I tried VLC and MPC, both stop playing video but continue playing audio when I move the cursor with the controller outside of the virtual screen. Tried a Youtube video on Chrome, same deal (for a brief moment I managed to make the cursor vanish and the video continued playing normally, but couldn't replicate it). Tried a game, same issue.

Whenever I try to play normal games in vr none of the different applications I've tried helped with weird stuttering framerate. On my actual screen the fps is fine, but in vr it's all over the place and lot's of latency. I've tried steam theater mode, big picture, and virtual desktop. On all of them the performance was bad. I have an rx 580, is my card bad or is this an issue with how the applications handle screen projections?

you do, honestly. Vive trackers only ever have 4 visible and tracking at most times. Since it's smaller, you can have it occlude ironically less sometimes, because there's less surface to get in the way, you can do things like have it stick out a lot more without being awkward.
remember that the tracker needs to be "in space" relative to your avatar the same distance to be accurate. So, if your tracker balls are 4 inches from the top of your foot, then that's where you should bind in. This is why using playspace mover on long legged avatars works.
So a hive tracker could be above the foot on a stick and still work, making it less likely to be occluded by the other foot, since it weighs almost nothing.
you could have one up high and one low so they never get in each other's way. Or, since they're so cheap, you could do elbow, chest, waist, knee, foot, hand and head tracking for the cost of 6 point tracking, so IK is basically perfect.

I know the point of reloading early, but you seem to miss the point.
If you reload like that, there's literally zero time window where you can't fire at someone trying to ambush you. There is always one round in the chamber, if you time it right there's a split second window before one mag falls down and you enter another, other hand going back to the grip isn't even necessary to fire. You can fight back during entire duration of the reload.
If you reload with your trigger hand, you literally drop your pants down while you fumble reaching for the new mag, and then when you enter it you have to drive your hand back and press the bolt release button. From 0ms time window you're giving to your enemy you go to like one-two seconds where they can do what they want with you because you're literally incapable of firing at them.
Try to find a video of someone reloading with a trigger hand, you won't because it's as retarded as using a handbrake instead of the breaking pedal.

My Rift S has a really annoying issue where the controllers vibrating causes tracking problems.
It's managable in most cases, but Pavlov is unplayable. I try firing a rifle and my gun drifts to aim sideways.

Using the lowest number of materials needed for your avatar without sacrificing its looks is good etiquette, because things add up with lots of people in a room, and keeping CPU load down helps out people on the margins with maybe not the best single-threaded performance.
You negate the perfomance bonus by having even one dynamic bone, but even then, 1 material and 10 dynamic bones is better than 44 materials and 10 dynamic bones, especially multiplied by a full room of avatars.

Just got my rift S last night. Got it installed and way kinda blown away with the intro tutorial thing.


But when I started to play Pavlov, I could only stomach like 45 minutes before having to take the headset off. Went to bed, woke up this morning and played around for another 30 minutes before work. Felt nauseous again, but I think that’s more to not eating breakfast before playing and only having just woken up.


But assuming that I have an actual issue with motion sickness, any advice on training my body to deal with it better? I noticed that the picture in VR can be a little fuzzy, especially around the edges of my vision. Not sure if that’s because I have my IPD set incorrectly or if the lenses aren’t being worn correctly with my glasses.

Hello, I am the train autismo.

Derail Valley is currently the only train simulator built for VR which is actually focused entirely around the task of driving a train and completing various jobs using said train. It has serviceable graphics but handling physics are questionable and while the map is a good size it is obvious it was at least partially generated. Early releases had entire sections inaccessible due to rocks or trees on the track which simply hadn't been fixed. I believe most of that is fixed now but I would be surprised not to find one or two little hitches that end up derailing you unfairly even now. The general modelling of the locomotives is fair, but not great and could certainly stand to be better. Rolling stock is bad if accuracy is what you're after. Despite that though it isn't a bad game and you can get many hours of enjoyment from it. Buy it on sale if interested.

Rolling Line is less of a train simulator and more of a train-set simulator. You have complete creative control over your scene, with free editing of track, scenery, rolling stock, engines, even the tables they are on and the rooms those tables are in. It can be a handful to get used to but it is extremely rewarding and you can while away hour after hour carefully constructing your perfect layout. It also has built-in steam workshop support for easy sharing and adding new parts to your collection. You are fully in control of all switches and locomotives on your line, being able to control both from either a "standing beside your layout" perspective or from down on the ground, which can be a lot of fun, you can even hop into the train cabs and directly control them, though it isn't realistic at all. I highly recommend it if the actual physical simulation of trains isn't what you need.

Locomancer is the same as Rolling Line in that it is a train-set simulator but it is less "realistic" than Rolling Line and more based around the multiplayer experience of building a layout and driving on it. The controls are very convoluted on my Rift but may be perfectly good on other controllers, I cannot say.
The multiplayer integration works just fine and is fun to see other people tootling around on your layout. This is more of an arcadey game in my opinion.

Conductor is barely a train simulator at all, you do travel using a locomotive of sorts but there is no aspect of simulation beyond some basic resource management. The game is more of a puzzler psychological horror style game. That doesn't mean it is bad though and I have enjoyed it.

Now, if we can just get working modern VR in TS2020 or TSW I could die a happy man.

That would be Train Simulator 2020, of which I am a great fan and have thousands of hours in. It may not be initially obvious but you aren't really expected to buy all the DLC, only the packages which actually contain routes and stock you like. European and American content doesn't interest me in the slightest, nor do modern engines or cars so I do not buy them.
