Oculus Go is cheap and light and good for 3d videos, if all you want to do is watch porn it's the headset for you. Oculus Go has no motion controls and no 6dof. See pic related for what that means. VRChat is practically not playable with an untethered Quest. One /vrg/ anon had a Quest and though it was still awesome for him because it's VR, it was very saddening to hear him talk about his experience because you could at the same time see that he missed out on practically everything.

Conference was certainly a VR first. I've never experienced anything like that outside of a few shoddy events in Altspace but this was a way better experience. Definitely can see these being more of a thing in the future. There were a few technical hickups but for being a 3 hour long conference with multiple instance, hosts, and presenters it worked really well. There were 50 people in each instance at the peak and I personally had no stuttering, or low frame rate issues. Everything just werked.
Literally nothing important got announced though. Bunch of fluff talk and industry buzzwords from CEO's, tech bro's, and "Futurists". They did an hour straight on how 5G was going to be the solution to every problem ever.
It really shined in the first talk though where they had a bunch of effects going on to make the slideshow pop out and really emphasize their points.The networking bits were still probably the highlight of the event unfortunately it got caught off short.
Overall breddy gud, made me feel even more optimistic about the future of VR.

Yeah, it is pretty cool just for the experience even if the content was weak. If they had more than a few weeks to put it together, I bet they could've had a bunch of cool actual 3d animations instead of slides and 2d videos. The presenters mostly had full body tracking too, so you could see them pacing around. I don't know what technology they were using for it, presumably vive trackers, but who knows.
Overall, a pretty nice platform. No performance issues either. My main complaint was that the audio wasn't spatialized at all, so people were just talking inside your head. I think the first application that can really nail audio with proper spatialization and directional attenuation will make VR socialization much better, potentially even better than real life since you can mute background noise.

Pavlov is sort of a CS clone, Onward is more like Insurgency. Pavlov has a larger playerbase and a ton of workshop maps, you should still be able to find games in Onward though.

I can't recommend it at it's spiked up pricetag. It's so bad because you're dealing with terrible netcodes and cross-Atlantic/pacific vrg playerbase on top of that terrible coding. It's the only fps game we regularly play each weekend. Contractors has been becoming more popular recently too.
The pubs aren't any better, but the netcode is marginally better either of our community servers. Pubs are drooling retards 90% of the time and you'll have a terrible time if one of the better "proleague" players enters the lobby. Lots of ghosting, lots of teammates who don't buy armor or know how to plant bomb, and you'll also be swifting thru pages of TTT/zombies gamemodes too.
The gun meta is broken ever since Dave buffed one of the cheapest rifles that already does 3shot kill to have automatic capacity, whereas on our servers the aug is nerfed and other guns are actually viable other than AK/M4.
If you don't care for pubs and want to play with friends then it can be worth it, but in the end it's 25$ so it's up your wallet to decide

It will take your eyes a bit of time to get used to a fixed focal distance for everything, look up the vergence accommodation conflict for details. But that's usually more of a problem for up close things, not mid distance. If you can get objects in focus if you try hard enough, then you'll eventually get used to doing it naturally. You can get gunstocks that your controllers slot into, but I just sort of brace the controllers together as best I can. It's pretty jiggly still and I'm shit at sniping, but it's still fun enough; Feels basically like airsoft or lasertag, with zero recoil. How well the sights or scopes work depend on the game. Pavlov irons generally have little green dots on them.
Pavlov also has a virtual stock option, but I don't like it. Worth trying though.

I have both OVRToolKit and XSOverlay. I prefer XSOverlay a lot; its UI is a lot more comfortable to use; you can scale and move windows almost exactly like Oculus Dash, instead of awkwardly clicking buttons in OVRToolkit's menu.
If you can use oculus dash, it's still superior to either OVRToolkit or XSOverlay, unless you really want the specific features they add like a controller-attached window, or the music player controls. If you already have OVRToolkit, I don't think XSOverlay has anything worth buying other than UI polish, but you're not on oculus and you don't have either, get XSOverlay. Both are far better than steamvr's shitty built-in desktop overlay.

Focus is pretty weird in VR because the screen is a fixed focal distance away from your eyes, about 2 meters, no matter what you're looking at virtually. So for gunsights right up next to your face, you still can have them in focus (and whatever you're shooting at) without any eye strain. However, until you get used to it, your eyes will try to focus on the virtually sights, which will actually make the whole screen blurry. As far as the arm muscles are concerned it's really just an imaginary gun. The more you play, the more you train those muscles to hold a ready stance without excessive shaking or getting too heavy to hold. There are virtual stock options which simulate the stock orienting itself to your shoulder so you can focus on holding the front end of the gun up and aimed at the enemy, It's quite limiting in Pavlov but it helps when you're new or need the stability for sniping.
