Ok apparently I was just retarded and didn't enable fixed foveated rendering for the video stream. This lowers the bandwidth and processing requirements immensely. You can see FFR clearly on the edges of screenshot while the center is quite good.

Also figured out the microphone. Apparently ALVR needs restart on every settings change and I might have had wrong audio settings in Windows.

Also holy shit how long the battery lasts on Touch controllers. I've played quite a bit but they're still at 70%.

When playing against bots I noticed none of the frame drop or broken frames which were the real issues yesterday. You still see the game 70ms late though so that gives a hefty aiming and reacting disadvantage. It's not nauseating though. I'm not totally sure how it works but you can move at least 3dof if not 6dof without waiting for the stream to catch up. I guess the headset is doing its own reprojecting. Spinning real fast you can see the blackness getting filled at the very edge of the screen.

4K per eye is a good starting point, the vive's ppi was too low for many applications such as virtual desktop use and seeing fine details in-game.

Yes it is actually. It's one of the more polished games I've played in VR. They did a lot of small things that make it feel real good to play. For example your hands will stay locked to their actual position and if you move them farther out than the rig allows your forearms will stretch so the ik can be solved.
