First for cyber punk event when.

New (or returning) anon here. I'd like to have a genuine conversation about sphagettios with anons here, if that is possible?
My in-game name is TubTub and i attempted to join the /ck/ canned food community before, sometime last year with the understanding that there were plenty of cold spaghettios available to be eaten at any given time (SP / GT / IO). I joined and attempted to incorporate myself into the canned foods collective and you were all welcoming and friendly people in-game, a clear contradiction to the hot-sphagettio-posting on this general from what i can see, which is expected. Despite this positive start i felt there was no canned food 'banter', no conversation and no impulse to eat anything cold/from the can. I ended up at that time watching people with full body-tracking being surrounded by others with sphagettio and other canned food avatars. The conversation was absolute shite and was simply about how difficult it is to not heat up canned foods. It was inherently, boring. It felt like a graveyard of canned food discussion, and in the most polite way possible i did expect more or at least something from a sphagettio community on 4chan but i walked away dissapointed (I should have seen it coming).

Anyway, present day time i've spent alot more time in sphagettioChat and have joined communities and made alot of friends. I now have fullbody sphagettio paste and do weekly canned food events with communities i'm involved with and smaller sphagettio groups also. But that aside, and not to sound egotistical i am interested in perhaps giving the /ck/ canned foods community another shot. in the short time i spent talking to people those that i did converse with came across as good and cold-sphagettio eating people. I have some of you on my friends list after all.

Apologies for the rant and 'Sphagettio spacing' if that's your thing, but i had to ask and make it clear.

Why is it I get the courage up to meet with you people or someone associated but I get cold feet anymore. It's still not really known whether cloth physics affect performance more than dynamic bones. The VRChat developers are bad at estimating the impact, and don't know it themselves. Anyone else /have something to live for/ because of VR? Having been deprived of the necessary-for-hapiness of human interaction and affection? VR saved me from /r9k/ style misanthropy. I thought I was fucked for the rest of my life because of my autism diagnosis but I learned social skills on here that even transferred over into real life.

My Oculus Rift right headphone shit the bed, I fixed it with that cable trick but after contacting support they're willing to send me back a replacement unit while I send mine back for further review, that replacement unit may be refurbished.

Anyone ever had this issue? am I supposed to get my original unit back or do I get to keep my new one? isn't refurbished/second hand kind of disgusting for VR headsets? I'm not a fatass and don't usually sweat too much, yet my unit ends up sweaty as hell most often than not.

I'm having a lot of dreams relating to VR nowadays. Just yesterday I had a dream about playing a perfect Halo VR remaster and I just felt so happy in the dream. It was like, literally the best thing ever. It used ray tracing, and I was playing it coop with /vrg/ friends. It couldn't have been better.

Is it a problem to have a 4K atlas?

My model is UV unwrapped terribly and it seems very hard to fix, so I use Smart UV Project, but that creates a lot of super small UV islands that don't bake properly (some stay uncoloured). I can fix that manually, but I wanna see whether that can be fixed automatically with a higher resolution and margins, but tutorials all seem to use 2048x2048 atlases.

VR is warping reality, for the first time since I got VR a girl slept in my bed with me and I was practically trapped in my bed unsure of what was real.
After a little while I ended up visualizing me and her as being fake and the contact I was having with her being physics colliders which send signals I can feel when activated at different strength levels simulating pressure and different movements and physical size changes being activated by sliders. I was going back and forth from dreaming, being in a waking but hallucinating state and just being awake but I saw it all as if I was in VR. The more of a dreaming state I was in the more the world around me shaped to me just being in VRchat walking around worlds and going through portals. The more I was awake the more I saw the physical world and everything in it as just being computer simulated.
I'm now beginning to accept the possibility of simulation theory, and am beginning to see the virtual and physical worlds as the same thing with the only difference being actions in the physical world are permanent and irreversible.

Did a bit of exploring today. This is my favourite image from the bunch I took.

vrchat tank update: didn't improve anything on the actual tank yet, but I did figure out how to generate explosion forces on projectiles. Gun works by spawning a "shell" prefab that's a rigidbody off the end of the gun, has a Constant Force component on it, animated with an initial burst in the positive Z direction (or however you orient it. That sends it flying immediately on spawn. Then it has an OnEnterCollider trigger that spawns the Explosion prefab from standard assets (particle system, but more importantly, a whitelisted script that adds an explosion force to everything in the radius) at point of impact, and despawns the shell (here giant capsule for testing). Useful, though haven't tested it in multiplayer yet. Probably works as long as the stuff you're exploding has VRC_objectsync physics.

You can do most of the effect with a particle system instead (see jetdogs prefab pack for guns), but the OnParticleCollider trigger doesn't have access to the actual position of the collision, so you can't spawn an explosion force there.

Exactly this! The common thought that one can get the same level of immersion from "bad" graphics just because it's in VR is a myth. Our brains have evolved to be able to tell when it's seeing something real or not, and that includes knowing on a subconscious level when the lighting in the environment is real or not. That idea extends to sound and other aspects of our sensory experience of the world around us as well, as you suggest. It's going to be a big difference no one sees coming, except for "us".

Well, it'll take new hardware, but when we finally get that foveated wireless eye tracking ray tracing varifocal 140 degree 4k VR system, it's going to be glorious. Not yet, but I have several new strategies I want to try for drive and turret controls. I think trigger colliders behave fairly well if they're not rigidbodies in worldspace (IsKinetic or otherwise), i.e. locally translated in the hierarchy. I also found out you can affect the rotations of game objects by sending Tranform.LookAt in a UI Button event, which in turn can trigger from a vrc_trigger by animation events. You can do non hinge-joint-based rotation with that, though I don't know how it syncs across the network.

