thin skinned sissyboy who dishes it out more than anyone but can’t handle it when people dish it out to him, like Jelly.

>>236040113
I've never seen him do anything awful, and only heard others anonymously make claims about it. I have seen the opposite of some intentionally starting shit for no reason, so I'm inclined to believe it is bullying.
>>236040740
Nukes actually being a bully is true. He only comes here because he thinks he's superior to us. His bullying attempts are actually pretty bad, though.
>>236040887
>he exposed draw anon
Wooww what a bully! I bet that's all their is to the story too! Clearly yuki is 100% free from mistakes and jelly is EVIL because he said yuki is draw anon

I wonder who I should believe. We need Nukes back, he’s great bully deterrent.

I don't have a dog in this fight but outing drawanon was really a bitch move. He was so nice to you in his drawing of you, too.

>>236041967
It just shows how much of a scumbag Jelly is. He brings nothing positive to the community and all he does is lash out on genuinely good people. Drawanon did nothing to Jelly. Jelly just had a grudge because Livb left him and got together with drawanon. We’ve dealt with this retard for a year. No one was left on his side for a reason. I guess the newfags just need to get burnt before they learn that this fucker is not redeemable.

Anyone have recommended tutorials for using Medium? The in app tutorial is awful and there's no good way to do rewinding in it.
What experiences have you guys had since having VR for quite a while that have reminded you it was worth it and made you smile?
Nothing from when you first got it please, just recent reminders~
>>236039294
Being someone that breeds in being namedrop already makes him shit. Stews in drama and likes to argue shit and antagonize people while playing up his victim card and even setting up situations so he looks like a victim. All in an attempt to manipulate people into doing what he wants or not wants.
He's a piece of shit. Honestly it would be great if the name and discussions about said piece of shit just gets auto-deleted somehow. And that includes this post.

>>236043146
I was showing someone the First Contact Oculus demo and there's a part where they let butterflies land on their finger and then they have to pick up a cartridge. They went to pick up the cartridge, realized the butterfly was still on their finger and lifted it up and shook it a bit to make the butterfly fly away before they picked it up.
I thought this was an incredibly subtle action to take that wouldn't have been done if it wasn't such an immersive scenario where they really felt like it was there.

You'll never live in a timeline where swarms of anime girls with man voices compete to give Rance totally not gay blowjobs in every meetup while calling him Daddy.
I have a problem with Skyrim VR on Oculus Rift.
When I started playing, after a few minutes on the tutorial I started getting graphical freezes, and the frame that was frozen was off-center, as in I could see a black box and everything snapped to the left for example. This didn't happen on the desktop monitor render, only on the VR headset screens. It snapped left and right, glitching and brainfucking me, while the sound continued as normal.
I restarted, and it put me at the end of the tutorial, so I started a new game. No mods, so I did the cart entrance, and when we entered town it happened again. Its hard to explain, but it looks like the special effects from some B tier sci-fi film when the character is getting a flashback or something. I waited a few minutes, it doesn't stop, and never fixes itself.
I have 8GB of RAM, 4GB of VRAM, and an i7 CPU. While this glitch isn't going on, performance is fine, and the resource monitor looks okay. When the glitch happens, my CPU spikes, even though there is nothing obvious that should be computing at the time. First try was on default settings, second on low, with dynamic resolution off.
Any ideas?
We went to an academy world!

How are you launching the game? I saw a thread where they were launching through Steam VR and then Skyrim VR and had to enable "Enable Always-on Reprojection" in Steam VR. The only real solution is to keep persisting it's like getting on a boat, it just takes a while to get your "vr legs". Try some more comfortable games at first and you'll eventually increase your tolerance.

nope and it's not what you're thinking

Don't play to the point of puking. But do keep playing on the daily wherein you reach the point of nausea for a bit. You should notice you can take a little bit more time before hitting nausea day by day.

Nah, I haven't been able to follow the threads for the past couple days as I got very busy with work. I'm a freelancer so when it comes I have to take it and do my best to turn it around quickly. You can try turning on debugging by going to SkyrimVR.ini and adding this:

and seeing if anything gets logged.

Sad
Speaking of stocks, has anyone used those magnetic ones? I think the biggest problem with the stock I have (ProCuckVR) is how much time you lose get it back in place. Even if I get used to that, it's at least a second before I feel the controller is where it is supposed to be. I think a lot of thet would be fixed with a magnetic ones, not to mention if I had no pole under the controllers, I'd have no problem with reloading anymore.

