Some of it is probably stubborness to admit VR is dead, some of it is probably to show the big bad j man that the thread can keep up being on /vg/ so it's a 4channel community, some of it is probably so there's a gateway for newfags to enter the botnet. For me, it's got to be Trespasser. A game so ahead of its time that it was doomed to fail on the technology available at the time. The arm mechanics, the focus on physics "puzzles", the slow exploration, and gunplay all seem like they'd be so much better implemented in VR. I remember playing it years and years ago and loving the feeling of exploring a lush jungle and the abandoned ruins of the InGen labs. It looks like shit to modern eyes, but I think that feeling could be captured really well with a headset.

Hello there -- I think I need a bit of a rundown of what VRG really is basically. Is this a closed community that you can't get into without knowing someone, basically? I've been hanging out in these circles quite a lot lately and "VRG" seems to come-up rather often which is why I started sniffing around for it. I didn't want to make anyone have to vouch for me if I could avoid it. Sounds like it has something to do with 4Chan possibly which is a site I've never really gotten myself too involved with. That or it's something else entirely I suppose.

I'm just someone that feels left out of things and is trying to get more involved, if you can sympathize with that. If there's any information you can provide to point me in the right direction or anything I can do to prove myself then by all means it would be much appreciated. But asking for "the numbers" is a just a cryptic request to me in my current state of understanding. I just joined the Steam group too, but cannot access the discussions tab it seems. I do recognize a lot of the names in the memberlist though so I do figure this is the right place. If I have to get vouched for then I guess I can ask one of the ones I know best, but I just hate for anyone to be tied to / responsible for me if you get what I mean it's an awkward thing to even ask of someone. But as I said I feel like there's a whole layer of things I'm kinda excluded from as things stand and that just kinda sucks for lack of a better term.

It's not bad, roughly ping pong levels of exertion. It's about the only form of exercise I get these days. Mostly a wrist and upper arm work out, but some of the maps with walls make you squat.

Pistol whip is a lot better about making you move your whole body to dodge the bullets. Shame it's still only like 11 maps.

So I just tried a 3D movie on a giant VR screen and holy shit, I think I just realized why so many 3D movies are so eye straining in scenes with motion. It's because they use motion blur. It doesn't bother you on a flat screen because it's flat and your eyes don't need to change focus. When you have 3D and your eyes are trying to change focus and resolve the depth of an object, and it's all blurry, your eyes are unnecessarily taxed. Why didn't the movie industry or 3D TV industry figure this out? Is it because their level of 3D tech was just too shit to see the problem? I mean I think I've watched a 3D movie in a theater like 2 times in my life so I'm not really sure.

CGI movies can get around this, but animators are obsessed with making their content look closer to real films and include motion blur, vignetting, etc - Game devs actually do the exact same thing to make their games look more cinematic.

Yeah I don't think it's because they don't have better cameras, and I was testing a very CG heavy movie. They can absolutely capture things without motion blur. But even slow panning scenes have a blur on them (I checked frame by frame to make sure). I think it's just because of the other reasons you stated, plus the fact that film makers might not benefit that much from making doing 3D versions perfectly.

I mentioned them last thread but it seems promising. The instance I was in today was less interesting and the avatar issues I had also made me feel less high on the game than yesterday, but nonetheless - I uploaded an avatar and it's mostly working, easy process. Performance is solid. The avatar creation tools give you gestures for each hand and you can assign 4 blink shapekeys which the avatar will use at random, which I thought was cute. It's overall very similar to VRChat as far as I can see - maybe it will have a few features that VRChat doesn't have and perhaps better performance - I'm guessing that will really be the key factor in its success, assuming all the bugs get sorted out.

Hello there -- I think I need a bit of a rundown of what VRG really is basically. Is this a closed community that you can't get into without knowing someone, basically? I've been hanging out in these circles quite a lot lately and "VRG" seems to come-up rather often which is why I started sniffing around for it. I didn't want to make anyone have to vouch for me if I could avoid it. Sounds like it has something to do with 4Chan possibly which is a site I've never really gotten myself too involved with. Really the only problem with the cable breaking is at the little cable holder piece on the headset. It's rigid and doesn't provide stress relief so you should really modify it a bit. I'd use a rubber band. Breaking from the twisting of normal use is extremely rare and you'd have to be a retard to get the cable twisted so badly it gets damaged.

