Found an actual free open source steamvr desktop overlay. It's better than the default steamvr desktop window, since you can actually move the windows around and attach them to your controller and stuff. And the keyboard has working modifier keys.

It worse than XSOverlay or OVRToolkit, which both have a nice wrist display with clock and battery and can drag around multiple floating windows, while desktopPlus can only do one. But hey, it's free.

I like it when people put clear effort in the way they are perceived in VR, whether or not that appearance is particularly tasteful. What does an Index give you? 16. You'd need to be watching SD content at 480p on that same monitor, again, with zero post processing, to get as low as 18 PPD.

Turning on your primary hand thumb makes no sense, because you need it for other critical features like dropping out magazines. Index Controllers apart from the weird trigger are a bit more consistent for handguns, and don't stick out as much as wands so they make reloading guns (especially revolvers) much easier. Vive wands feel more stable with two-handed guns, though, and they're great for stocks if you feel like doing long-range sniping.

Unity doesn't like small bones for whatever reason. There isn't a standardised format for 3d modeling anyway so each program usually has its own favourite and ways of dealing with things.

Kplug, the major mod for Koikatsu, has just adopted VR support. It was possible to combine it with an unofficial VR mod but you had to use the keyboard for many things and some things were almost impossible to do with the pointer.

If you mean physically simulated objects, you can use rigidbodies and configurable joints. It's pretty confusing, but https://wirewhiz.com/the-complete-guide-to-unitys-configurable-joints/ is a decent guide. Don't go overboard though, rigidbodies are kind of expensive, having more than 1 puts you to medium, more than 8 is very poor in the ranking system.

It's pretty easy to pirate on all of them, but sideloading on Quest is probably slightly harder than PCVR piracy.

If you mean full standalone stuff like the Quest, it's fine for what it is, but it's not as good as PCVR. You can hook it up to a PC with Link or Virtual Desktop/ALVR and use it like a regular headset too though.
