update from this post. After seeing some of the more popular vr games, I'm genuinely considering getting a VR headset now. I'm fighting with myself over getting a Rift S or an old Vive. but I have a couple concerns.

Is the lower price of the vive even worth it? If I going to be going for that price range is it better to just get a Rift S? If I got with the Rift S will I be able to get full body trackers?

there is one good reason to get a vive, and that's FBT. you can struggle to set up some fbt with rift S, but it will be less reliable, more annoying, and more expensive. if FBT is not a must for you (seems like it is though, you're really into it), go for rift s, enjoy better controllers and more recent headset overall.

Bare in mind that the point of the vending machines is less to buy weapons for the level and more to buy items to put in the recycler which unlocks them for sandbox. I made the mistake of buying shit then just tossing it away because I didn't realize I needed to recycle it.

You can toss magazines into the slots of the vending machines to buy stuff from them. Most of the time they're useless and you'll find a weapon within 5 minutes of starting a level anyway, but there are exclusive items you can only find in them.
The final vending machine has the dev weapons in it (gravity gun, spawn menu for campaign, jetpack gun, power fist, and suction cups), which you will probably be unable to buy the first time around. Ammo count is based on all of your high scores from previous levels added together, so for the good shit you're going to have to melee as much as possible and find all the hidden ammo crates.

I got my Index back when they first started shipping, and since day 1 there's been an update for the headset that won't work. The controllers updated fine, but every time I try to update the headset it fails. The first few times would render the headset unusable without a full system restart.

It's official and I thought it would suck at first too because of the cable tangling. However it wasn't that bad at all the map turns you fairly slowly and both ways so your not tangling up in one direction. Now if the custom mappers do dumb shit than it could break your neck but I don't expect this. They've done a couple of weird physics things with the arms that make two-handing a nightmare. You've got a collider on your chest and head and the gun stock will stick to your shoulder a bit. You've got to cant your head over to see down the sights but lean too much and your head collider pushes the gun out of the way.
