If they're poorfag students/kids, they'll get filtered away by price of PC components. You don't need a high end PC to run VR, but most poorfag prebuilts are asking for a bad time. In a sense Quest might be their only chance, but it's also pretty expensive by poorfag standards.

I'm excited for HL:alyx since I have index controllers it's free for me, it doesn't need to be decade defining like HL2, I just want valve to set a new standard of VR so other devs can't be like "it's not possible".

On the topic of being a poorfag, I found this neat little VR game called Guns'n'Stories.
You play as a grandpa telling the stories of the wild west to your grandson and have to gun down goons with the most ridiculous weapons
I don't know if anyone has tried it yet or talked about it, but it's something fun to do and break away from other VR games.

I'm having an issue where my Odyssey+ is recently being registered as monitors 2, 3, and 4 on my computer (yes, as three monitors).
Normally this would mean nothing, but it absolutely fucks some games up and keeps them from displaying properly. It looks like fullscreen games try to stretch across all four even though three of them don't exist, so only half of them display on my main monitor. Changing resolution does not fix this, and a lot of these games can only be run in fullscreen mode. Does anyone know why this is happening?

Making sure your headset is adjusted correctly should help you avoid headaches though.

Measure your IPD and ensure your headset is adjusted accordingly. Check strap fit and try to equalize tension across all straps. The top one is easy to ignore but if it's loose you're putting too much pressure on your cheeks. Use a microfiber cloth to clean off the lenses every time you put the HMD on. Maybe consider getting one of those cloth facial interfaces from VRCover, since the foam can get abrasive.
Stay hydrated, and set up your playspace so that it's well ventilated and at a comfortable temperature.

Far from the worst, H3VR is the one I never expected that I would refund. For a game with so many control options so much is wrong with them, it's a mess. The fun of a shooting range with many guns also didn't last long when they all felt so similar. How to use particle systems to check if an object is moving fast:

No Udon required, works in the current trigger system. Might already been done by one of the vrchat grand wizards but I haven't seen it so here it is. This will test to see if an object's velocity is above a certain threshold. It's just a simple boolean test, it won't tell you how fast the object is moving, just that it's moving faster than a certain speed you have chosen.

1. Create two new layers: Speed Particle and Speed Test. Check the physics matrix in your project settings and make it so these layers only collide with each other.
2. Stick a particle system on the object you want to speed test and put it on the Speed Particle layer.
3. Make sure the particle system is looping, with a duration as long as the particle's lifespan, simulated in worldspace and with transform as the emitter's velocity.
4. Add a burst at the start of the emitter's loop.
5. Add the inherit velocity subcomponent, with mode current, so it gets continuous velocity of the system
6. Add size-by-speed subcomponent. Adjust the curve so it's flat until the very end of the range. Adjust the maximum value of the speed range, the test speed goal is just below this value.
7. Add a collision subcomponent. Set it to collide with world, high quality, no bounce, 1 lifetime loss, send collision messages and only let it collide with the Speed Test layer.
8. Add a new object alongside the particle emitter with a collider and set this object to the Speed Test layer. Adjust the size of the collider on this object so it only hits the particle's collider when it is large (easy to see in the editor)
9. Add a trigger to that new object of type OnParticleCollision and have it do whatever actions you want (like open the door or activate the damage effect or whatever)

They made some missteps with recent marketing. Instead of clearly stating what movement mode is being used in the videos themselves, it's in the video description, which most viewers don't read. So a lot of people assume the game is teleport/shift-only. I would've combined all three videos with title cards in between (Teleport, Shift, and Continuous), and ensure that the IGN gameplay footage was 90% smooth locomotion.

I don't think it'll kill VR if it's bad, and I don't think it'll "save" VR if it's good either. Unless the game happens to not just be amazing, but commercially successful too (millions sold), then we won't suddenly see more AAA VR games. The most we can hope for from Alyx, as far as its impact on the industry, is whether or not people take VR more seriously. If it's capable of producing popular clips like Walking Dead, then public perception of VR will definitely end up becoming a bit more positive.

My only real concern with the teleport movement is enemy difficulty. The preview footage seemed to be showing the player using teleport movement with cover. I am concerned that the AI will be tuned not to challenge cover as aggressively as enemies generally do in flat games.
It was hard to tell if this will be an issue or not from the footage we have. Some enemies did seem content just to lazily lob grenades at the player, but there is a combine soldier that attempts to flank the player near the end of the video.

Alright anons, it is that time of the week again, its Workshop! Switching over to doing these the day of has been less strain in terms of trying to find a good time slot to do it on Tuesday. The focus of todays shop is just going to be finishing up a couple of promised exports. Going to get some bulletpoints written down this time and discuss the current export method in the thread with the first one.

Last week proved that a game like The Forest needs some reasonable time before the Pavlov/Rec Room linup. We ended up barely wrapping things up in game. Hosting a few sessions after work has worked out, and I hope to keep it up. Thinking of starting up some township tale instead, if they push the forest update that adds actual content.
