How long do people think the pairing for the speedating world discussed last thread should last for, as well as how many pairs?
Too many people and too much time might make it seem tedious, too short and people cant really get to know each other. At the moment I'm thinking 8 pairs for 2 minutes.

In general it's 3 minutes. It takes roughly 1 minute for both of you to say your name, hobbies, what you do for a living, and something interesting about you. Correct. The IR really screws with the Vive tracking. On the KinectToVR github page it states a workaround but it still caused a lot of tracking loss for me.

Kinect on it's own is not enough to replace trackers though. Unless you can get a unit for next to nothing, put the money away into buying real FBT. You can often fool people into thinking you have real trackers...until you either turn away from the camera, or you try to sit down and suddenly you're a pretzel. Forget about laying down or any sort of position other than standing.

It works only sometimes. I had very limited success with it, while it worked for others. I found the jitter to be awful.

However I started using PSMove controllers along with Driver4VR and that made it possible without gambling if you lose tracking or not. However you're still pretty limited and only able to face one direction.

As long as you dont rotate your torso too much, it should be fine. Especially with Driver4VR which only does Torso/Leg tracking. Can't recall how it was like with KinectToVR as it did not give me good results to continue usage.

On the topic of streamers, we had one get into the meetup tonight and he happend to hear a member of our community USE THE N WORD! He also witnessed some of the glory (shader's blocked) of a certain community member's D-day avatar. To make things word, Ron was watching this person's stream.
It's fine if you're friends with people who stream, I really don't care. Make sure to have a chat with them about not streaming our meetups or to check if they're streaming if they're going to join off of you though.

Best of luck. I found the tracking to be alright when I briefly switched to a 360 since I went from Oculus to Vive. You definitely lose out on resolution/how close you can get to the kinect before it loses line of sight but it'll still work.

The adapters that you plug in to your PC are pretty cheap on Amazon, or alternatively you can solder it yourself if you're adventurous.

There's VR dungeon knight, but it's an one-dev early access game (read: demo). It has promise, but if you actually want a polished game it's like a couple years too early. There's also trickster VR, but I haven't played it personally, and it's another EA 1dev thing iirc. Karnage Chronicles is another EA demo, but has more devs and is fairly polished, just short on campaign content.

One problem i see with complex diablo-style loot systems is that inventory management and stat trees are a pain in VR compared to flat games. I think the spreadsheet simulator mechanics need to be swapped for more VR-friendly mechanics. For instance, right clicking on mobs for hours on end and watching their HP meters drop is fun on pancake, but having to waggle the same enemies in VR is just tiring.

Prior to 2018, most people hung out at the Hub (sometimes the Pug) when they wanted to socialize, and would only go to other worlds when they specifically wanted to explore. It's quite different from avatars, actually. Baking lights rather than realtime lights is the main thing you want to do for performance, as well as enabling occlusion culling. Notably though, you shouldn't try to combine meshes manually and atlas, as it breaks occlusion culling, plus unity will combine them for you in static batching. Minimizing materials is somewhat important, but not as important as an avatar. Expect worlds to have 50-500 drawcalls and still perform fine.