Triple Triad
10PM GMT Saturday 1st December (Countdown below)
Sign ups are now closed. But we still need reserves! Still let me know if you want to play and you might get a chance if someone doesn't show up.
Spectators are welcome but if we get too many people and the performance is severely effected we may need to ask spectators to use no IK avatars.
Rules:
Closed Hand - You won't be able to see your opponents cards
Sudden Death - For the knockout games only - If the game ends in a draw, a sudden death occurs in which a new game is started but the cards are distributed on the side of the colour they were on at the end of the game.
Deck Builder - Fully randomised decks are disabled. You have to pick your cards which will consist of 2 bronze cards, 1 silver card, 1 gold card and a choice of either gold, epic or a randomised legendary card. If you want to get some decks planned out you can use the link to the world below.
Tournament format:
Group Stage - There will be 4 groups to start with, each group will get their own board to play their games on. You will play a single game against each person in that group. A win will give you 2 points, a draw will give you 1 point and a less will give you none. 2 players with the most points in their group will proceed to the Knockout Stage.
Knockout Stage - All knockout games will be best of 3. The 8 qualifying players will play in the quarter finals, the 4 winners continuing to the semi finals. The 2 winners of the semi finals will move on to the finals and the 2 losers will then play against each other for third place before the finals.

Isn't that strange? You're more free to experience anything than you've ever been, at least in the visual and audible sense, yet you spends your time focused on things so disappointingly normal and social.
What does that say about you anon? No desire to create, not even a desire to search out something new. Just the same human mediocrity you had before the headset with a little immersion. Are you really okay with this being your status quo? Your forever?

Go focus on those wonders then! Or make some of your own, it's not as hard as you might think to make something impactful with VR, the immersion of the technology is a big help in making even something simple feel full of depth.
The best vrchat map I've ever visited was made by an anon, although they never got anywhere close to finishing it. It was pretty much a few shaders and props lying inside a cube that had a few empty floors and music playing.
No other map I've seen has come as close to being a possible expression of someone's mind, even just a tiny slice of their inner thoughts, as that one did. I think things like this are what people should strive for. Why are we imitating reality so strictly when the rules can so easily be bent by our hands to express something more abstract than yet another bedroom to lie in with your fellow anime girls?
Make something anon, something to show others. Something that shows yourself.
>>236062167
Instead of seeing, who do you desire a deeper connection with? Not in any romantic sense, simply those you have a desire to understand. Do you have anyone like that anon, or do you merely have people that you hang around because it amuses you?

I think the novelty doesn't wear off that fast as long as you play actual decent VR games. I've had mine for close to a year and and I still gasp and can't help but be amazed at new things I see in different VR games.
But VRChat for example is just so plain, even with hmd it looks like a really old bad desktop game. Yes the 3D shapes are there but it just feels so empty, flat, boring, low quality...

To an extent it's justified. On the other hand it's virtually impossible to break out of. Most of /vrg/ will not only never approach someone they don't know, but they'll resist others approaching them as well. Those that will approach others tend to focus on whoever is already popular, probably not least because no-one else will reciprocate well. They get so involved with that group that you can't really break into it, either. Not to mention that that consider it nothing more than a popularity contest. If you spend all your time trying to meet a lot of new people, you end up never really knowing anyone, unless you focus on some you already had success with. You either hide yourself in an extremely exclusive group, become an attention whore, or remain on the sidelines watching everyone else do one of those two thing. Here's the other images I have that would help if you actually were an absolute madman and built that world, one more to post in a second that I've saved from other anons posting.
I sometimes miss these days, when we though the next generation headsets would be a giant leap forward.
They've come far, but they're not quite perfect. I really hope valve's is as good as my analysis of the leaked images seems to show.
The perfect hmd, in my eyes:
curved, short throw projected screens rather than lenses and lcd for perfect optics with no god rays and no screendoor.
knuckles controllers.
cheap, affordable fbt trackers included, like the "HiveTracker" project on hackday.
Inside out on the hmd, motorless lighthouse v2 for fbt and controller tracking
Bluetooth 5.0 built into the headset to improve communication between the trackers, and they run on cr2032 button cell.
150+deg fov, easy with projected.
I actually don't care about wireless, make it virtuallink (which btw is just usb-c 3.1 alternate mode, so you can use displayport)
magnetic breakaway cable from the link box.
that would be perfect.

collab in that many hands make short work.
A good room is just 90% good assets... The rest is someone who knows how to do proper post processing and performance render passes on a room and lighting and has the tools to do so. I've always been the one teaching others about unity, there are others better at blender than me but I'm trying to close that gap, I use other software for 3d.
I also have physaudio and some of the other vrchat premium whitelisted packages, but I would be doing it on the new 2017 build.
Also it's a bit of a hack for my brain. By collaborating with anons and using unity's free project system, having a few people to find and provide meshes and textures is a lot more motivating than me doing it all myself mostly because I'm pretty adhd.
Not saying that I can't or won't, but I'll mill it over a bit.

