Crowdsourcing from /vrg/'s bottomless creativity to bring memes and good art for those that would like to do an egg hunting bonanza.

SEND IN a 512x512 texture of your choice and it will be used to wrap a VR egg for the map for anyone to find and complete
Optional: Send in an item to be placed inside the egg.
It can be anything even a sound clip if you so desire.
Within a reasonable filesize.

We'll be preparing an egg hunting map that has picking up the eggs speed you up for a few seconds.
A timer is also in the map if you wanna compare how well you did with your friends to be the definitive EGGKING.

^^Quest doesn't do 90Hz, it does 72Hz, Rift-S does 80Hz, Index does up to 144Hz.
90Hz is alright, it offers good comfort, anything lower is getting a bit too low, anything higher is at this point too taxing to be reliably used in most games, but it makes a difference in fast paced games and Beat Saber.

Just want to pop in with an interesting thing i've noticed with regards to VR performance on my low-end machine;

My specs:
FX-8350
5500
32gb DDR3
Mixture of old HDDs, an SSD and an NVMe, in this case the game is installed on an old mechanical HDD.
Oculus Quest with Link

Despite the amount of (slow) ram and the good GPU as you can see my computer is not a VR powerhouse.

So what did I notice?
Boneworks on steam, played through steamVR on my Quest with Link was unplayable, the performance was too poor to be used, so after a couple of hours trying I refunded it.
On a spur whim I rebought Boneworks on the Oculus store and what have I noticed? The performance isn't "fine" but it is certainly playable, it just works.

So in the name of science I did something insane, I REBOUGHT the steam version, so that I could compare the two side by side.
The steamvr version is unplayable. Something about the SteamVR layer puts my weak system over the edge for this game.

I don't really have a point here but what i'm saying is if your system is old and weak like mine, try to play your VR games without steamVR because for me it is a noticeable performance hit.

This is common with Oculus hardware, it doesn't like SteamVR games, you should play VRChat and every other game with the Oculus native build as it doesn't load extra binaries that would lag you.

I'd be more interested in what Oculus could do if they actually decided to go and make a high end headset. They're sitting on top of a lot of great technology and it's seen in bits and pieces of their products. Off-ear speakers are mostly trivial so they could have that. Then just get the Index screens or Samsung's next gen screens, use their Rift S lenses with superior god ray and glare reduction, use inside-out tracking PLUS outside-in. Use some BCI shit from their ctrl-labs acquisition. Have an optional processing+battery unit that attaches to the back of the strap so you can have a Quest/wireless mode. And there you go. The ultimate headset.

Am I the only one experiencing really janky gesture system recently?
For some reason VRChat decided that I'm apparently in fist gesture 90% of the time.
The thing is I have Index so even during the gestures I have finger tracking so I know for sure that it's not my fault when I can see both hands completly open while at the same VRChat uses fist gesture, I can even do other gestures with both of my hands but the game will still thinks I'm using fist gesture at the same time.
Anyone had similar problems? Anyone knows how to fix this?
Up until now I put fist gesture override on plenty of avatars since I can disable gestures entirely so I don't have to worry about doing it accidentally but now it pretty much makes all gestures unusable.
It used to work fine, it's not a avatar specific problem and both of my controllers work fine.

IMO you're better off with vanilla unity and VRTK or some other VR library instead of restricting yourself to udon. It's not even meeting the playmaker use case of "no coding lmao" for non-programmers. The main draw of developing on top of vrchat is working multiplayer. VRChat spent over a year on Udon and it came out as a disappointment. It's not difficult to offer a comparable product to VRC right now, which is the only force behind VRC's devs at this point.

All it takes is content creators jumping ship, and they have very little incentive to stay with VRC now that it's no longer hot product.

The Pimax has a higher FOV and resolution
The Index has better comfort, headstrap and it has cameras. It also comes with 144hz by default. The Pimax 5k+ currently has a beta firmware for 144hz support, but higher refresh rates lower your FoV a little bit. I honestly don't see the difference of how it's smaller.

I don't have a HMD yet but am researching, but from my research i can tell you for sure it's because the SteamVR infrastructure goes on /top/ of the Oculus drivers, so you need to set aside some compute for what's basically 'emulation'. Someone mentioned the ability to launch the game straight out of Oculus even if you bought it on Steam but the entirety of SteamVR/Oculus Store/Revive/Sidequest etc software bullshittery is entirely black magic for me until i get my hands on an HMD, possibily the Quest once availibility spikes back up.
