The reason that my 2018 lobbies died eventually is because pavlov has not substantially changed since 2018. We all have hundreds of hours in it, haven played every decent map at least a hundred times, and the game is just stale. We played nightly for many months, people can only stay interested in a game for so long. Everyone has fond memories of it, and no one is to blame but Dave for his slow development cycle.
The reason that the large Friday lobbies died also can't be attributed to a single individual. In my opinion, the NA pavlov community is split in two, people who want to sweat and try hard at the game, and people who want to just fuck around. The funsies group seethes at the sweaties, and the sweaties get bored on the random weird maps that the funsies always want to play. I like to play sweaty, and playing halo zombies or minecraft pve zombies bored me to tears.
Once again I view this a sa problem with external causes - the lack of vrfps games. I think a lot of people don't really want to play a sweaty Counterstrike VR and actually want to play a different game, but pavlov is all that's available so they show up to the lobbies anyway.

All that said, I do think Cleet has a slow campy style that makes everyone else miserable. He's focused solely on his k/d ratio rather than objectives, and he does stall out a lot of rounds that would otherwise end quickly because he's camping trying to pick up kills. I think it's pointless to bully him for this, though, as he will not change and he'll just resent you for criticizing him. Early on when he started joining my 2018 pavlov lobbies, I tried to critique his playstyle to bring him more into line with everyone else and it just ended with him disliking me. I think that he's entitled to play the way he wants to play without having people hate on him, but I also think that people who want to play faster pavlov are within their rights organizing their own games.

I am the one defending him. He isn't faultless. He plays Pavlov in a uniquely poor way that extends rounds to the time limit constantly. I don't know if it's intentional or he has the worst gamesense of all time, but he has explicitly stated he bought the RDS+AWP (when it killed in one shot) to get Yuru to quit the lobby once. He used to post Chuuni shit and manifestos all the time about overthrowing /vrg/ but he stopped that after he took a long break (in-which NA pavlov was not resumed). I'd like if there was a more spatial way to browse worlds in e.g. vrchat, where instead of a menu you could walk through hallways laid out by upload date, or when you searched for term, a dynamically constructed hallway would appear, and you could walk through it with friends. I don't think it had to come to this. I used to have a similar problem where I'd end up as the last player alive all the time and have no idea how to proceed without simply feeding the enemies another kill. I think it frustrated people that the clutch was always up to me and I'd never manage it. I eventually got around it by staying with the bulk of the team, even if it meant dying early with them. I used an alt account where I didn't have the pressure to maintain any reputation (unlikely anyone cares anyway) so I could try out different things even if I went 0:10 by doing so and learned a lot more about the game to the point that I'm not helpless if the last alive. Comparing with a real city you can compare the "public space" (streets, squares, parks) to this metaverse city, and the private spaces (company buildings, shops, houses) to the VR rooms.
Why do we use the public space?
- Duh, because you can't go from your home to anywhere else without going through public space (except in rare cases)
- Because there's stuff that isn't available anywhere else, like parks
- Because there's activities like public concerts, festival, parades
- Because you want to walk around in the city or just be with friends in a public space

If we go back to a metaverse city, for point 1, teleportation is possible, so you don't need to use public space. It could be possible to add an artificial constraint, but I doubt it would be sustainable: if you could teleport to a shop instead of walking/driving to it, you would probably do it.
For point 2, parks are a rare resource because real estate is a rare resource in boring euclidean meatspace, this won't be the case in a metaverse. You can have a private park or whatever else in your VR home, the only interest of public parks would be other users.
More or less the same thing for point 3. If there's an event, it may be streamed so you don't need to be there "in avatar". What's interesting in a concert is seeing the performers in person (kinda dubious for VR) and other people.
Point 4 is maybe the most interesting use case, because it doesn't depend on re-adding physical constraint on virtual space. But they also require a critical mass of user: I can imagine a Time square-like VR space where companies would buy "real" estate to put shops/ads/etc, and just walking around would be cool, or chilling like in front of Ironforge bank. But there need to be enough people passing by so that paying for this "real" estate/ads would be profitable. In a real city, most people passing by would be because of point 1, 2, 3

CPU has to package all that stuff into a collection of data called a drawcall that gets sent to the gpu to render. CPU is singlethreaded so it all goes in a conga line one by one to the gpu every frame. The more skinned meshes the more drawcalls need to be made and sent to the gpu. Also a skinnedmesh is it's own thing that needs to be calculated. Every frame the skinnedmesh is deformed by the armature bones and the resulting new position of the vertexes are sent to the gpu. Assumption is doing it all in one skinned mesh is more efficient than doing it in multiple.

I'd say horror Jeff episode was great. Allowing player to trip things over, forcing him to gently maneuver around to avoid making noises, those luring mechanics, it all combined up into a very interesting, exciting, and fun level. That's around where Alyx peaks, and it's one level that's (i think) being universally loved.

I agree it wasn't all that 10/10 though. As a flatscreen game, it would probably be rated as a shorter (yet more diverse) HL2EP1, with review ratings circling around 8-9/10. Not bad at all, not great either.

For anyone who has just got into vox I would recommend a couple of quality of life changes in the games settings. I would reduce grip thresholds for the cockpit so you don't get "sticky hands" when trying to let go. I would also heavily recommend changing the scopes setting from joystick to Headset controlled and reducing the sensitivity down.

Other general tips would be, stay with your team mates, vox is very punishing if you're caught by yourself, and don't forget to toot your mech horn and shitpost over the radio, these ones are very important

The dynamic ammo spawns only annoyed me since I realized it halfway through the game after rarely seeing shotgun ammo, to then blow through my stash of it on the next encounter, to then be rained in shotgun ammo in the next interlude.

It's almost impossible to get melee kills with the drill. It's not good enough to just land on the enemy, the drill also has to align with the torso properly to kill them or you just get hit markers.

The new utility of the to refuel instantly is a good addition though. You can just negate hit with the correct ability and can't really fly but have to hop around and consider momentum a lot because of how the legs work. Plays very uniquely.

They aren't just dynamic based on what you need. When I fought the lightning dog thing I ran out of pistol ammo repeatedly and it would spawn at the opposite side of the room where I had just been. This completely ruined the illusion to me but of course it was necessary since otherwise I wouldn't have been able to kill it. I wouldn't have been so bothered if it just changed what was spawned ahead of you but not even needing to worry that you might ever run out of ammo because the game will literally spawn it at your feet is a baffling decision in something trying for a semi-survival-horror vibe.