The best one right now is the MagTube upgrade. Instead of having to replace the controller in the cup, the entire cup snaps off nice and easy and the attachment point is nice and big with a strong magnet and a well designed self-indexing slot so muscle memory takes over very very quickly and you're back to the same dexterity as without it. Over-top stock options suffer from not having attachment points as good as the MagTube, and occlusion problems.
>tfw nobody knows about your diaper fetish and how often you soil yourself in front of your friends.

>>236081453
>MagTube Upgrade
noice, I'll look into it.
gentle tip that with the latest steamvr update, if you're on nvidia, especially for vrchat but this helps all games:
go into manage 3d settings and set it to custom.
set prefer maximum performance for power management, set threaded optimization forced on, and set vr maximum pre-rendered frames to application controlled.
this last one is very important, as it causes lag when switching from reprojection to not.
while you're at it, don't forget to set your power mode to windows balanced if you're on win 10 1809. Using High performance is actually bad: it actually locks your cores at the highest non-turbo value, and if you're on sandy bridge or ryzen, or newer, this actually SLOWS DOWN your system. It is also more likely to get hot and throttle.
Using balanced allows your cpu to reach full turbo on some cores, which for vr is very important. On my 2700x with a stock cooler I'll reach 4.39ghz because I don't care about fan noise and have an aggressive curve in my uefi.
Those two things can solve all performance issues for you in vr. SO MANY PEOPLE think high performance power mode is the way to go and microsoft is stupid for naming it that.
>>236079316
baked lighting and proper probes is very important too, occlusion volumes too.
>>236079028
How does this work? I open it and it doesn't take any input. None of the keybinds work and it doesn't show up in vr.
>>236082195
Shit, mine was on optimal power.
>>236082195
>Using High performance is actually bad: it actually locks your cores at the highest non-turbo value
What kinda bullshit is this? That's never been the case. Open task manager or CPU-Z, frequency is always adjusting on the fly, assuming you have Intel's Speedstep (and AMD's equivalent) on and Turbo whatever as well, regardless of performance setting.
Now I don't trust anything you've said.
>>236082628
It should show in the headset. If it doesn't, you need to enable non-authorized applications or whatever in oculus. It also shows on the desktop so you can view from each camera with the headset off and move the headset around to check the boundries.

Alright, nice. Somewhat redeemed with good info, but I have very strong doubts this has ever been the case for Intel CPUs then, given my experience with them over the past 10 years.
Here's some advice I CAN give for Intel users though, and my personal optimizations I can prove help VR with the numbers to show:
1. Go to your BIOS
2. DISABLE Intel SpeedStep, this causes stuttering in some VR titles, like Dirt Rally
VR games generally don't benefit from Hyperthreading either, if you've got a CPU that has it.
>>236082897
here's some more info: https://community.amd.com/community/gaming/blog/2018/08/13/understanding-precision-boost-overdrive-in-three-easy-steps
I'm not sure what intel does anymore with windows power states but I know windows 10 18xx and above introduced some weird shit with pstates for both processors that resulted in ryzen balanced mode having better performance overall. Intel switching in and out of turbo can add latency to, so ymmv. It may not be lowering your VOLTAGE in high performance mode, but it might be doing the cpu core performance flapping.
Unless the core voltage is being adjusted, you're more likely to have heat soak which means your processor will be unable to reach it's highest speeds. YMMV, depends on cooling. Making sure cpu voltage is dynamic is less work for your VRM too, which can lower latency and up stability at higher clocks.
>>236083415
>2. DISABLE Intel SpeedStep, this causes stuttering in some VR titles, like Dirt Rally
this might actually be why you experience stuttering from speedstep/turbo mode.
Windows introduces latency when it's managing the processors p and cc state and vstates - chipset drivers from the mfg mitigate this but they rely on windows balanced (or a custom one they make) to do it. unless you're doing an actual hardcore overclock, you want speedstep so you can hit turbo and keep the processor colder.
Disabling HPET might solve that for you (just make sure you also delete and disable platform timer in the registry in windows too)
>>236083679
That's more logical. It'd be wrong to say that the CPUs never hit their turbo frequencies, but I can definitely see it adding latency. My CPU has been locked at 4.6GHz for a few years now. Seems to fail to boot once every blue moon, but stability never wavers when actually running things.
I finally figured out the game you've been playing with me as well as the people who fell for it before. No wonder you're always being so discrete about everything. We can still be friends, just don't expect me to fall for your tricks again. If you don't get the hint, I'm going to have to cut all ties.

