Over the last few weeks I have seen reviews going back and forth about the Valve index lenses an god rays. One reviewer says it's improved and the other says it's worse.

Turns out they age confusing terms for two different lens artifacts, like someone complaining about lag in an offline game. The two artifacts are glare(think bloom), and god rays.

This is the new version of XWing Alliance VR. 3D has been fixed for the Vive in missions, but main menus and the Concourse (home base menus) are not. There's considerable frame drop when there's a lot of ships on screen, which may have something to do with the fact that the game is a 2003 game on 60FPS and we haven't found a way to push it to at least 90.

Still, it's the best VR Star Wars cockpit sim, just need a HOTAS.

The important points are that the display is clearer on Rift S but the build quality poorer and some people have had tracking issues but it is less hassle without the sensors. Original Rift has better up close tracking, solid build quality and doesn't run as hot as Rift S as it is OLED so more comfortable and less sweaty for active games.

Most people prefer the Rift S just because of the clearer display although this might be buyer's remorse denial. Do what I am doing and just buy both second hand on eBay to try it out, that way you can resell them at no loss and buy your favourite model brand new.

it's actually really incredible for early story driven vr and paved the way for future games like Asgard's Wrath.
It's obviously not as long as it could be, but much longer games like boneworks and such will be coming out soon.
It takes time to develop these projects and headsets have only really been "out" for 3 years commercially.
The "replay-ability" of those games come from it's spin offs.

A lot of people see it from the outside and think it's cringe, but it's actually both interesting and engaging, since anyone can make anything.
It's a giant pile of "vr experiences" and games except you get to talk to and play with up to 40 other people with real positional audio and full body physics.
Even to do something like play cards against humanity or watch a movie, it's a lot of fun.
