Day 0: Today i start my multi-day VR adventure. From about 30 minutes ago to plus 72 hours of VR. After planning and preparing for this day for a bit, I feel ready to tackle this challenge. I've got food, batteries, water, entertainment. I'm doing this with a wireless vive but I have a 12v cable for sleeping or really long sessions. Things that im worried about are things like sleeping. I've havent gotten the best sleep recently, but i did bring sleeping pills. Im also worried about swapping batteries on the headset. sometimes it works, sometimes it crashes my system just like moments ago. I do use the camera on the vive which makes it less of a guessing game for where shit is in my room. My bathroom is too far from my room. Inorder to keep immersion, ill try keeping my eyes shut during bathroom breaks. After that eating sleeping and everything else will be done in VR. See you in the metaverse anons.

Modular synthesis in VR with Synthspace

It's cool, though synthspace is still pretty barebones right now; only 40 very basic modules, a few weird omissions (no high pass?), but it's modular so you can in theory just make everything yourself.

There's also SynthVR which looks like it has a lot more modules implemented. I'll probably give it a try too. I do kind of like the realistic look synthspace over SynthVR low-poly computer aesthetic though.

Exa is essentially a customizable percussion instrument in VR. I like it quite a bit because you can swing through all the notes, which feels way better in VR than trying to pull back from a drum without a real bounce. Here's a few videos with I did trying to play like that:

Sadly EXA's development is dead, so no more updates. It's quite functional as is though, and besides its (basic) sampling and sequencing ability (you can do live looping with yourself), you can also get the MIDI out into a regular daw.

It's really close to being good. Certainly it's already more satisfying to drag neon cables around and twist knobs in VR than use, say, VCV rack, and the whole spaghetti nest and blinkenlights is an important part of modular synthesis aesthetics. Needs a lot more modules though, and basic things like actual named saves, copy/paste racks, undo/redo, route audio in and out of an actual DAW. Would also be really nice if I could actually run synthspace and exa at the same time, so you could have nice instrument inputs plus nice synth sounds.
