Is it moving you backwards when you hold your thumb on a thumbstick, or only after you'll let it off? If it's after you let it off, it might just be some dirt: thumbstick rebounds back, moves a tiny bit backwards from the spring motion, and gets stuck in the opposite position. Wiggle it around a lot, be a bit rough with it, pull it a bit while moving it from side to side, check if you can clean it somehow, see if it helps.

If it moves you backwards when you move it forward and you're sure that you're actually moving it forward, it's probably a different issue.

I get what you're talking about, but "real" guns are closer to Airsoft than Pavlov's bursts that make your gun point at the ceiling. Realistic gun noises would just be bad game design, unless you had everyone wear earpro and make convincing "muffled" noises.
Pavlov's arcade, and it's alright, but I think Onward's and H3VR are much closer to satisfying gunplay, because guns are deadly. Onward's handguns are much more fun to use than Pavlov's. The ones that do control well are all peashooters, or overnerfed into hell like P90.

Just take a minute to shoot at at the range, at a 10m target, without bothering to do recoil management. Half of the guns will put holes in the ceiling after the initial couple of shots (other than based AUG, thanks Dave).
Pavlov in general feels kind of like pic rel. I'm starting to think it's impossible to make anything better with current tech though. VR ends up being flat FPS with extra steps, and that's how people play it too (v.stock, artificial turning and locomotion over IRL turning and locomotion).

Pavlov's biggest problem is movement and how lazy it is all around. V-stock functions like a cheat where it could have been a gameplay mechanic and function like in H3VR (works when you actually shoulder the fucking gun). It would be easier to balance the weapons around how they handle if
a) they're shouldered or not
b)you're moving or not

I've got a GTX 980 and the Index with full body.
Games runs usually pretty fine without any issue.
If you pass by a mirror however it usually hiccups for a few seconds before smoothing out.
Also best not to be in any room with 30+ people.
Once in a while the game will run like ass but restarting the game itself seems to fix that.

Honestly I think you'll be fine. The 980 isn't THAT much better than the 970 and Quest is running at a lower resolution than the index.

I've got a few other VR games as well so let me know if you want a performance rundown on any.
(Assuming you have a decent CPU since some of these are not that optimized)

It has been a long fun ride with all of you, the friends made and experiences I will never forget, however much like luud, hero, neg, nevel, and many others. I just cant do it anymore, its the most painful thing to see this community start as a small group wandering vr and making bonds on the way, we grew at such a rate that i never thought would be possible, Valentines came I got my headset and I felt from there that this community was going to be a home for me for quite some time. And it was, now i sit here wondering where i went wrong with all of you. I apologize abrout freaking out about the terraria discord, I just knew from there that things were only going to get worse from there on out. and it did, now we sit in a community that embraces cancer, outsiders, underage kids, and teenshitter influence. I never thought i would have to endure seeing such cancers dismantle the very unity we had in the beginning, now we are over shadowed by smear campaigning, manipulation, and corrupting users that only seeked out acceptance. I should have taken the signs while i was still filled with hope, and ran. Now i will never be able to show my face to this community. For those that still enjoyed my company and did not lose hope in me, i am sorry i have to leave on such a note, I just cant take the cancer and manipulation anymore. I only wanted to see the best for /vrg/.

This being said /vrg/, I hope the new arch will bring better results, and perhaps some time in the future i will visit, and maybe not die inside. Yuru i hope you make the right choices.

Depends on the situation though.
If they're a floater I think they look stupid unless their avatar is literally a flying one.
If they're trying to be seemless with the environment with playspace mover then it depends on context.

U7 of B&S was flawless.
The new update 8 however took a LOT out of it performance wise.
While the latest patch did help immensely when it comes playing the game still lags like a bitch even at low performance.
You'll be able to play on the "Arena" map pretty decently but anything else and you'll get hiccups and enough interactions that you'll notice them and ruin your immersion and experience.
Supposedly they're working things out and it'll get better in time so yeah....limited game for now till they fix things.

I actually haven't played H3 cause the sandbox shooter style was "Eh" in appealing to me. Sure you have a game mode where you can shoot hotdogs but I dunno.
I opted for Pavlov cause of the higher player count and well...multiplayer. Plus all the game modes available.
While I don't know how H3 runs, Pavlov runs completely flawless without issue.

