For example, there's no motion controls and an engine limitation means that the video for both eyes can't be rendered at the same time which makes it super nauseating on foot. I played through the vader immortal dojos. The first one didn't let you use force powers, so it was all fencing. I liked it because it gave my legs a mild workout. The levels in the 2nd and 3rd dojos were more like just mad rushes throwing things and using the blasters for some levels. Not much of a workout for the legs.

I miss old vrchat when we had polygon limits, vrchat is ruined with everyone fucking going over the 70k now. Can someone remake vrchat and never up the polygon limit please? You win up with a lobby of 40 people all with unoptimized avatars because they wanna be the coolest in the pug. I used to be in the 70k is not enough camp, but now I find it quite good. 70k is enough when it comes to polys, and the other limits are also pretty good. And not having hard limits and a safety system don't mess with user avatar creativity.

I'd be having such an amazing conversation and then bam the conversation stops because someone comes in with another unoptimized avatar and makes the person im talking to just crash completely. The game has been gradually receiving optimisation updates for years and people don't seem to remember how bad it actually was. There were times when our bigger events required people to use generic rig 2d cutouts as avatars.

You're right, it was always worse performance wise.
But people back then were more competent avatar creators and optimised their avatars. These days people are babied into using either Booth avatars or TDA style avatars which are made to be customisable without having to leave Unity so have a lot of meshes that can be toggled and have no regard to dynamic bone counts. This is the real impact in performance and no amount of VRC performance update scan solve that. Luckily they provided tools to fix this in the safety system.
