Alright so I found the fix myself.
In case there's any Vg support readme's out there. I had to completely uninstall my virus detector 'bullguard', I had whitelisted it but it didn't register the installer for some reason despite it saying it did. Additionally, if your computer seem to 'cache' and corrupt the files it sends, you have to use a VPN to another country (I used UK) so the ISP doesn't start to chache on its own.

There's no easy way to find direct model DLs to my knowledge, you have to go through mmd videos and try to use their descriptions to trace the model makers. Not particularly helpful ik but I don't speak chink either, someone else might have better advice. Here is a search for arknights mmd vids:

Focus more on just going through the basic tutorials (both the Oculus one, and then the Steam one), play some of the mini games in The Lab, and then some easier experiences like Beat Saber. We have plenty of events to get models working on, and there is always more to learn, don't spend the quarantine playing just games, space it out and learn some stuff too!

No weekly poll, going to take a nice break from the Friday games as the pandemic has set in some solid patterns, got a lot of input going around for Pavlov recently, and the largest factor was identified. VRC has gone back to being the dominating weekend factor as everyone has adjusted to using it as their only source of socializing with the lockdowns everywhere. Tried keeping to the Friday Night Gaming pattern, but it was clear how many just want to go hang out with their friends in VRC. To avoid the pull of play this or play that, just going to call Friday's a bust until the pandemic calms down. If renewed interest pops up, might reinstate the Friday stuff or have infrequent games, but for now Fridays will return to the ways of old, VRC chillout nights.

Trying out different public avatars in VR will help give you a general idea of how they need to work and move and what issues they might have and you can ask people about how certain parts of the avatar work so you have an idea of what you need to look into and learn

It goes into sleep mode and uses a very small ammount of power to keep it warm. It's safe to leave it plugged in and close the Oculus software

If you ever have any issues with the Oculus software saying the headset is not detected or not working properly, don't panic, the Oculus software is just shit sometimes. All you need to do is unplug the headset, restart Oculus software in the beta settings and plug the headset back in.

Rift S audio is shit but since it's a halo band it's hard to fit over ears on top. Most use the 3.5mm jack and use IEMs or over ears (if they fit). I personally have bent the clip on some Koss KSC75s to fit around the band and have them sit just on my ear. In any case your best bet is to try and see what works well for you.

Be careful using the "random public avatar" world in VRchat. The one where you click the crystal ball and it randomly gives you one of the thousands of published avatars. Occasionally you may get an avatar that automatically crashes your game. Consequently it will become impossible to run VRchat at all, so you will have to go to the VRchat website, log into your account from there and manually reset your avatar.

I tried it about a year ago, and it's much more geared towards vtuber style streaming instead of a metaverse. You're on a small flat plane with incredibly slow movement. You can spawn some props and markers and cameras. The environments are purely backdrops, no collisions, and there are only a few of them available. You can use custom avatars with FBT, but you have to upload them to niconico. Rooms have a player cap of 10, voice chat isn't spatialized, people speak in your head.

First time experience with the Oculus Rift S has been pretty amazing so far - really impressed with the tracking honestly, even without any light houses - tried beat saber and I got so into it I needed a bath when I was done - about to boot VRchat up and see how that is.
This is fun!

Just beat HL: Alyx. Really enjoyed the hell out of it and I'm so happy I got to experience that ending without spoiling anything. Don't have any major complaints, but the grenade throwing was very inconsistent with the force needed for the throw so I'd often either launch the grenade 100 miles away or do a fair chuck and have it land right next to me.

The disconnect with the jumping took me out of it sometimes too but I'm just glad they put in walking at all. All I can say is I'm excited to see where this goes now.

First and foremost - optimization. I can run it 144Hz no problem, it doesn't even seem to phase my PC. VBG has a fuckton of physics shit on everything, first game I had to whip out the 80Hz for.
Secondly, it's more realistic, and has much less resources, you're fully decked out with guns in VBG the moment you touch the ground.
Thirdly, it just takes you to the next game, it seems to automatically start a game every 5 minutes and everyone's in one, global lobby. VBG takes you to some lobby where retards keep changing the votes and it takes minutes upon minutes to get to the next game, you have to sit through a dozen loadings screens too.
Stand Out has more maps and vehicles, however janky they are, bring more variety too.
VBG is trade central. It makes Pavlov's trades look like happy accidents.

assetto corsa is more popular around here if you want multiplayer, and general modability. the VR UI in assetto kind of sucks, but it's just the menus at least, actual driving is fine. pcars2 has better vr menus, but no mods, and nobody here seems to play it.

For steering, try out the vr wheel emulator https://github.com/mdovgialo/steam-vr-wheel/releases . It's much better than a gamepad, though obviously still worse than a full wheel and actual pedals.

Unity worlds will always have at least the skybox as a cubemap, and most worlds have additional baked reflection probes. Standard shader will use it, and most common custom shaders like UTS2 will show it if your material is shiny enough. Most custom shaders will also allow a custom "matcap" cubemap that you specify yourself though.

Vroid's model creation is actually really good. You just need to place a little more thought to make them unique that people won't recognize it as a vroid immediately.

There's a lot of new different skin textures now that you can use as well as ways to change the eye lashes and pupils and the like to make them look different. It has a much lower learning curve than blender that's for sure. It's more of an art tool than blender.

redraw as many of the default textures as you can, pupils, skin, eyelashes etc, this is the biggest difference in making a vroid not look sameface
go into photoshop/gimp and make paths for new eyeoutlines/eyelashes, don't try to do it by hand with paint/eraser, vector paths will save you a ton of time as you tweak it
consider blender headswapping onto a different body base since vroid clothes are pretty limited and the body mesh is nothing special. tda, custom maid, koikatsu are all better bodies than vroid.
take care with the hair, remember it's totally okay to just use vroid as a hair creator, it's the best there is for hair in a non-realistic style. The hair editor can make tails too, just create hair that starts at the ass and once you get it into blender reparent those "tail" hair bones from the head to the hips.
