Well, to play devil's advocate, it's a lot of work for a small use case. Combined with a fair bit of overhead to set up systems so it's not just all colliders vs all dynamic bones, since that could get into absurd territory.

I do however think it's something they should do, since it's not something that would alter or change in the future, so it's one and done for a really nice little immersion addition should you toggle it on.

So I got to the bottom of my VR performance issues, turns out the strain from Link Encoding was causing my CPU to overheat and thus throttle down to like 1ghz for five seconds as it shed heat, then going back up to full speed until it was too hot again and repeating the cycle, which was why games were running just fine for 20 seconds then running like shit for 5 and so on.

I opened up the case and cleaned out roughly eight years of dust from my noctuas and the problem is solved, hooray.
I should probably replace the thermal paste but i'm far too fucking lazy for that right now, even with the fresh paste sitting on my desk right in front of me. I'll do that once cleaning the dust off no longer helps.

Just make sure the base stations can see each other and the controllers from every position you're going to hold them. Having the base stations at shoulder height is a bad idea because you can occlude them with your body too easily. It might also have set it to one base station mode which can make them track weirdly.

I've never had hallucinations, sickness or derealization from VR and I use it heavily. I've never truly felt immersed though, I'm always aware of the headset, controllers and cord and my room in real life. Maybe there's something wrong with me?

You're focused on the HMD. You're not looking past it.There's a perceptual thing you can do, once you do it once, you get a feel for it. Eventually you can swap between your default mode, and looking PAST the HMD and see the characters. You see a very rough, image to begin with. You have to tape into your own perceptual ability of your brain to make sense of what's before you to feel like it's there, once you do that, phantom touch and being there happens as a direct results.

Look past the screen.
Imagine the monitor is a screen door. Now, look past the screen door. Don't acknowledge the screen door. The screen door effect also disappears as a result of this, and you will sometimes see a weird screen door effect IRL after exiting VR when done properly, it naturally goes away.

Basically, you need to teach yourself to enter VR mode when in VR. My Triggers for entering VR mode consist of adjusting my HMD and FBT for no real purpose other than to turn the switch on.
