Can anyone explain emmvrc to me?

I'm using virtual desktop as a monitor replacement. Some people only use VD as their only monitor and have 3 monitors virtually, which I have working. Thing is though, it's painful to look left and right, not even curving the displays helps. I've messed with portrait/landscape, square resolutions, multi-monitor windows positioning (Like a triangle shape, up and down, staggered). Nothing feels right and text eligibility is very difficult to get right (using samsung odyssey) How the fuck to make this work?

No, it isn't. You can literally put the specs into a PPD calculator right now, and you'll realise that it's going to be hitting 20 PPD at best. An average 1080p screen at a sensible viewing distance is a minimum of 40, and even that is an extremely low PPD. 80+ is when you get into "acceptable" territory, with 100+ being better if you wear glasses.

there's basically two routes for FBT- vive trackers and kinect. Kinect sucks bad and nobody sticks with it for long. Vive trackers can be used with any pc headset that works in steam vr, but they also require steam vr basestations.

You have an index, so you already have basestations. Buy 3x vive trackers and make sure you've got 3 spare usb ports for the dongles and that's all it, you've got fbt. Attach them onto some old shoes/belt, maybe buy some small usb powerbanks if you plan to use them for more than 3 hours.

If you're buying used trackers for some reason, make sure you get the V2 trackers (blue triangle) because the V1 trackers don't work with V2 (index) basestations.

The vive controllers are heavy and have an odd weight distribution. The cv1s are really light even with the battery, and had a good center of gravity right in the palm. The index controllers are lighter than vive but still quite a bit heavier than CV1s. I use them because I have to. I think the tracking loss due to batteries disconnecting was a meme, though maybe I never got good enough for those velocities before I switched to index. I can only play at 300pp level or so, so I'm not that high level.

Janky is inaccurate - once it's calibrated, it should be identical to non-hybrid... until your playspaces get nudged slightly out of alignment (your headset playspace and your FBT playspaces are separate and require calibrating via a third party tool to align them). Rift CV1, T300 with G27 pedals and G27 h-shifter. Sitting on office chair, put some crap under pedals to get them higher.
as i write it, i begin to realize that everything i have is broken in some way. rift cable broke, i have it soldered but it looks horrible and wires are out, t300 rotation limiter is slightly damaged and it's not calibrated correctly, so i always have to manually turn wheel all the way to the side after failed calibration to start using it. god damnit