I have never tried to veil any of my actions or my intentions, i have done my best to explain each as they are if you do not realize that then enjoy wrestling with your image of what i am
>>236083954
I think it's very unlikely that your processor isn't sitting at a stable state but is heat saturated and probably at some kind of equilibrium with the games you're playing right now. The boot failure is likely vrm, because you're likely at your motherboard's voltage limit.
Trying things out with speedstep, turbo boost, and windows balanced mode doesn't take 5 minutes, and you might find that when you're doing something intensive, you'll get higher than 4.6 on 2-4 cores, plus you'll have a much cooler, less heat soaked vrm environment putting less pressure on your 80 amp rail on your psu too. I used to do the same as you and just get it as high as it would go and lock it there, but I learned to stop worrying and love pstates once I saw how much more stable everything was all the time.
The massive performance improvements in vr thanks to higher cpu clocks were icing on the cake.
The Forest in VR was much better then I could have expected. Going to try and get a group together today again for more.
>>236084327
That wouldn't surprise me, I do have a pretty cheap motherboard, and sensors tell me it runs hotter than my actual CPU. I've spent a good while trying to hit the highest OC I could and settled for this, so I think I'll just stick with it until it dies.Which shouldn't be too long, since it's been pushing 1.45V on Vcore for about 3 years now without much complaint.

it's pretty interesting honestly, lighthouse, being as good as it is, is a component expensive method of tracking - way more expensive then inside out WMR tracking.
It's VERY good, but the watchman timer uses a soc or fpga that is really expensive at the moment (thanks amtel).
Essentially how it works is by creating an always updating 1.5 MICROsecond addressable array of values that are always available as a "lookup table".
Steamvr basically looks at those addresses to get the current placement state of the 3d objects (you) in the tracking volume, using something that is similar to amd's "latest data latch" and the code is actually factored from it.
There's actually cheaper ways to do it without the reset circuitry that keeps the vive in a consumer stable state - but there's around 900mz and 600ma running through each tracker setup, plus an independent non-bluetooth 2.4ghz soc that needed to clear FCC.
Doing it all with cameras inside out and a imu is probably the only way to keep costs down going forward.

The only noticable trade-off is higher CPU usage since the processing that would've been done in the lighthouses has to be handled by your computer.
The inside out tracking in WMR headsets works well enough for an entry-level headset, but I think enthusiast headsets will keep using some form of outside in.

Way higher cpu usage. Rift uses usb 3.0 cameras that run at a high framerate (it used to LITERALLY be the same camera in a sony playstation eye) and there's pulsing IR in an array on the hardware itself. If you occlude any part of the oculus hardware from the camera in any way, tracking can get janky.
There's actually NO processing done in lighthouse, that's what makes it amazing. The headset just measures the TOF data from the lighthouse that is constantly spraying sweeps of IR around the room and sticks those numbers into a literal table. The computer just looks at those over the usb to determine where the fuck you are. It's way superior.
Windows mixed reality is different, it uses stereo cameras and the same thing that makes photogrammetry work to figure out where you are relative to things it's mapped and recognized around your room using a technology called "bag of words" from SLAM (the same tech used to drive autonomous cars). plus a pointcloud from the ring around the controllers. Those little white lights on wmr controllers work like 3d, so the system can see the controller orientation.

>>236090675
>It's not technically as good as the lighthouses
I don't understand this meme. The rift cameras are using a pretty tried-and-true technique, pose estimation from n-points in perspective from multiple cameras, where the points are IR LEDs in a known configuration. A notable advantage of this over the lighthouse system is that tracked devices can be quite cheap and robust in terms of hardware. Instead of a bunch of expensive photocells and chips like in the vive pucks (one sensor in each little indentation), you just need to power some IR LEDs, and probably an IMU. Much better battery life too (see rift controllers vs vive dildos). I really wish oculus would open up their camera data to third party devs. We would've had some cheap tracker alternatives by now if they did.

