Vive is good for VRChat and Lavender - you'll have to spend less on full body tracking (being able to track your legs and hips).
Vive is also easier to plug in and it all just works.
Downsides to vive consist of higher price for headset alone, controllers being shit, controllers breaking easily and limited access to some oculus only games.

Oculus has better controllers and costs less. Has better customer support than Vive. Downsides are higher cost of full body tracking and Zucc looking at you through the cameras while you're fugging your vrfu

Very TL;DR backstory: I have been on the internet ever since the days of ISDN and have always been a gamer. Nah nothing hyper important. Go for vive if you think you’re likely to want full body tracking one day, and generally it has better upgrade paths and access to the knuckle controllers, which are going to be released on valve time.
Oculus is cheaper and has better controllers but a very slightly worse headset. Mush better controllers.

The oculus quest might be worth waiting for, supposed to release in a couple months. It's an alternative than an upgrade though, since it's standalone only, not PCVR. But it'll be completely untethered, and still have games like beat saber available.

If you know you want pcvr, i'd go with rift at the moment. The headset is on par or slightly better than vive, controllers are far better, and its $150 cheaper. t. riftcuck though, so contrast with >>245923797 .

Buy a WMR, they have better screens and an easier set up. Downside is the controller tracking but unless you are on the extreme they work perfectly for all VR games.

WMR tracking is greatly underestimated, if your controllers are out of the camera FOV they still track because they have inertia units in side of them.

Plenty of people play Beat Saber just fine in vrg.

I can grab things on my back and throw things just fine.

This only applies to the samsung one, the rest of the wmr are missing a important features like being able to adjust the ipd. As far as future proofing goes, vive is best because it has controllers on the horizon and natively supports extra trackers. Wouldn't bother waiting for next gen because no one has much out in the way of details or even really release dates. Currently the samsung wmr has the best headset, rift has the best controllers (haven't compared to knuckles yet), and vive has the best out of the box compatibility and tracking. All of this is hearsay based on anons posts over the months. I only have tried a vive.

To do what things? If it's stuff like avatar hands or locomotion, you should be rolling custom solutions anyway as I doubt they've included some of the more advanced techniques. The SteamVR Unity integration as well. The prefabs are there more for immediately getting started, and learning.
