Started fooling around with Blender's grease pencil (need 2.9+ for it to be good, update your fucking programs) to make a 2D avatar like anon suggested about a week ago.
Not too difficult to trace the contours of your model, and you can get pretty decent results if you apply noise and multiple strokes modifiers to the grease pencil.

Hybrid setups are a bit awkward. You need buy the trackers and basestations in order to do it. You need to do a quick calibration each time you use the trackers. I've only tried it with a rift cv1 which was a bit annoying (mostly from controllers blocking the hip tracker and sending it flying off somewhere in game). It's apparently worse on inside out tracking headsets (cameras on the headset for tracking position of itself and controllers instead of standalone cameras / base stations). I think that's down to the headset's calibrated playspace shifting slightly but not sure.