IF you're waiting to get a current VR headset because you think there will be something significantly better soon, don't.
>>236091885
They're not though. The photocells themselves are cheap as hell, I know IR leds are cheap too- but constellation works the same way windows mixed reality controllers do and suffer the same issues. Many computers do not have four or FIVE dedicated usb 3.0 ports to handle all the camera streams and then your cpu is fucking ACHING by the end of it. You need a camera for every angle, lighthouse has no connection to the pc at all.
Lighthouse literally uses ZERO, ZERO cpu time. There's an SOC on the hmd that does all the TOF processing.
The only reason why lighthouse is more expensive right now is because HTC are greedy fucks. The new lighthouse 2.0 projectors are super cheap to build, solid state and have no spinning motors. The hive tracker proves it's cheap to make and use these things.
The battery thing is a weight issue only, they could have put one in that lasted months. photosensors use less milliamps then led diode arrays.
We need less usb bandwidth, not more. It's way better to put xyz data processing in the headset than done on the computer to improve application performance.
The rift only "feels" faster because it had ASW first, because carmack is a literal god of 3d gpu programming.

VR is just a big fat logical conclusion of all of that early research and market testing. Software needs to model itself to the input to be successful.

I'm not arguing that lighthouse tracking is shit, I'm just saying that static cameras with optical filters and point clouds of LEDs are still a viable technology with plenty of mileage, and has its own advantages. As a cuckpuck + rift owner, I've noticed the pucks still drift in odd ways a lot, even when the rift controllers aren't anywhere near the pucks. Covering up my monitors with towels seems to help, even though it never affected the rift tracking. A lot more sensitive to reflections.
At this point lighthouse vs constellation is like comparing diesel vs gasoline engines. I'm not going to be autistic and try to say which one is which in the analogy, just that both have their advantages and disadvantages, which extends to the cost and robustness of the hardware themselves, including things like batteries.
I think inside-out WMR/oculus quest tracking is the future. If you want you can think of it as lighthouse-less lighthouse tracking. I think we'll eventually see cameras put on the hand controllers as well, to solve issues with those.
I've found this to be intensely true.
I've used VR on a chronically injured person and they basically ignored their blinding pain for hours after.
>>236092670
Not him but that sounds like an exaggeration. Number and type of USB ports can be a problem but many run 3 Constellation cameras without issue, and from what I can tell, without insane amounts of CPU usage either. Of course Lighthouse is a lot better in terms of USB and CPU though.
>The hive tracker proves it's cheap to make and use these things.
?? The trackers are like more than $100 a pop. It's not cheap!
>The battery thing is a weight issue only
It is? The Vive controller is heavier than Touch with battery. The Vive tracker is lighter than Touch with battery. And the battery the Vive controller uses is like 900mAh while a single AA battery you can stick in Touch is often double that and doesn't weigh a lot. It would seem to me that it's really just engineering/design that held things back. The weight on the Vive controller isn't even that bad.
>photosensors use less milliamps then led diode arrays
That makes sense to me intuitively but is there proof of that?
>It's way better to put xyz data processing in the headset than done on the computer to improve application performance.
Yes it is, but in the end it's kind of the same thing as a lot of functions on a computer that either are taken care of by a chip specialized in doing that single thing, or by just the CPU (most often). For example, RT cores being a thing on RTX cards so we can stop using the CPU for ray tracing. As we near the end of Moore's law, it will be more and more advantageous and profitable for companies to start producing specialized hardware. It wouldn't be a stretch that Oculus could, if they even still want to use Constellation on external sensors in the future (which they may not), to put specialized processing hardware in the cameras.
>The rift only "feels" faster because it had ASW first, because carmack is a literal god of 3d gpu programming.
I think it was timewarp he was responsible for, not ASW. ASW wasn't even on the Rift at launch.
>>236096094
>I've noticed the pucks still drift in odd ways a lot, even when the rift controllers aren't anywhere near the pucks
this is due to reflections. This literally does not happen if there isn't stray IR or reflections.
And/Or, your lighthouses are too far apart.
And/Or, you have 2.4ghz interference, which of course you do because the rift is communicating with the controllers over it. They drift on packet loss too.

