Currently have a 1060 and I'm in the market to upgrade my GPU. Is it a good idea to invest in something with a Virtual Link slot? Just tried Into the Radius. It's got good atmosphere but it's beyond jank. Navigating the anomaly fields and gathering artefacts was fun for a while and there's some variety in anomalies to keep you on your toes. The nights are appropriately dark which was nice.

It's a shame the rest of the game is pretty bad. Item manipulation is clunky even when you get used to it. The bugs are frustrating and I lost two empty PMM magazines because they fell through the map after I hit the mag release button. Two handed guns have the worst implementation I've ever seen in a VR game and I suspect it's because the IK is broken. The game is also kind of ugly with plenty of pop-in. Overall It just feels like the game has a good stylistic direction but is a technical mess. It's going to be a hard sell when they expect people to pay for it soon, even with the early access excuse.

Alright anons, it is that time again. Workshop has changed a bit in progress due to the share-screen feature being modified, it allows for less scramble. Audio is adjusted on a per basis, and people tune into what works on others. To just share your screen, open a preview window on OBS and share your work screen. Put OBS into game activity and it will allow you to share your main screen. No Man's Sky discussion has progressed to "why do we even care about where it is put". Going to try and get that shit going, but work has been ramping up due to recent events. Going to browse the wiki and find the optimal system for us to start building in. Outside of No Man's Sky, the Serious Sam pack was fixed, so this Friday we are going to be able to play it. Generally speaking Autodesk is a cunt software that probably deliberately fucks up the compatibility on fbx export to not work properly with Blender. Even if you manage to import normally afterwards it often comes with random bone rotations, missign animations, shapekeys, vertex groups, meshes and all the other really unfun stuff.

Speaking of shooters, any word on when Contractors or Onward are getting workshop support? Pavlov is alright especially on a (slightly modified) config but it's very barebones mechanic and weapon wise.
The other two have a much better weapon pool, attachment systems, gun handling and movement, so why haven't they tried to catch up? There's obviously a market there.

The community servers are geared for as many people at once as possible so no one gets left out. Just a word of advice to everyone new out there trying to join. If you join anyone by themselves and they say to avoid specific groups or certain people, always take it with a grain of salt. Form your own opinions and don't believe everything they say just because they are the first person you meet. Try to meet as much of the community as possible and you'll click with people eventually. There are some really great people here and also manipulative people here as well. I know a lot of you guys are socially stunted or shut in and haven't had many chances to meet a lot of people IRL so you haven't had the chance to develop these social skills that most people already have. As long as you keep an open mind and form your own opinions then you should be fine. Most importantly, at the end of the day VR is a video game peripheral and you're supposed to have fun. Going to lunch but some initial thoughts. Really great keynote with great announcements. Some surprises at what can be done on a mobile chip, and some great looks into what they're doing to advance us on the path to the future. Oculus keeps delivering, even if Facebook grows in influence. Maybe they're not so bad, people need to stop being so pessimistic. If anything, it's probably inevitable that they're going to be successful, and we need to do as much as we can to shape the future so that the direction they go in is as beneficial to us as possible.

That means giving constructive criticism and feedback, not mockingly sarcastic quips. That means going to their feedback website (at uservoice) and putting your feedback in, like functionality that lets us use the software without an account/offline for those who do not want to connect to a Facebook account. And that means possibly even joining their team in order to influence the discussions they have, if you have the skills.

I think we should take Abrash's words to heart, that we're all in this together and we are the ones who will help shape tomorrow's VR. This is the time to build, and this is the time to make sure we're on the right path. No little bit of contribution is insignificant, and we should, by all means, put out little feet in the door.

It's good to keep in mind that Quest's target audience and market size is much larger than the Rift S, so the costs associated are different too. However, despite that, there are still some things that Rift S does have over the Quest, like slightly better tracking, slightly higher refresh rate, lower weight, and a lot more comfort, which is possibly the most important part. I would still get a Rift S, personally, as I have no use or desire for standalone VR.

The only problem I see is handing over data to Facebook. I still don't think we have a good way to handle locomotion without controllers either, but there's plenty of time to figure all of that out.
