is worth a watch, the official fundamentals videos. Try to get some muscle memory for the shortcuts and mode switching, camera manipulation.

Then I recommend finding a small project that motivates you, like importing an mmd avatar, making a little prop, something simple, and just getting to work, googling any part of it you don't know how to do. It's the best way to learn. If you don't have a project in mind, you can try one of the blender tutorial series out there, but it's better when it's something personal imo. Well, with the caveat that I've never used a rift, I don't find the vive controllers to be too bad. Once I'm in VR and immersed, I don't really notice them being there.
Setting up trackers to work with the vive is a little bit easier, you'll have a little more setup if you go rift + trackers.
That said, I don't think that it's that difficult since most people don't have too much trouble with them too often.

My chief complaint with the vive wands isn't the weight or how they feel, it's the fact that the trackpads on them die. Expect them to fuck up and/or need replacement after heavy use. Mine are very difficult after a year of use.

Just tried out a hot new meme. multiplayer unity, in VR:

It's a combination of scenefusion, this thirdparty multiplayer unity plugin, and editorXR (formerly editorVR), unity's official but experimental plugin. scenefusion is cool, it syncs the scene state in realtime, so you can drag stuff around and see other people doing it, as well as edit probuilder meshes. Adding/removing objects works too, but editing materials is wonky. I think you're meant to work with unity collab or git or some other tool to sync things besides the scene file, will try that later. Other caveat is that the free edition of scene fusion only supports 2 people, so no vrg unity meetups, sadly.

Also, unfortunately, the other anon couldn't get the editor VR plugin to work, so you just see their camera and what they're editing, but it's supposed to render their headset and hands if it does work, e.g.

as such, unityXR is quite buggy still, took me a while to set up without crashing. The offhand bolt release is kinda odd and feels a bit unreliable. Like, I'd press B, move my hand off the mag and grab the front but it wouldn't release, then I'd be fumbling around trying to grab the mag and not the magwell and press B again a few times until it released. I can't really tell if the magwell has bolt interaction or if it's just the magazine, but sometimes it feels like it releases cleanly and sometimes it feels like button mashing to get it to release.
I tried the Mk17, which is okay. I wish the magnifier would stay locked into the side position and render a few inches farther. The AKM was a lot of fun because it feels like a point and shoot adventure action shooter.
