Question regarding custom gestures for those using Index controllers. Also excuse the wall of text

I set up a gesture that's bound to my left hand's "fist" gesture that basically moves my cat girl's tail in a specific direction. It works and is set up correctly (seemingly?) but the thing is on my index controller the gesture only triggers when I do a "fist" motion (all my fingers on the sensors) and I pull down on the trigger on the back of the controller as well, which is correct so far...however when I pull down on the trigger all the way it cancels the gesture.

Like, in order for the gesture to actually work I have to only "half press" the trigger button down when doing the fist gesture. If I press it all the way down it undoes the gesture. I have no idea what to make of this and I assume this is an index controller specific thing. It's pretty annoying to have to balance my finger on the trigger halfway since it resets the gesture if I press it or let go of it too lightly. Anyone know of this wacky shit and how to fix it? I was thinking of just giving up and binding the gesture to "point" since it doesn't rely on the gesture, but that's not really fixing the problem it's just giving up solving it and I want to use the fist gesture for it anyway