I also hear that the cable stress relief problem is present on Index so I'd definitely do that as well if I owned an Index.

Anyone else using Oculus Rift S and playing VRchat through the Oculus store instead of Steam?

I noticed the game is much more stable and higher FPS through Oculus store, not to mention you can hide your shameful playing of this game by using the oculus store instead.

However I get this weird "ripple" effect, like water, whenever the FPS drops down and when it drops down it doesn't drop 1-2 frames, it drops always from 80 (Rift S refresh rate) to exactly 40 and if I look at my hands they look like ripple. It's really weird to see this and I prefer how Steam does it. I'm really starting to dislike this Oculus headset because Steam just seems like the real way to go, because they are constantly updating and coming up with new VR stuff to boot like the trackers for example. Not to mention Advanced VR settings aren't even available to Oculus, like OpenVR stuff. So I can't fuck around with playspace.

Needless to say my Index order is already been placed but I might not get one until later this year due to the backlog thanks to corona. It really sucks and the only Index I saw being sold here was by some scalper who sold his for 2000€, no joke.

I primarily use the Steam version but have switched to and from the Oculus one. My main issues with using the Steam version are the general stability issues, and in particular big FPS drops after using the overlay, making playing for a long time really annoying. However being able to use advanced settings and custom overlays make up for that in my eyes, and I've learned how to minimise the FPS drops too.
It's a shame that the main issue with the Rift S is the software. I also hate how facebook refuse to help Valve with their hardware - Pretty much all SteamVR compatibility with Oculus hardware has been reverse engineered by Valve.

I just got an Odyssey + and love almost everything about it besides a few minor issues and overhead controller tracking, but I'm getting a weird issue where I have some blue outline that will randomly pop up while I'm playing or if I set the WMR Home detail to high.

The ripple effect and drop to 40 fps is the asynchronous space warp ASW kicking in, where the oculus software synthesizes every other frame to maintain 80fps overall. The LCD panel has more subpixels than the oled panel and there's no diffuser, so probably. I haven't used an Odyssey+ myself though. Index SDE is almost non-existent, but you can pick it up if you're looking at far away stuff that's aliased, mainly almost straight lines and text. Reading subtitles for example. Turning up supersampling helps but obviously need a powerful gpu to maintain fps.

I don't see any demos with more than one of them, but I don't see any glaring reason they couldn't work as trackers. Their paper claims that there isn't any limit to the number the number of trackers that can be used simultaneously, so I don't see 3 of them being an issue. It also says the initial cost to throw one together was $75 though, so I don't really think it makes sense to try making them just to save money. If you just want a project though, it might be fun.
I think they were designed for SteamVR 1.0 base stations, so you'd have to use those instead of 2.0 ones, and you might have to write your own SteamVR driver for them since it doesn't look like they actually made one.

Unfortunately, the VR controls are very disappointing. You are controlling a cursor, not being unable to actually grab things by pressing the grip/trigger near the object. This might be because the game detected my Index controllers as Vive wands, another red flag.
I doubt it will get better anytime soon, so for now VRChat is still the best way to play tabletop games in VR.

Sounds like something fucky is going on in the wiring. First try blowing on the ports and connectors to make sure nothing's stuck in there, both on the PC side and on the headset side (take off the face gasket first and then pull the cable out). If that doesn't help then it's time for an RMA.

This is super common, I get it 3-5 times a week. Whenever you get it, you should do the following:
-End the oculus client via task manager
-Go to Services and restart the Oculus Runtime VR service
-Remove and re-insert your cable
-Start Oculus client again and check in devices to see if your Rift S is detected

I had this shit almost every hour until I bought a powered USB hub.
Basically, my Rift S was giving me static in the sensor passthrough, indicating that the sensors have stopped working, and my controllers suddenly stopped working when that happened. So I bought a USB 3.0 PCI card and even though it "fixed" it, my Rift S started having random blackouts where the audio died and everything went black. The problem was that my motherboard wasn't providing enough power to the HMD.
I bought a TPLINK UH700 powered USB 3.0 hub and now my Rift S works flawlessly.
