Substance painter is very powerful for real time rendered painting onto UV's I would highly recommend it. I personally didn't get on well attempting with blender it just felt too clunky to me. Photoshop/gimp etc is fine enough if you're just doing something simple and straight forward and you know how your UV's are placed

You might get lucky and they line up well enough you can just export the UV map and use that in photoshop or gimp to paint. Yep, the blue slime pic is outdated, made it on monday or so, now I have a far better version with a few flavor variations.

Unfortunately Poiyomi's doesn't have vertex modulation to make it look like wobbly slime as in the pic, at least as far as I can tell.

The real protip is to enable UV distortion instead of using scrolling normal maps to get the moving liquid look, see pic related for a shitty compressed gif that sorta shows why it's better.

Hey, guys. Been awhile. I'm the guy making that VR Sonic game. Development's going great. I am, however, running into a bit of a conceptual problem.
See, I want to support all SteamVR-compatible VR headsets, but one of my main moves is the "Gear Shift" move which requires players to mimic Sonic's signature running style by putting their arms out behind them.
This works great on the Vive, which is my development headset, but I've been testing it on other headsets that utilize inside-out tracking. As you can imagine, a gesture that requires players to have their controllers behind them for an extended period can lead to issues for inside-out headsets.

What's a fitting gesture that I could make as a secondary input that wouldn't upset the WMR/RiftS headsets? Any ideas?

Does having the controllers behind you for that long really cause problems on the other inside-out headsets? I don't have one to test, but I would imagine that on those headsets when you put your hands back behind your back, the dead-reckoning tracking would still work to show that the controllers are still somewhere behind you for a few seconds, then the controllers would freeze in place when tracking is lost, with only rotation data coming from the IMU. So as long as they're somewhere back there, your detection logic would still work fine, until you have to recognize another gesture. If there's no other gesture that requires positional tracking back there, needing to move your controllers back into the inside-out FOV for that seems like it'd be acceptable.

So, yes, the hands do stay locked behind the player, so in short, straight bursts the move works fine.
The problem arises when the player turns while in Gear Shift mode. Turning is performed by physically turning to face a new direction. Since the hands aren't being tracked while turning, the angle between the head and the hands is broken and the move is canceled.

'Realistic' shaders on anime models was a mistake. It always looks like plastic, too shiny, dusted with soot, or otherwise the wrong material entirely. The one on the right is a proper game rip so the clothing has the original textures and it looks noticeably higher quality regardless of shader.

Blender's toolkit for texture painting is pure shit so I dropped to Krita.
Eye swapping helped reduce the cartooniness by a bit. Anything you'd still change to make it more tolerable to the eyes? More gradations to the facial texture and complexity could go miles I think.

The hardest part would be the rigging. You might be able to get away with Mixamo for that, but a recent Cats tool update added a decent base skeleton if you want to have your go at posing it and using Blender's rig tools.

Move the skeleton bones around in edit mode so it matches what you've made, then in object mode select your mesh, then select the armature separately, and use the "Ctrl+P" shortcut, then click on "With Automatic Weights" from the dropdown menu.

A position constraint to your hips would work. You can set it to lock to the Y axis only so only the bouncing motion is constrainted.