Just to be clear, I do agree with both of you. Inside out IS the future for head tracking at least, but the data needed to send that information wirelessly isn't available on a single cable for the controllers AND the hmd, plus we're doing sensor fusion with various IMU in the headset and controllers too, so we run out of bandwidth to get it all on one cable.
I think the final solution will be inside out on the hmd and 1-3 lighthouse devices for everything else that's tracking, your body, controllers, etc.
>>236096481
Link? I'm talking about the Vive trackers though, not the things someone else made which can of course be cheaper. But the same could be said of most products.
look at those top sellers on steam
aside from beat saber and pavlov (and maybe zero caliber) all of those are "experiences" or some other shit, not games
>>236096094
Have you actually used WMR? The controller tracking is fine if the cameras can see you, but there's a limited area where they can. I think the Quest will be a solid entry level solution because of the two extra cameras, but you'd need more cameras on the top of the headset and back of the headband to have what three outside in cameras can already do. I also kinda doubt FBT would work well with that kind of setup.
>>236096987
I was talking about literally putting the processing hardware in the device itself. It will be done, I'm quite certain. It's only a matter of when. Probably not anytime soon.

These little shits. It is a cool project DESU, and the $100 price on the official pucks is a huge markup over the parts, because HTC. I am concerned that only 4 photocells won't be very robust though, especially if you're wearing them on your body. The actual pucks have what, 12 of them in there? A bet an actual FBT-ready puck alternative would be closer to $40 or $50 at least.

It is, but it suffers from being permanently stuck in EA with no content updates to push it from 3 to 4 hours of gameplay. It's probably much more fun if you can go crazy in a very big playspace and wireless.

But all they did was swap the ring from the bottom to the top, the actual handle and stick/buttons are the same. Not as aesthetic I guess, but makes sense if you're tracking them from cameras on the HMD itself.

>but you'd need more cameras on the top of the headset and back of the headband to have what three outside in cameras can already do
I imagine it'll work fine for most games, just like WMR. It's the edge cases like being cute in VRChat that get you. Same with FBT. It's easy to forget sometimes in /vrg/, but VRChat FBT is a niche within a niche. I doubt we'll see any other FBT uses for a while, so hardware isn't going to optimize for it, for better or worse.

I agree that the Quest's camera placement will be enough for most mainstream stuff. The articles I've seen claimed they could never see it lose tracking, and WMR is already fine most of the time. Even that wouldn't be perfect though. You can still have issues in games like Beat Saber if your untracked hand starts hitting stuff it shouldn't. Also, FBT might not be common yet, but if your avatar is more than just floating arms and a head, it'll help a lot with immersion. I think that FBT is the future, and once it starts becoming more common, we'll start seeing support for it in games that don't have an actual gameplay need for it. I'm not saying inside out doesn't have a future, but I'm not convinced it can completely replace outside in either.

social VR needs large range of hand movements for body language. You can't put your hands by your side with WMR unless you look down first. Hopefully the quest is better than that, but more is better and social VR will be the big thing even for the normies. Not this generation, but it will be.
>>236100895

you might be surprised how many normies get COMPLETELY engrossed in vrchat after trying social vr, it's like fucking heroin.
All the "famous" erp fuckwads are total normies and they're famous because they have actual social skills and are witty and funny as fuck.
Joey and naggs and chips and nuts (especially nuts) had literally zero pc gaming experience or even vr prior to it becoming a meme and became completely hooked to the point where it was damaging their normie lives. The RL drama is more entertaining then the fake erp stuff they did.
VR is just like heroin, you have zero interest in trying it but if somehow you do and the experience blows your mind you're fucked.
I know people who would have NEVER developed any kind of issue with their relationship with alcohol or pot if it wasn't for social vr.

then the accelerometer should be working, but maybe the hp one doesn't have one, It should though, the controllers are identical to the acer ones and they work that way. 3dof for position, magnetometer accelerometer for motion in a direction but it's not as accurate. If it's not working outside of the cameras at least for a short time then you're dropping tracking packets or you don't have a modern enough bluetooth perhaps.

1) bluetooth controller should be 4.1 or better and be line of sight to your controllers, be as close to it as possible
2) batteries drop the magnetometer and lower brightness if they're rechargeable and at 1/2 or less
3) any 2.4 interference can fuck with things, including your phone and wifi.
4) make sure you're on an isolated usb 3.0 controller on your mainboard.
there's other things you can try but those are the main ones.

