You have hitscan, and you have projectiles.
The idea of hitscan is that a gun, or similar object, shoots a lot faster than something that is a projectile. Do rockets really shoot as slowly as they do in games? Probably not. Is a gun faster? Probably yes. You have to take into account how much damage each one does, there's a lot that goes into it.

Quest is a few steps backwards in exchange for low cost and portability. It's trying to move VR from a PC gaming peripheral to a standalone mobile console, and just incidentally locking the ecosystem down under Facebook's control in the process. You can technically skip blender and do simple modeling directly in unity with the probuilder plugin. Can do vertex editing, texturing, etc. No bones or skinning though.

Going from rift cv1 to index, it's marginal. The headset itself is definitely better, and the audio is better, and it's nice to have an extra 3 usb ports, but the controllers are worse, the tracking is the same, and I miss oculus dash a lot. Just got a Cosmos and the headset's not getting detected. Solid right light on the headset and SteamVR isn't identifying it. I've done the following:

>Restarted the PC
>Shut down Steam, unplugged the cables from the link box and waited a few seconds before plugging them back in
>Tried to reboot my headset but I don't seem to have the option in steam; it just says "Please plug in your VR headset"
>Quit Steam VR and restarted the PC again
>Plugged each of the cables into different places (tried multiple outlets with the power cable and USB ports with the USB cable, although this PC only has one DisplayPort so I didn't get to try with that)
>Took the whole thing over to my other (less powerful) PC in another room that I know works fine with a first-generation Vive and I got the same issue

The room scale thing was actually kind of misleading. Valve were pushing for "true" room scale that meant taking advantage of a big play space, but in reality most developers and people took the term to mean just being able spin around in one place with enough room to not bump into stuff when taking a step or two. In that sense, there wasn't really that much catching up Oculus had to do except for marketing, as their tech already allowed small play spaces that most would still consider room scale, but no one actually knew the sensors could be arranged that way and they didn't market it either so people just thought they couldn't do room scale at all.

Not really, the biggest component of that oculus was missing at the beginning was actual 360 not necessarily moving around the whole space. Keep in mind originally oculus intended for you to only face one direction with both cameras on your desk, and use a 360 controller for input. Valve challenged them on that which ultimately got us to where we are today.

I would say it's more complicated than that. They launched without Touch because they needed to (already some content lined up for xbox controller, plus wanting to beat Vive to market, plus wanting to put more polish on the controllers). The headset itself could do 360 itself just fine. But people took that to mean that Touch in the future wouldn't be room scale and so that resulted in more misinformation.

Then the controllers finally came out and they started with a default software setup of two front sensors, but you could actually set them up on opposing sides to get 360. It's just that the software didn't tell you it was supported. Later on, they added software support to label that setup as an actual setup you could do, and the experience itself was also a bit better.
