You can get IMU breakouts from sparkfun or adafruit for ~$30, they're pretty good for orientation, and if you solder yourself I'm sure you could get the IC for cheaper. positional tracking is still hard though, no IC for that. there's the hivetracker project to make cheap DIY lighthouse-based trackers, but given that i've never seen anyone build one, I doubt it's practically usable.

There was an older avatar that I wanted to upload into VRchat but some weird shit is happening. I set them up correctly (as far as I can tell) and the only errors I get when trying to upload into vrchat is that the height is too small and that my leg joint is like a wrong angle or some shit, but it all looks fine. So I upload it and first of all the avatar doesn't show correctly in my avatar list, it's like a blank empty space. When I tap on it I turn into some huge something because the area is miniscule and I fall through the void and respawn.

I went back to unity and dragged the example SDK avatar to see if I accidentally set my avatar to fuck huge scale but it's perfectly normal scale.

Just got this, playing with an Oculus rift S. Computer is more then capable of handling the game, but I'm running into an issue. Starting the game off, it's smooth as butter, but once I get to the old mans bus hang out (the resting place) the game gets very choppy and laggy.

It's not my computers temperature because I can replicate this instantly. If I exit the bus and walk back the way I came the choppiness still exists. Any ideas?

Shift click the game when running it. Press and hold shift. Then reduce the size of the resolution there and set it to desktop low.

This will reduce the rendering hog of the desktop side of the screen. I have no idea why this overhead still exists when they could've just fed the render of one eye to the monitor. But somehow they still render the monitor separately. So the lower you can get your desktop rendering to go the better.

I had a model shit itself in some strange but similar way. Had to make it again from scratch (which was fine because I updated the base anyway). Whenever I got into the model it was about a metre behind me and my viewball was right on the ground. I thought it was the unity update mixing up the x/y/z values on the viewball but no amount of reimports or reploads fixed it.

Post a pic of your actual model with the body selected so we can see the bounding box (white square around your model's mesh). Your model should be centered and the vrc avatar descriptor component should put the viewball on the midline too. If it's t-posed it should be straight up to the eyes.

Disable everything else but Avatar and Voice, leave those on.
You don't need to see everyone's shaders, it's not like they're setup to be nice looking and pretty. Most people who have custom shaders look the same as if they were using Unlit.

You should also disable everything for anyone who is not your friend, except for their voice and selectively enable avatars for people you're talking to.

Why? Because VRChat does not unload people's avatars from memory, and the larger the filesize of the avatar, the worse your performance gets overtime.

I suggest restarting once in a while as well.

tl;dr hide everything but people's Avatar (don't mute them), only show friends Avatars and selectively fully enable avatars close to you that you're talking to.
Also use the dynamic bone limiter in advanced settings.

Next update hits beta next week apparently, so 2-3 weeks. He said the same thing months ago though so who knows for sure.

Map independent gamemodes will be extremely limiting if they don't allow custom assets to be included. Zombies is probably going to remain a mess, no surprise if it gets abandoned. WW2 update after this one, new maps and weapons with the same Pavlov gameplay is what I expect, not getting my hopes up. Lua server side scripting later in the year could be neat for managing map changes the community servers.

Dave hasn't shown or mentioned anything concrete beyond these things, at best we have a couple of mockups like >>289201551 and weapon/map screenshots for the WW2 update.

it was just a particle-animation-off, good for show but vrchat doesn't allow anything that would be mechanically fun. Just for show, basically just to see who pirated the best particle pack. No pics, because it was in a small alley where the particles took up most of the space, I think.

Quality of life update and more modding options, whatever that actually means to Dave. There's been no mention of preloaded gamemodes in a while so that might be up in the air again but it was said to be coming before WW2. More modding options sounds nice but they still won't let us modify the S&D gamelogic.

Industry is now an official map, reworked and repolished since it's probably going on the Quest version too. Two other maps in development by the people Dave hired, not sure if they're ready yet; Italy theme and a subway map. 'Fixing mic selection config'. More dumb gore. Pavlov TV back in some form. Removing attachments from guns, maybe just in custom map/gamemodes though.
