People are complaining about others not giving credit to the point where some are advocating that VRChat should add a credits page for every model uploaded so that it will list the credits for every part that was used in the creation of that avatar.

What's the cheapest/most effective means of getting more USB slots? I have enough but apparently my computer can't handle them all having rift sensors plugged into them

The cheapest way is checking to see if your motherboard has extra usb 3.0 or 2.0 headers on it, and getting a mobo to usb A female adapter plate like pic related. They're like $5 to $10 on amazon. Usually they're on a different controller from the back ports so you get some extra bandwidth. Sometimes it's not though, so if you're already having problems with bandwidth, you may need to get a pci-e card anyway.

The innateck pci-e card is the best, check the reviews to make sure people use it with the rift (or check r/oculus wiki). The cards are mostly the same but there are some weird driver issues apparently so the chipset matters. I have the "Inateck PCI-E to USB 3.0 (5 Ports )PCI Express Card and 15-Pin Power Connector, Red (KT5001) ", works fine. Don't get a usb hub, that's just multiplexing over the same cable so it won't solve bandwidth issues. a hub is useful for plugging other shit like mice into your dwindling supply of other usb ports though.

not in an automatic or systematic way. Best you can really do is open two blender windows, crank the shapekey up on model A, and edit the shapekey on model B to match with proportional edit and stuff using A as a reference.

The most automatic you can get is by swapping the actual face mesh from model A to model B. The caveat is obviously then you have model A's face on model B.

This is one advantage of bone-based facial animation vs morph/shapepkey-based. It'd be possible to retarget animations between models, at least to a degree.

The problem is that despite checking connections I have a lot of funky issues, like sometimes it will be working just fine then it will eventually decide that a sensor is getting a bad connection, so i will juggle the ports until its happy again where it will work until i restart

Today I ran into an issue where I'd constantly hear the "usb plugged in" and "usb unplugged sound" randomly, like it's dropping my connections

Try the oculus tray tool. Windows 10 especially does some weird shit with usb power management and turning devices off like that, and the tray tool applies the registry fixes for you.

Also make sure your usb chipset drivers are up to date just in case. you can get them off your mobo's support page usually.

AFAIK you still have a finite amount of bandwidth per USB host controller, all a hub does is allow you to connect more devices to a single host controller. A PCIE card like you mentioned previously would give you more actual host controllers, and therefore more available bandwidth. Hopefully, assuming it's not an issue with faulty/loose cables, that'll fix your problem.

I didn't even know WMR headsets were a thing three days ago and just got one on the cheap. Set up a buddy's oculus the day before I got mine, and while the oculus is nicer I'm blown away by how comparable it is. Expected the tracking to be way worse. Now I'm trying to find games, I got two questions.

What game have you sunk the most hours into personally in VR?

Is Skyrim VR any good? If its just Skyrim in VR I'll grab it for half off but if its a shitty adaptation I want to avoid it. Might just buy it and refund if it before the two hour mark seems shit. I know the Pasta recommends it.

It's all about USB endpoints boys. The bandwidth actually isn't such a big problem.

I actually just started it about 3 hours ago and having a lot of fun, only came off just now to mess around with SteamVR super sampling rather than using the ingame one.
I didn't expect to ever want to buy it again since I owned the original on PC and never cared much, then bought the special edition on xbox one and got all the achievements, but here I am. I was given a steam gift card from my brother so figured why not.

It'd definitely be more enjoyable if I hadn't already completed it and knew what to do but it seems pretty easy to get lost in the world and it looks really good. The first time you leave the tutorial cave after killing the bear and see the outside world it really feels like it should have been made for VR all along

Aiming the bow takes a little getting used to but is pretty enjoyable, though sword combat is a little lacking since you can't just swing and hack away to kill an enemy in a few seconds, it's like it'll only register 1 attack every second or so.

My only real problem is the motion sickness is quite bad if you using the motion turning, though you can mess around with the settings to make that better.

It's because all the attention is focused on social interaction, there is no game to distract you from that most of them time so you're left alone with your anxiety. It's really difficult but the hardest part is simply just showing up. If you can do that consistently you'll begin to slowly get more comfortable with it. Start with just turning up even if you're just mute. Then move onto showing up and saying hello to 3 people. Then build yourself up from there setting small goals along the way.

Most cameras can detect the IR leds, pretty useful when you want to see if they are working, especially when the ones on the back will stop working because of the design flaws on the straps of the rift. My picture wasn't showing them because the headset and controllers were in idle mode

I have a model that has most of its polys in the arms/chest region (one big mesh) but it has the inside torso modelled too. I was told that it's not safe to decimate arm areas, but I have a separately modelled clothing and skin part to the model so I'm not sure what to do here. Can I decimate this stuff?

Vive wireless has been wonderful and I had been recommending it in the thread for a while now but mine decided to completely shit the bed tonight. The last few weeks there had been some bizarre disconnects with the headset that were getting progressively worse. Tonight I kept getting a persistent error in the wireless app that listed the headset as "not detected" despite having paired successfully with the app. I tried pretty much everything short of reinstalling windows to resolve but after power cycling I now can't even get the headset to power on. I'll need to RMA the shitting thing which I'm not looking forward to given HTC's track record.

Don't buy a Vive bro's. Wireless is absolutely magical but it isn't worth this.

As far as new models go you're 100% safe. The chances of a Rift refresh in the first half of the year are effectively none. In the second half there's a very slim chance that we'll get a Rift S refresh, MAYBE with slightly improved screen and optics and nothing else. It won't even be half as drastic an upgrade as the Odyssey to Odyssey+.

I get your concern, the controllers and the cost are the only real downside to the vive. If you're rough or they break the controllers cost a lot and could take weeks to be replaced also.
Personally I just didn't want to limit the tracking options in the future if I wanted to do full body, didn't want to support facebook and thought the knuckles whenever they're released looked realy good so I settled on the vive

We got no idea how much they'll cost. Wands and the Vive cost twice as much as they should simply because it's fucking HTC, and Valve acquired a manufacturing firm several months before the headset leaks. All we have to go on for Valve manufacturing and pricing are the Steam Controller and Steam Link, neither of which are an effective gauge.

I've been looking into using VR to simulate human-robot interaction for domestic service robots (basically robot butlers) without having to use an expensive robot and properly set-up room.

Your setup will cost a bit, look into fabrik ik solvers and try to make a setup that would support several HTC Vive trackers, ideally you want feet, hip & elbow trackers for full body tracking, as additions to the vive wands/vr controllers you are planning to use.

It'll mostly be verbal interaction with a robot moving through a virtual room.

Having the robot recognizing and interpreting gestures would be a later goal, but probably not required at the start.

In other words, full body tracking probably isn't fully required; the VR is mostly a tool to show the user what the robot is doing and to make the interaction more natural than talking to a simulation through a microphone attached to a PC.
