this is on 'low' graphics settings, but honestly the low poly enemy models, the funny ragdolls, the stupid AI, and the wilhelm scream really all add to the janky soul of it all. At least on the difficulty we played at it's almost impossible to die, you never run out of ammo, so you can just roam around ragdolling dudes with a laser shotgun.

Definitely not a "good" game by any means, and we hit a few game-breaking bugs and voice chat never worked in game. The mindless shootin still works well enough to cross some threshold of 'fun' though, with friends. If you got the game in the humble bundle, worth trying out coop for a bit, but not worth buying alone for sure. No idea how alive the PvP is, probably is dead.

well the stuck stick issue could theoretically be resolved rather easily when that happens. the stick gets stuck because of some internal parts shifting due to adhesive loosening, perhaps from the trigger being pulled, and if the whole shitbang gets pushed up even a millimeter inside the case, the result is the stick starts to get friction on the bottom of the button faceplate. the solution could be as simple as shaving the stick's base part down a little, or replacing the stick with a thinner one. i was honestly considering just pulling the faceplate up a little with a guitar pick or flathead.

stick drifting issue looks like a full-on proper gulag rape in the ass repair. you have to replace the whole switch with a similar one you have to source yourself and solder a new one in. and the only video i found on it is entirely in russian.

I've never used substance painter before so I don't know what mesh maps are exactly, but you can bake normals and occlusion in blender directly if that's what you want.

As far as full as alternatives, there's armorpaint which is floss but they charge for access to the official builds so you'd have to compile it yourself for it to be free.

vrchat changed the way IK is calculated a few patches ago to prioritize fixing the avatar's head to your headset position (modulo the viewball height to your in-game height setting) instead of fixing your avatar's feet to the floor. If it's only half your avatars that float and the rest work fine it's possible that whatever armature hacks you or the avatar author used just happen to mess up the in the new system.

the armature proportions shouldn't be an issue if the viewball is set up correctly. Certainly if you're standing (your headset is above the floor at the height you put in the vrchat settings, and your playspace floor is calibrated correctly), then vrchat should scale the world so your avatar is also standing. However, there's also some sort of scaling that vrchat does to try to make it so your outstretched arms irl correspond to your avatar's armspan in T-pose; it does this with some multiplier to your height setting, but I don't know the exact formula.

I personally prefer sticking the viewball deep in the head anyway for body immersion, especially now that they fixed whatever caused your viewball to sink into your neck while lying down in FBT.

So apparently the z-axis does matter for the IK. I just straight up 0'd it out for a quick test (I tried on the bridge of the nose, between the eyes, slightly inside of the eyes), and saying fuckit with a 0-test actually fixed most of the issues.

Issues being head tilt lifting/lowering the torso, and feet not being planted. Sitting is still wonky where it either doesn't work, or doesn't track me for 5-8 seconds before snapping things into place, but it's better than it was.

I treat the stick drift issue as somewhat mitigated, since valve is really generous about advanced RMAs for that issue, though it is still annoying. The more intrinsic issues I have with the index controllers over the CV1 touch controllers is that they're just too big and heavy in comparison. The palm strap and finger tracking just doesn't feel immersive at all when you've got like 200g of weight and a big shaft on your hand, even when the finger tracking works reliably (which is usually doesn't). Also, hotswapping rechargeable AAs was really convenient compared to having to plug the controllers in to charge.

If I had a way to use the CV1 controllers with the index headset, I would. I don't miss them badly enough to switch back to the cv1 headset though, I just live with the pain.

Outside of squeaky trigger issues (which resolves itself with time as the rubber noise dampeners get unstuck/dislodged), the CV1 Touch controllers were basically the perfect VR controller. Really, the only thing I'd add to it (and the modern Touch controllers) is a removable ring design to better save itself from breaking, and also replacing the less expensive part of the controller.

I hated the grip at first compared to the button too, but once you adjust the grip strength in steamvr bindings to be less sensitive (especially in vrchat), it feels a lot better than the super sticky finger default and grows on you. I would prefer both though, a trigger, an explicit button you can press in, and some input of squeezing force on the shaft for grabbing things. An extra shoulder button above the trigger like gamepads would be nice too.

It's so bad they won't even give us a proper set of minimum specs. A 2080 and i7 9700K are recommended. For a game with unimpressive textures, completely static lighting and no pip scopes. PR even said 'dips and hitches' are to be expected on a fucking 2060.
No indication of any graphics options we can turn down other than resolution. So pretty much unplayable if you're too far below a 2080 because fuck lowering res below native.

Every time I check back on this game it's getting worse. Even Reddit aren't having any of it.

Holy shit. I just found out that one of the very few perks of VRC+ does not work. VRC+ gives you 4 rows of Favorite Avatars. I thought, great, I can use this to favorite my most used avatars of my own, put them all in the top favorites group so I don't have to scroll through all my avatars to find the ones I actually use.

Turns out you can't favorite your own avatars if they aren't public. So I might as well keep using emmVRC. It's unbelievable.