I think I've already done of the suggestions except wifi, since I don't have a way around it. I only really have issues with range, so I doubt that's it anyways. Maybe the Odyssey really does have improved tracking somehow.
I don't personally use touchpad turning, but I thought the menu button ejected the magazine when it was on.
Hello /vrg/, today I have a video for you that shows the state of the art in body tracking research, which has come a long way and might even be reasonable to finally productize. This one is by Intel and unfortunately doesn't seem to have anything yet published other than the video. Skip to 26:20 for the results https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VSHDyUXSNqY
To summarize, the most interesting things they've here is first come up with a method to automatically generate annotated data (instead of relying people to painfully annotate thousands of images) that can be used in machine learning, by using past body pose estimation methods but on multi-camera arrays. They use that data to train another body pose estimation neural network but for a single depth camera view like Kinect (in this case it's Intel Realsense). This results in better robustness compared to trying to do the same thing with a non-depth camera view, and seems to be lighter in weight, being able to run at 200 fps on an i7. Then they optimize the model a bit using a traditional model fitting algorithm and some statistics. They then combine that with the VR headset and controller data for more accuracy. And then at the last step they map it onto an IK body. What you have finally is something much better than the Kinect that's more accurate and robust, that can still track your arms when your hands are out of the view of the camera, and that probably has less latency too. It can also work with more than one camera.

Practice not relying on your eyes for balance. Stand on one foot with your eyes closed and get better and better at it.
Also, imagining you're on a hoverboard when you're using slide locomotion helps some people, that's why windlands and jet island don't make people sick.
Also alcohol helps some people a ton. Being a little buzzed gets rid of vr sickness.
And the esoteric vibrator on the boney protrusion behind your ears actually does work, but you need between 10-30hz to reach your inner ear and confuse it, it's very newly discovered.

Not thinking about vr sickness prevents vr sickness as well, hate to say. You become more acutely aware of your sensitivity when you go into vr worried you're gonna get sick.
Don't give up or you'll gain a psychological aversion to your headset like you do to tastes and smells that made you throw up in the past. For example I can't stand cherry whiskey now - but don't let that happen to your lovely headset.

Thankfully I don't have much. I don't really get motion sickness, but I do start to get a dull headache after about 45-60 minutes so I typically have to take a short break after that. I assume that's just eye strain and it'll go away the more I use it. I'm only on day 2 with my headset. Loving it so far otherwise.
As to what the other anon said about hardware, I'm not sure it it would affect motion sickness much but I have a Ryzen 7 1700X and a 1070Ti that's slightly overclocked to bring it near a 1080 level of performance. I have only noticed frame drops in very heavily populated VRChat servers.
I'm going to reinstall Elite: Dangerous soon to give that a try since it's probably the most graphic-intensive thing I have for VR, so we'll see if that causes any sickness soon

I get pretty bad motion sickness from cars all my life. Any longer than an hour in a car, provided I wasn't driving, would fuck me for the rest of the day. Starting playing VR I couldn't play anything with sliding movement for more than 20 minutes. Pavlov was impossible. Gorn was impossible. VRChat at least had 3rd person locomotion. After a month or so of playing VRChat or other games with teleport I got a bit more used to it. Played pavlov again for about an hour and got so dizzy I had to lie down to stop myself from falling over. After that though I was alright. I still get a bit of a twinge in my stomach if I play something that moves a lot but doesn't require me to move around lots in my playspace. Once I get really into it and am crouching and snap firing in pavlov there is absolutely no time to think about being sick. Sarento or whatever it's called would knock me off balance with the sliding but doesn't make me sick any more. I spent a long time doing parkour in real life so my body automatically moves to counter the inertia of landing which isn't there.
Honestly just play harder. Move your actual body around more and you'll be alright for sickness.

Thanks for your input as well. I think I might just be a little weak motion sickness-wise. Anything without smooth locomotion I'm fine with (though after 45 minutes of Lone Echo I was getting a bit headachy from all the zero G movement) but I think I'm gonna have to build tolerances a bit.
I did a video shoot on a boat once and looking through the camera while the boat shook made me almost pass out after an hour or so so I think I just need to work on it.

Muscle memory is a big part of getting your gun lined up properly for a snap shot. The other trick is to figure out where people usually don't look and go there. Hide around corners and in places where you can step out and see the bomb when they start defusing.