How would you make a game like Pandemic work with VR gameplay?

Does anyone know if H3 has better Index controller support yet? I bought it a long while ago and refunded it back when I got my Index because it did not have the proper in-game controller models, trying to interact with the weapons felt finicky as hell, and I kept bumping my controllers together trying to manipulate the different gun parts.

I think that of all the events I've run, the pavlov world war is probably the most unsuccessful. Overall people took it several orders of magnitude more seriously than was my intention. I wanted it to be a fun friendly competition and intentionally designed the format the be as non-competitive as possible.
Some people did try to have fun with it, but overall it was way more tryhard than I intended. most of the memes were shit talk and once it had taken place many of the winners were smug cunts and the losers were whiny crybabies.

The tone was way off from what I intended and it was one of the few events I've done where I think it left the community worse off for it having happened. I don't really suggest going down that road again.

You get a sense of presence with your buds, plus, they are using positional audio whereas the movie isn't: the positional audio makes it feel like someone in the room is talking to you so its easier to concentrate on whatever's playing on the screen. With discord and other voice programs, the person's voice sounds like its just blasting into your ears and its distracting for me.

Is there not a way to check package filesize of your avatar before uploading it? My model FBX is 2.5mb, and with crunch on all the textures, that adds another 2mb. The upload process makes it feel like the whole thing is 20mb in the end though going by my upload speed. I have that future-prep option turned off also.

Pretty much, in the case of using brands on your avatar. Brands kinda have a demographic they market too. And people will form their opinion depending on what brands they wear, even if they aint aware of it(hello capitalism)
For example, making a Tomboy avatar, you can amplify the Tomboyism of it using brand logos associated with that character you are trying to create.
Having urban or street brands like Vans, Circa or similar on your avatar will amplify that image, as that is what you associate those brands with.
Having something like LV, YSL or similar would clash with a Tomboy avatar, but amplify the feel of a high class avatar. Or a small Armani logo can deeply amplify that suit you are wearing. So yes, brands can be used to amplify an image of what you create.
In case of the TDA's I guess it's the same thing. Supreme probably holds some for of value to them or something. It's all in the eyes of the beholder. And if you recognize the brands, you arenot immune.

The autists have their rigs built and VR makes it less immersive, not to mention the resolution and no ability to use your notes.

Body proportions, shading style for the skin and hair and eyes (no outlines, smooth ramp or unlit), almost obligatory animal ears. Neos has better support for advanced tech, but is let down by bad UI/UX and a furry infestation, if that puts you off.

I just got my Quest today and I've been playing Half Life Alyx through oculus link using a switch pro controller's charging cable. I'm completely blown away, I am still in awe at the experience.

I have a few questions though.
-How the FUCK do I get the Quest to sit comfortably on my face? No matter what I do it keeps dragging down and the whole image goes blurry when that happens.

-Is it normal for VR games to be so blurry when looking at objects in the distance? I don't mind it if it's normal, I just want to make sure I'm not doing something wrong.

-Finally, what's a good long USB cable I can use for room-scale VR with the quest?

Blurry, or pixelated? Because yes, resolution is low. Think about it, this is roughly the resolution of half of a 4k display (2k?) stretched around your entire field of view, it's like looking at 300 inch display from a meter away. So, of course there's not enough detail to accurately show things far away.

If it's blurry though, it might be your eyesight. I know at least one person who can barely read things in VR due to that.

Not quick solution - buy a VRCover strap, use a Deluxe Audio Strap, look up other mods.

It's still the same 'hide behind low cover and blindfire until the hail of bullets slows enough that you can finally peek your head out'. A deciding factor for many new players is finding an avatar that resonates well with "who they are."
The problem is the only decently made male avatars are very specific in what they represent.
What I mean by that is male avatars are usually just ripped models from games and such.
You're going to be playing as Solid Snake, Raziel or Kane, Dante or Vergil or Megaman or some other very specific character.

When it comes to female avatars there's so many out there people can find ones that are each unique in their own way.
The "Run of the mill" male avatar is incredibly limited. Wolf boy, ripped body with soft anime face, or some variation of that.
There's no creativity in original male avatars.
