Yes, it makes no difference. Steam Support suggested I try hard resetting the controllers, and from what I can tell the tracking/input problem still persists. So my controllers are screwed it seems.

Probably an unpopular opinion, but in my experience, I actually like the ergonomics of the Rift S controllers more than the originals. It's more comfortable to hold with your thumb to the side, whereas the thumb rest on the V1 felt awkward to actually have your thumb resting there when you wanted to grip the controllers with some force, since the force your thumb exerts isn't perpendicular to the surface. There also isn't the problem anymore of releasing the grip button and hitting the tracking ring with your middle finger (Rift users know what I mean by this). The new ring placement also means you can get a Knuckles style strap and not worry about hitting the ring with your fingers too.

It still feels like it's made of cheaper plastic and the weight isn't nearly as balanced, but I feel like the new controllers aren't truly overall worse than the old ones. I think I'd actually use the new ones more than the old ones, if I had a choice.

Standing in place with an overhead cable system is good for most things. You definitely need enough room to swing your arms wildly and shift your weight a little bit. Chairs with arms are really limiting. sometimes you'll have to reach into a spot that is physically inaccessible, smacking your controller on stuff feels really bad and the 2nd gen Touch controllers are very fragile. I mostly play standing in a 2.5mx2m area with no problems but I've got several seating options.
