A lot of people seem interested in a cyberpunk event this march and are already working on stuff for it, but no dates or events have yet to be planned and no timescale can be agreed upon from a single day, week or a whole month.

What do you guys think about having march in general be declared cyberpunk month but to avoid burnout actual events are spread out and we have a couple days focused on St.Patrics which is conveniently in the middle of the month.
Once a week each timezone could maybe watch a cyberpunk themed movie, show or anime and maybe to allow for more variety especially if it is repeated annually things loosely related to cyberpunk or perhaps just VR like the matrix can be watched. On the same day people can go about to a few different worlds which fit the theme until they see some other interesting stuff. If the day this happens for each timezone is the same like sundays people who have work that day can join other zones events as stuff is spread out over a near full 24 hours minus a couple ded times.People can casually spend time working on avatars and worlds without feeling the need to rush throughout the month if they didn't get an early start beforehand while taking inspiration from others.

Virtual reality appears to dramatically change how the brain physically registers pain, not just how people subjected to pain perceive the incoming signals, according to a new study by a group of UW researchers.

“These results show converging evidence from both subjective pain reports and from objective brain activity patterns that VR reduces pain,” Hoffman said. Since virtual reality can be used in addition to morphine-related medications, he added, the small but growing number of clinical and laboratory studies showing that virtual reality can reduce pain so dramatically could have broad implications for medical procedures, where excessive pain is a common problem.

Tired of shitty frames and shitty image quality in VR games on your oculus rift, good news you can now have better video quality but at the same shitty frames! For oculus users download oculus tray tool (https://forums.oculusvr.com/community/discussion/47247/oculus-traytool-supersampling-profiles-hmd-disconnect-fixes-hopefully) once you have this installed and launched you will use this to launch oculus instead of the oculus icon. Once you have it open under game settings set the ASW mode to 45 FPS then Set the default super sampling I recommend 1.5x if you have 4-6GB of VRam on GTX 1050ti+ performance, If you are on 2-3GB of Vram I recommend 1.3X. Once that is setup go to “Services and Startup” and set it how you would like it this is 100% your preferences. Once you have this all set up open up Steam VR and next to the steam version hit the little arrow and go to settings. Under settings go to Video and hit the “Manual Override” button for application resolution. Set the slider to 100% IGNORE steam's suggestion this would be if you wanted 90FPS but you will be using ASW to fill in the gaps. Now that you have it set up your game will run smoother from ASW filling in the gaps and will look better due to the super sampling.

VRC_station is whitelisted on avatars now, and you can override stuff in the animation controller too. just stick the component on a gameobject somewhere. don't use the VRCChair prefab, that's for maps only (has vrc_trigger stuff on it). Also protip if you want your avatar chairs not to have a huge 1x1x1m activation area, you can put a trigger collider on the same gameobject as the vrc_station script and it'll use that for activation instead.

You can also use bakery for GPU lightmapping instead, and obviously turn down the texel resolution for really big stuff like terrain. Or even turn it off and use a directional realtime light with shadows. One directional in an outdoor scene isn't terrible for performance, and then you can do day/night cycles, like adventure world.

The true limit of map size is when the floating point error from the transform XZ values starts making all your vertices jiggle around randomly. You can see it at the outer limits of the JAPANLAND map, for example. I dunno what the point is they become visible in unity units, but it's probably around the 10k order of magnitude. If you really need to make your map that big of course, it's better to do tricks like teleport people at the edge of the map to another "layer" at a different Y height, so it looks like it's continuous without running into floating point error.

Also you can only reasonably set the back clipping plane of the camera to like 5k or so before the floating point error makes close up things look weird, so that's another practical limit.

Sure, a directional realtime light will still effectively double drawcalls for everything with the shadows, but you'll get crisp shadows without having to increase your texel resolution and bloat your map size. You can tune the culling mask of the shadows too to not render e.g. avatar shadows. It kind of depends on how you want your map to be experienced. If you need it to hold "the meetup" 30+ person instances, then it absolutely has to be baked-only lighting. Otherwise though, the realtime shadows can add a lot to the ambiance. Alright /vrg/, after talking around to see who is free when and the best time to do things. Yada yada census stuff, found that Wednesday is a good day to host workshop again. Oddly enough, more people appeared to be free all Friday though so I am going to stretch the workshop into two parts. First workshop is going to be on Wednesday, have to work a short shift that day, that is at the end of the day and I should be back early night. Friday is a morning thing, to allow anons time to do whatever they want Friday night, going to host early, then cut things off. The subject of Koikatsu though, the fucking height maps, and repairing the textures takes more work then I originally thought. The Hex required a recoloring of all of the clothing, repairing the hair, and getting the height maps into normal maps. Still got to grind the perfect process to extract the models before making a tutorial. The progress on that is looking good, still porting models to understand the process better. Might be doing some serious sam fusion work, but Koikatsu will dominate most likely.

To clarify, the purpose of the workshop is just freeform group "study time". Just come sit down and work on your shit with other anons. DM Dal if you have scheduling conflicts/suggestions ect. Goin to copy pasta this around.

the 3rd sensor comes with a USB2 extension cable that works fine. oculus actually recommends you to use USB2 because apparently 3 usb3 sensors saturates a usb controller's bandwidth leading to weird issues. For anything VRoid go to booth.pm and search vroid
only full body textures i've found so far are for males but new stuff for vroid is going up every day.

for my face/body textures i've painted away the weird lip and chin shading then just exported the default face and body images and then changed the color in krita and then imported back in vroid hand painted on blush and new lips on new layers

to use them in the textures just create a new layer and on that layers options choose import and then import the images you want to use

Best tip i have for hair is to find a hair model from either an old model or from deviantart. open it in blender so you can freely look at it and move it around and hide layers of it and then try to rebuild it layer by layer in vroid. Don't be afraid to use lots of procedural layers the hair is actually pretty optimized this model with it's 15+ procedural hair layers is only 24k tris.

Oh another good tip for building hair or painting on textures is to go into the General settings tab and then go to the rim lighting and turn it off completely.
The rim lighting is very bright and it's distracting and gets in the way of making your hair look good.

They're using the default shape. But you draw them on by hand and then edit the location points manually to get a good fit while editing the width of the hair past the minimum slider value.

Also note the use of editing the location of the "texture". There's a slider for that as well as the highlight so that it merges with the adjacent hairs.
Also be sure to be a bit generous on where you start the little hair draw. Imagine them always as a piece of strand that strayed a bit from the main hair group it's emerging from. So they usually share the same or close to it "start point" if that makes sense.
