I have a new system with the Ryzen 3700X and RTX 3080. Is it a good time now to get into VR? Always been interested in it for Assetto Corsa, Half Life, porn, finally moving my body (beat saber), later Flight Simulator and other fun games or apps.

Should I go with the Valve Index or wait for the HP Reverb G2 reviews? Though, I don't like HP in general and already read that tracking and fov is more important and better with the Index. Is the lower resolution of the index a problem? Thanks!

Index resolution is great and outside-in lighthouse tracking unlocks the potential for trackers should you ever want them.
The only issue people have with Index is the fact that the controllers will almost certainly break within a year of heavy use so you gotta hope you're still within your warranty to replace them.

G2 looks like it'll be really nice for sims since the higher resolution makes things a lot clearer and I don't think the fov difference is that big. Index still looks fine in AC though.
Index tracking and controllers are better for non sim stuff, so it really depends on what you're going to spend the most time in.

Command Strips are fucking magical, properly applied they hold a fucktonne of weight for their size and they come off again with minimal damage to the wall/paint. Good shit.

When I had my three camera CV1 setup, I used command strips to hold the cameras up in the corners and they stayed there solidly until I finally took them down when I replaced the CV1, which only happened recently.

Make sure you use "Real" ones and get them oversized since the lighthouse will vibrate, do that and you won't have any worries I fucking promise you.
My fucking curtain rail is held up with two tiny command strips and it's been that way for years since I can't be fucked to fix it after I tripped and ripped the screws out of the wall.

Can't think of many free games that are good - Google Earth gets mentioned but might be a bit simplistic. There's also some VR mods and modes for existing flatshit games you might own. Also, Superhot VR and I Expect You To Die are really great games to start out with if you can find them cheap or don't mind pirating since they're both pretty short. Neither one requires any artificial locomotion, so they're pretty good for beginners.

I found it relatively easy to get into free loco, though I think that was because of irl hobbies. I found it very natural to progress from games with little movement like beatsaber, to games with some movement like H3VR, to games with full loco like Pavlov. Eh, I like the way hyperdash plays. The fact that the teleport is both physical (you can still shoot people as they hop) and on a limited recharge makes it feel like an actual mechanic instead of a motion sickness crutch like in HL:A. Only things truly lacking about Neos is it's networking support for instances with large numbers of users and it's lacking 3D creation stuff, which you'd mostly just do in Blender anyway.
Stuff in Neos is encrypted to a unique filetype, so whilst you can import/export to and from your computer a majority of file types (support is fairly well documented), if you choose to set protection on something you've made to your user ID, that shit isn't going anywhere.

I had this problem with a cloned model that stood next to mine. Depends on what you want out of it. I'd recommend parented to the avatar root rather than a bone though because that won't inherit rotation but it will turn with your head direction so if it starts outside of your view you'll never be able to turn and look at it.

What are you even trying to make? If it's like a fairy that follows you, you could have it on a dynamic bone chain with the object fully weighted to the last bone. Then just play with dynbone settings and curves so that the chain has no elasticity and the final bone with the object on it is always pointing down so it's oriented right.

Spiders are semi broken in Avatars 3.0, where the whole spider rotates if you say bend forward in FBT as it follows your hip movement. Or if you crouch in 3 point.
Pic related is the rig of the spider. Highlighted armature is for fullfilling the VRC IK requirement, rest is tacked on as siblings to the VRC skeleton in armature.
i.e whole spider is rotating upwards, been playing with constraints yo fix it but it fucks up the IK in many cases.
Gonna try with Final IK grounders to make it stay put today maybe. Else I just accept that Avatars 3.0 is jank for spiders.
It's not a big issue as long as you stand straight desu, but annoying still.

Can confirm the cheapo Honor 3 router with Wifi6 improves Quest 2 streaming significantly.
I set it up as an access point to my existing router (which unfortunately I have to use since it has the modem built into it) and my WiFi speed shot up from 886Mbps to 1200Mbps and my latency dropped by a whole 10ms overall. (20ms on desktop and 30-35 in VR on AMD hardware)
Very impressed with something that cost me only £50.
(I mean I will buy a better router eventually and shove this one upstairs as a secondary)