Right, I need some opinions on this and you guys seem to be most likely to answer this seriously:

I absolutely love the fuck out of social games like VRChat (Gmod Tower, Tower Unite, Second Life) and a fuckin' plethora of MMOs, and I've been playing these since I started gaming in the first place.

I also have a genuine interest in learning about Unity, having successfuly rigged numerous avatars for VRChat so far (and i'm pretty proud of them) and a interest in game coding.


But fuck me, VRChat makes me so fucking lonely.

This is seriously the only game I've felt so alone playing so far, and having had the really great past experiences with social games, I don't understand this at all.

I have a great time playing on the gamemode maps, especially the Murder map, goddamn it's fun.

But the moment I enter a map just for chatting, I feel extremely uncomfortable, and god forbid I end up in a "Never have I ever" map.

This is literally the only game I have this problem with, and even though I love the game so much, I'm considering stopping playing the game as this problem is starting to outweigh the joy I can get out of VRChat.

Has anyone have or had this problem?

Yes, I got the same problem, and I have a theory. I believe it is actually a sort of pseudo-Proteus effect where your out of game unconscious self recognizes that you are in a separate body and concludes that there is something wrong, which is why I feel more uncomfortable in a anime girl avatar then a male avatar or in the avatar of some sort of monster/creature, even though I clearly find the anime girl more aesthetically pleasing.

I've thought about this, and in the past it has been biologically advantageous for male humans to check themselves after hunts and expeditions for things like weaknesses, infections, injuries, parasites, and other abnormalities in order to groom themselves and avoid death. A similar effect occurs when you observe yourself in VR and just see a cute, weak, and vulnerable anime girl. Even though your consciousness can rationalize that nothing is wrong, your subconscious sees a danger and negatively attributes your apparent vulnerable body with uneasiness and fear. A lot of this is based on my own anecdotal emotions but my theory is also supported by the fact that I've never heard of a girl(female) in VRchat have any sort of similar psychological problem, as early female humans did not often venture into dangerous territory where they might hurt themselves as easily.

It is likely that this phenomenon may wane with time as your body gets used to VR and can better differentiate VR from real life (the same way you will feel less nauseous in VR overtime).

There are likely other psychological phenomena at play here, and I'm trying to figure out what they might be.

You don't get the detail in facial expressions required to gauge how an interaction is going, and the IK sometimes creates poses that look more tense than what the player is doing in reality. It gives false negatives. I think this is why some of the popular people seem so obnoxious; they're able to talk a lot without any visible feedback, either intentionally or not, so they're going to annoy at least some people as a consequence. Avatars that smile by default also seem more popular because they don't look bored when no override is active.

The /vrg/ anime was an amazing idea I had while drunk and standing in front of the toilet last night, and it's just as good an idea today as it was then.
The basic gist of it is that I watched the virtual youtuber anime and it was shitty enough that I thought that we could do something about on that level.

So I think the way I'm going to do it is ask people to record 2-4 minute skits and then stitch them together into an anime and see how it goes. Probably also community voting to see which skits people like best.

The range is limited by the resolution of the sensors. 3 meters is the maximum effective range, and that can be extended to a playspace of 4 meters on the side because you'll have redundant coverage from a closer sensor. You will have tracking issues beyond that because the constellation will not be clear to any sensor even in the center.

you drag the model into unity to create the prefab -> materials -> change it to "Use External Materials (Legacy) -> hit Apply and then he gets his textures, but it stays gray for me

you need z-transparency. Try noe's shader on lit transparent.
The issue is a mesh group for "darken" or "doom" "gloom" "rain" "death" face that is reverse normal mapped. The blendshape flips the normal inside out, it's a mmd thing for one sided see through
You also may just need to set the shader to cutout or back culling.

Are there really only 2 grades for avatar performance? My model with dynamic bones enabled is poor, and dynamic bones are literally the only thing that's different from one to the other.

I used smart UV project this time, so locating it visually isn't feasible. I'm doing a proper manual unwrap right now though, so I'll keep that in mind, should it happen again.

vrchat tank progress. I got to a frustrating point today. I built this crank widget for controlling the turret traverse. It's quite satisfying to use in VR. However, the crank breaks as soon as I try to mount it on the turret itself. Something about the OnEnterTrigger events just breaks as soon as you attach the crank to another rigidbody. Hence the table full of cranks in the beginning of the video, about half of them work, and half of them don't for yet unknown reasons.

Controlling the turret traverse with basic triggers does work fine at least (the balls). Feels like a letdown after tasting the crank though. The traverse jankiness as it moves is a matter of tweaking the event paramters. i think I can get it to a smooth enough point, crank or no crank.

I am trying to make a food Item that activates when coming into contact with a player, but for some reason the triggers activate as soon as the object appears either when the world loads or the item is spawned, and then only some of the actions despite being grouped with the same trigger actually activate(Mesh render never deactivates, audio never appears). I have tried multiple different trigger types but it doesn't seem to change much.
This has infuriated me for days testing over and over, the only thing that actually tells me what any of this trigger shit does is a sentence or two on the VRchat website, but that clearly isn't enough.
TLl;DR, is there any decent tutorials/guides that tell you how to actually use the VRchat triggers and actions

I've used the oculus overlay before with a wireless keyboard and mouse. It's ok, but somewhat temperamental and the screens render over the top of everything. If they rendered with respect to the scene, so people could walk in front of it, and could easily be turned off it would be more usable. A real life tablet that could render in VR would be the best solution, I think.

I'm using my Cintiq on the integrated graphics card. It does sometimes get bottlenecked by the maximum of 512 MB fake VRAM. It would probably be better if I just got an adapter for a display port.
