I bought ultimate fishing sim vr recently and I've been having a lot of fun with it. The multiplayer is pointless, I had a friend buy it with me thinking we could crack a cold one and fish together but multiplayer is literally just a text box in the corner of your screen and a floating nameplate. There's no interaction whatsoever, even the fish are instanced, so this is very much a single player game. That said, the graphics look good but the fish animations are very stiff. I wish they would thrash or turn more realistically. Its an easy and comfy game but it is very much a grinding game, all you can do is sell or release the fish you catch and gear is level locked. I spent most of my playtime in the starting level grinding to level twelve and now that I unlocked all the maps, I actually make more progress in the starting area because the fish are more frequent there. Fighting the fish can be fun and picking the right bait and spot is necessary but I would say the experience overall is fun, but repetitive.

Get it while its on sale with all the dlc, the dlc maps can be played from the start so you're not trapped to the starting level. If you don't like it in the first hour, refund it. The game does get more complex but its all about your gear.

So far the atmosphere is spot-on, it's exactly what I want this sort of game to be.
You can sit in a shitty little room, looking out into the rainfilled night sky through your window, watching the neon lit buildings and shit. Very atmospheric, a lot of fine attention to detail already.

Unfortunately there isn't actually a whole lot to do yet, you can easily imagine how gameplay can be introduced to what's there but it seems they're making a solid framework of content to build things on first.
Flying around is fun. Walking around the rundown shitty buildings is fun. The "clunkers" are neat, I like how they look and move.

1. If I'm making a series of assets for a room, should I be building said assets off on their own file and then link it to my compiled scene later, or just build it on the spot?

2. General poly-count ceiling to aim for in a VRC world? I'm around 50k tops atm at a worst case going by Unity's profiler, but I can lower that with use of LoD models via lazy Decimation. I get over 200fps in the viewer though, so may look more into that once I got more than two rooms fully setup where I'll start needing proper occlusion.

1. Use whatever workflow works best for you. I usually build assets in separate blend files, export to fbx and import into unity to do the composition.
2. If you're trying to do quest worlds, probably <500k tris. For PC, there's really no limit, maybe 20 milion tris practically. GPUs can push 10s of millions of tris at 144fps at this point. Better to build at full resolution first, then decimate/LoD as necessary. don't prematurely optimize. 50k tris is really tiny. most people's avatars have more tris than that, in (possible multiple) skinned meshes.

During bright scenes it was unnoticeable, but during dark scenes it was like trying to peer through the bottom of a coke bottle. In addition to that, on the 12th day of owning the headset, the battery life suddenly dropped to ~1h30m for a full charge. I couldn't even watch a 2 hour movie without having to stop for a recharge, and a noticeable whirling sound could be heard inside the headset at any time from then on.

I might get another Quest. I'm kind of glad I had the chance to experience it and have a better idea on what to look for in my next headset. The convenience of being totally untethered vs. the inconvenience of always having to time play around the limited battery life. The OLED screen was beautiful, but the small SDE wasn't. Etc.

I already miss it. Watching movies in the Big Screen theaters was my placebo for no cinemas during covid.

But these days it's near impossible. Of course, that doesn't mean that there aren't a lot of things I really liked about earlier VRChat as well. For me personally, that would be namely:

- the warp loading screen

Desktop users should have been limited to watching only. They should have rendered like the camera lens, unable to talk, with the ability to hide them or even prevent them joining the instance. Really defeats the point of VRchat when the majority of users don't even have VR.

Friday NA multiplayer games were popular for the latter half of 2019 and early 2020, including rec room and more esoteric stuff like redout. Mahjong weekends were constant after about dec 2019 until the vrchat udon update broke the map.

Assetto corsa on wednesday NA nights have been going on for about a year. Usually beat saber on NA thursdays too.

You can already automatically detect VR/desktop in a few ways, really easily in udon maps and still with a few hacks in sdk2 maps. You could certainly make explicitly segregated maps if you wanted, but it's already an uphill battle making any popular map.
