Just switching your characters gender is boring as fuck. The whole point of gender bender is a male character finding them swapped genders unwillingly and the process of them having to deal with their new bodies. Be it either having to deal with their peers new opinion of them or their new bodily functions. This however doesn't translate well into VR since none of the aspects of having a real female body carry into VR. This is just another "Make a new avatar" event. There has to be context and there isn't any so this event sucks.

How important are Boneworks and Alyx as must-have VR games? I just got a Quest to tie me over until I get a "real" gaming headset, which can be the Index (in October at the current rate of the wait list) or the upcoming Reverb G2. Both Alyx and boneworks are pretty polarizing. You either like full freedom sandbox physics enough to put up with the stupid "story" and lack of polish in boneworks, or want enough polish and story to put up with Alyx's relatively weak mechanics.

When you use Link on the Quest your computer treats it like an Oculus Rift S. Anything an Oculus Rift S can do, your Link'd Quest can therefore do.

Link video compression is actually quite CPU intensive and does introduce some VERY minor delay even in the best situations but personally I love it and use it a lot.

There are also wireless options available but if your PC isn't terribly good to begin with they may not be worth looking into yet.

I use my Quest every day, usually wirelessly through AMD's ReLive SteamVR plugin but also sometimes tethered using Link and it works great for me.

So here's the rub about oculus link. You can use the charging cable that comes with the Quest to plug into your pc. It's a low bandwidth cable though, and the rift software reads the connection as USB 2.0 no matter which port you put it into. While this works (and I use it regularly), it limits the transfer bandwidth which increases compression, AND it doesn't charge your Quest while connected (or if it does charge it, it's charging at a much lower rate than its using, because the battery will drain at at the regular rate).

You can get a higher quality cable that Rift reads as USB 3.0, which will have less compression and also charges it. Oculus sells a 16' fibre optic cable for this purpose, but that's $80. Oculus also recommends a certain Anker cable as one that works for $20, although it's only 10' long. "Doesn't work, only 2.0 connection!"

Besides cables though, there are a few wireless options. Virtual Desktop is a $20 program (buy it in the quest store) that lets you to directly stream the video data from your graphics card to your headset over LAN. This let's you play any SteamVR game from your computer while staying wireless. It's great and what I use whenever my network isn't busy. There may be other programs that offer the same functionality now, but I don't know them.

The Reverb is going to absolutely destroy all need for the Valve Index. The SDE now just doesn't exist because the resolution is too good to matter, it's $400 less, has better blacks, no god rays. Frankly I'm the opposite, the second I heard that the G2 was inside out I lost all interest. Even the Rift S has tracking issues from inside out, I cannot imagine that WMR will be better with less cameras in worse positions. On top of that if you want to use tranny trackers hybrid is a pain, it's incredibly difficult getting the playspaces to line up and you need to redo it every time you remake your playspace.
Perhaps as someone's first headset it would make sense (only if the tracking was decent), but unfortunately Index is still the only upgrade for people with existing VR.

I'd pay for b&s and boneworks. Boneworks is prime jank, but it has interesting setting and allows you to do lots of fun stuff if you're into this particular kind of gameplay where you have lots of freedom and you can break shit i've beaten the game thrice and i'm still not sure how to solve certain puzzles, i only know weird ass game-breaking workarounds i've been using to solve them, plus trying to get to weird places by climbing makes up for a nice modern take on platforming. Combat isn't that horrible either. Recent B&S update broke performance to the point where it's barely playable even on semi-decent modern PC, so i'd recommend to pirate it out of spite, but on the other hand it's probably my favorite VR game. AI is shit, but you can get really creative with combat, so fun is there to be had. Guess there's no harm in pirating it and checking if it's your thing, since this kind of jank-fueled gameplay is a love or hate thing.

Pavlov is great, and it's top fun to play with people here. Definitely get it.

Just takes practice. If you're the type of person that enjoys practicing the same songs over and over, with stuff like slower song enabled at first, then you're set, enjoy the light cardio. If that sounds dumb to you, then my advice is to install side quest so you can get custom songs for a lot more variety. Still need to put in the hours, but at least you can enjoy many different songs and still get in that cardio. I rarely play songs more than once a session now, but I have a rotation of about 15 songs that I'm not quite able to beat, or enjoy them enough just to play through them again.
