A lot of remakes of older emo/scene models to add round glasses and pastels exist for the same reasons.

My model I have also has shapekeys to spawn/despawn items, once again is it worth using those or just separating them into variants?

Bear in mind that this goes out of sync because everyone loads the avatar in the starting state. The best way I think to remove the most discrepancies because it will always return to the intermediate state of 2 on the activation of trigger 2 regardless of whether they're seeing state 3 or 4, and trigger 1 and 3 will only work from state 2. If you go straight between on and off, then you'll have some people always seeing the opposite state.

I already have it. It's way too limited. Unless there's a way to add in all the mods that KK has VRoid doesn't even have a tenth of the customizability. The only thing I can really give VRoid is the hair maker.

Yeah, the mmd importer gives you ah armature that imports into unity pretty cleanly, as well as the main albedo textures, and facial animation shapekeys. However, the importer doesn't give you some of the auxiliary textures like normal and AO maps, and of course you don't get the koikatsu shader. I did manage to get more textures out with ninja ripper, but I haven't tried to figure out how to fit them together yet to recreate the koikatsu look in vrchat. Also, the facial shapekeys are annoyingly split across different meshes, so for stuff like visemes you have to create new shapes from mix if you use the koikatsu head. And the scelera aren't concave, so I had trouble with eye tracking bones just clipping the pupil into the scelera awkwardly when they rotate.

So it still needs work to truly import full koikatsu models, but It's a great source of outfits and bodies to headswap onto in the meantime.

the plugin import button tries to guess the file type based on the extension and some other things.
Using the hamburger button and selecting a type tells cats to use the optimized fixes for that file type, skipping that step.

How do I get good eye tracking that doesn't make my pupils sink and clip into my eye whites AHHHHHHHHHHHHH
By default the range is too high so the pupils go into the head, but then if I set the range lower, it just clips with the eye whites instead. The eye tracking thing is a hack isn't it? I mean, instead of doing the right thing which would be letting us put rotation constraints on the bones to not let them rotate further than they should, instead we only have the option to change the relative distance of the bones so that they move less based on the mesh moving around a radius of the bone, which results in clipping on many models.

Why the extra step? Having the VRM exporter in Unity allows you to import the VRM material with all the SHADER settings. meaning you can have it look exactly like in Vroid including the rim lighting. Vroid uses MToon as a shader apparently.
Rim lighting looks nice on lit maps but you may want to reduce rim lighting depending on taste as it really scorches while in dark maps.

IMPORTANT:
Use "cutout" for the materials as much as possible specially the hair, eyes and eyelashes and eyebrows. It looks fine in unity but they will be invisible in VRchat.
Also note that you will have to "reapply" the materials manually as the process of turning unity pmx to > blender adds a different name to the mats. The one from blender will be transparent and won't have the original Vroid settings. This is where you will have to place the materials per piece back.
Will have to find ways to reduce material count as well. Atlasing destroys that nice different shader settings as far as I know. Need more experimentations.


Planning on making a complete image guide since the program is just super nice and enjoyable to use. More people should be using them. For now, the helpful vids above should mostly tide curious anons on this neat little program.