Reviewanon's dossierit's mysteriousstranger
Chad Warden - Aggressive player, arguably the most feared in /vrg/. His preference for cheap weapons like the pump shotty does not hurt his effectiveness, but he is deadliest with a looted AK. Very honed gamesense; do NOT fire your weapon until necessary, or else he will rotate to your position from wherever he was. Walk to bombsites, as he almost never defends from the site itself. Uses flashbangs to deadly effect on offense and defense.
His only consistent weakpoint is that he is usually solo. Has a knack for finding out where you're hiding on a bomb site. Outnumbering him in a hallway is your best bet.
39 - Comparable to Chad. Uses M4/AK exclusively when available, to good results. Almost always followed by teammates because of good communication, but seems to be tunnelvisioned easily, and only looks in the most obvious places when entering or defending. Rarely used grenades.
39 moves his team in a way that 2-3 will always push a corner together, giving you two targets to track at the same time. Retreat, use creative cover and lines of sight if possible to ensure a 1v1 situation. Chances are, he won't expect being fired at first.
Keytar - Mute who's insane with the AWP, to the point where Chad Warden will rarely push a corner with Keytar watching it. No extraordinary skills noted elsewhere Good senses, but not always perfect. Don't expect any grenade plays from him.
DO NOT PUSH KEYTAR DIRECTLY, and never engage one by one. Go for alternate routes if on offense, or move behind solid cover. Flashbangs and smoke are your only true friend. If you must, attack with 2 players at the same time and trade.
UndeadOrb - [Outdated so I'm adding mine in]One of the elite players. Tones down his skill by using subpar weapons and blasting music that can be heard across the map. If you hear his music, you won't hear the footsteps of the entire team following him, and might just end up surprised.

>>236124443
Noice, very noice. Does Keytar use a stock with his AWP?
>>236124443
>it's mysterious stranger
this is libel, I don't do these
>>236124443
2Nukes - Consistently a strong teammate, as he knows instinctively when and where to be during a corner push in order to ensure a trade or overpower a defender with sheer numbers. Uses rifles, but his pistol game is weak. As a player, he can get very upset over losses, but not to the point of ragequitting.
No specialized tactics are necessary. Know that should an enemy play aggressively, 2Nukes will follow closely behind as a competent second.
Snakior - Another pump action enthusiast. Like 2Nukes, has excellent gamesense and teamwork, but is oriented towards being pointman. Is plagued by shitty internet which leads to lag trades.
Listen for footsteps, and throw flashbangs around corners if you must guess if he is walking. His lag will spell death for you even if you shot first.
Jelly - Has a slight affinity to the AWP, but nowhere near Keytar. Will use 5 Sawn Off when possible. Known to ragequit and be emotionally labile. Is currently banned.
Jelly is most dangerous when he is forced to use 5 Sawn offs. Expect him to have no armor as soon as he hits 4000 for 5sawnsoffs or 5000 for the awp. Easy to dispatch, use psychological tactics and taunt him to throw him off game.
Chances are, he's doing his own psychological shitposting in this thread right now.
Buusta - The AK-47 aficionado. Has better aim than Chad does with the AK-47 judging from Pavlov TV footage, but pales in reaction time due to SEA location.
>>236124673

>sonic warfare disadvantage
that's the biggest fucking meme
half the game plays with fucked audio, he can be on the other side of a box blasting his music and it sounds like he's on the other side of the map to those people
he acts like he's one handing a revolver with his eyes closed and getting headshots from the other side of the map but in reality he's using diving tactics whilst masking his entire teams movement and disorientating the game sense of newbie players whilst using """meme""" loadouts which are completely viable in the close range that he uses them
if you're diving positions and you have the reaction speed and you're engaging people at short range dual uzis, dual shotguns, dual revolvers, dual aks literally anything is viable when you've taken the first mover advantage and then pressed two barrels up against someones skull
when the team gets stacked against him to the point his "meme" tactics don't work, usually a sign for other good players they can stop cheesing and upgrade to big boy weapons, he just leaves the lobby
these actions/loadouts count as cheesing
knives (you can only carry four and if you lose them you're weaponless)
revolver (5 shots and manual reload)
kar98 (for obvious reasons)
mp5 (weak as piss and no range)
never buying armor
only buying armor and nothing else
it's just he acts like if he ever picks up an ak47 it's the end of the lobby regardless of who is on the other team and so he's forced to blast music and dual wield shotguns and trade himself for 2 or 3 of the disorientated newbies on the other team by diving places like double doors
Look i'm not saying orb can't pick up a big boy weapon and go at it with the others on the run away on sight list
