WHAT: watch ALL the first episodes of all ~42 shows airing this season*. Using some ultra advanced technology, we can play 6 at a time, each on its own moveable screen with spatialized audio. We'll 4 sets of 6 shows tonight, and ~3 sets on Wednesday, in a random order.

WHY: to enjoy the spectacle, and to skim enough of the shows to figure out what to actually watch. It's a little less chaotic than you think thanks to the spatialized audio, and last season people tended to gravitate to just 1 or 2 shows in each set after a few minutes, with the audio in the background to alert you if something interesting is happening in another show.

I'm not sure if VR is my "thing" so I don't want to dump tons on it, but I think it'd be a fun addition to my flight simming, and the utility of being a standalone set to play other normie games. I've heard the FOV isn't great but I have a 63mm IPD so not sure if it'll be an issue.

It's fine for flight sims (on pc via link anyway, haven't tried running anything natively on the headset itself). Some games might not support motion controlls so you're gonna need to buy a hotas for the "proper" experience (or maybe you already have one). But VTOL is the best vr flight sim game and it has motion controls so there you go.

For VTOL I think going without a hotas might be better, although it's an exception (I'm not even sure you can play it with a hotas). It has cockpits filled with buttons and all of them actually function properly and can be interacted with via motion controls. You can also adjust your seat and the positions of certain controls to make them easier to reach or more comfortable, like adjusting the flight stick so that you can put your arm on the armrest when you use it.

i have it, the lag using virtual desktop isnt bad if you're doing things like pavlov and vrchat. When i play something like beatsaber i just play through the headset unlinked and it's pretty good. When i play sim racing and elite dangerous i have to be linked or it wont be able to keep up.
Virtual desktop goes about 1.35gbps if you're running it on your home router with everything else as long as your desktop is wired. 25 dollar link goes about 3.5gbps.
Some say Virtual desktop is better, but you need a wifi 6 router to get better speeds.

How do i get textures to show up in blender with an OBJ file? I imported the model and in the same folder it had an MTL file which is apparently the textures, but I have no idea how to apply this to the model in blender, I'm only used to working with standard textures in png format and such, no idea how OBJ/MTL mesh work

Maybe you could work on your cuddling technique. I have FBT but keeping it charged is hard to remember so usually I just use 3 point. People still headpat and cuddle me a lot.
What made a huge difference for me was not getting FBT, but working on making myself more huggable, softer looking dynamic bones, making more expressions. It's very good to provide feedback to person headpatting you. The way I do it is first try to get them hooked so I agressively nuzzle against their hand. If they change petting spot by themselves, that's good, got them, continue nuzzling against the new spot. If they keep on petting same spot for too long, try to gently encourage them. For example moving your head slowly so that your chin is under their hand is a good move. It's very visible and won't be mistaken for a random movement.
If you can naturally take it from here, that's perfect.
If you can't, then just remember this basic gameplan and slowly work on building on top of it. I'm sure you can learn how to be better at it and enjoy more headpats! Let's all work towards a softer and comfier atmosphere.

A 3d scan with photogrammetry will turn out lumpy no matter how good a job you do, so if you want full photorealism you'll have to do some custom modeling. As an index owner since the start, I can say the index is fantastic but has some serious flaws that can be a dealbreaker. The joysticks will wear out eventually no matter how careful you are with them due to a design flaw, and the cable will fail over time as well even with "perfect" storage and usage.It'll fail even faster if you break the plastic tab holding it on (something I found out the hardway). I've had to RMA due to that plastic tab breaking and it killing two wires.

Valve support has been helpful but now that the warranty periods are over for people who got it earlier, there's like 2 or 3 people claiming that valve isn't even offering repairs at a cost for things that break. I've heard that they'll let you buy a new wire, but I can't confirm any of this. It's a harrowing experience, and honestly the Vive I've gotten from launch had none of these issues and HTC sold replacement wires so you could stock up on them. Right now I'm up shit creek because my left controller's joystick is starting to drift and I'm far beyond the warranty period so the only way to replace it when it does break is to beg valve for some mercy, fork up ~$300 for a new set of controllers or try to fix it myself. Even then no matter what option I take I'm going to be at square one again whenever those joysticks wear out.
